It is taking some getting used to..... my first game I played in 3 years I was getting blown out by like 20 by Konex(Kobe) but after Bs'in with buttons I got a little better and acme back and beat Kobe, err I mean the Lakers at the buzzer ... I enjoyed the game, something I havent done with Nba games in a while... I will see how the season goes....

:lol

Everyone is beating Konex.

Yea I noticed I was the only one he beat.

And he only beat me because of most of the extreme bullshit he was pulling off with Kobe.Dunking over 2 dudes from way out, changing his shot in midair about 3 times and then Kobe threw it in with his back turned at about the free throw line,I mean he was literally not facing the goal, looked like a HORSE shot, lmao!

Wow,can't believe you guys aren't digging Live,it just flows alot better than ESPN to me...I like both though.

I AM digging Live. But I'm broke as hell and I can't afford to have 2 really good basketball games. Since Live will get me some cash back, it's gotta go back. That was another reason :lol

I suck at sport games...I should retire.

sorry if this is a stupid question, but what the fuck is ISOMOTION? is there anything special to this other than regular (Slow ass) dribble moves?? there is one drill in 24/7 in the isomotion section that says steal with the Y (take charge) button.... am I missing something, oh and 24/7 is alot of fun, only if 4 people from different XCOX's could play 21 rough

Having spent more time with 2k5, I'm starting to like it. Yesterday I was having problems with my players sticking to other players, but with a little experimentation I think I've got it sorted out. Apparently pulling the turbo button was causing unwanted animations and foiling my guards' attempts to get by their defenders. Without turbo I've been able to (use crossover to) get around my defender, get separation on picks, and create mismatches, all with very little player stickiness. Crossovers are still way too slow IMO, but they do work better than I though. If the crossover fails the player's energy bar flashes to indicate that the defender was ready.

I've also changed to use more offensive sets instead of run-and-gun, and it's paying off. Some plays look similar to actual basketball; for example TP running a pick with TD and pulling up for a quick jumper, or TP floating a tear drop over two 7-footers, or TD kicking out to the open man. Others look broken but work anyway, but that's kind of expected in videogame BBall.

On defense I've been trying the double team button. One time I caught Okur with the ball, trapped him on the baseline, and forced him into a bad pass. The animation was very convincing. Another time I tried it with Arroyo but he quickly found the open man and made me pay. Pretty cool IMO.

My biggest complaint about 2k5 now is the turnovers, which are way too frequent. It's extremely easy to lose the ball after a rebound while trying to pass to the PG. Happens to the CPU a lot too. Many layups have resulted in out-of-bounds calls because the player travels too close to the baseline. The AI gets a few steals on both sides during the course of a game. All of these TOs add up to a ridiculous number. Hopefully there's a slider for this; haven't checked yet.

I got ESPN(I hate change). I love the crowds. It really feels like you're playing a arena. I got use to the Broadcast Cam from last year and I can't go back to the 2k cam. So far my team(Spurs) haven't lost a game.

I must bump this thread to say that ESPN's freethrow shooting in this game sucks. Hitting a free throw with my created guy in 24/7 mode is near impossible :(

Crap, I picked up ESPN, but the game doesn't come with any XBL trial months! Snap.

Edit: Ok, I just played a couple of games, and here are my early impressions:

1. The game is a bit sluggish, the flow takes a bit of getting used to. Driving feels especially awkward at the moment, and crossovers appear to be completely worthless. I like the hop step, it's not always effective, but useful to dish out at proper moments.

2. Having to press the white button for icon passing is a huge pain in the ass.

3. The game is shiny. Players look like they've been put under a high-powered buffing machine, and the effect just looks awful from standard camera distance (regardless of view). Also, they all appear to suffer from short necks/oversized heads. The courts look great, though.

4. Free throw shooting didn't seem any more awkward than it was last year. It may be easier this year, because I managed to hit one with a sub-par shooter when the right slider wasn't properly aligned.

Right now I'm sort of regretting my purchase, but I'll give it some more burn. I bought a 2-month XBL trial key off eBay earlier, I think I'll be getting it by e-mail sometime later today. I'm up for a few games if anyone wants to play.

regreting your purchase? $20 is nothing in gaming. I got espn yesterday, and only had time to play one game. I do like the game, but it doesn't seem very different at all from any other 2k basketball title.

Wow you bought one? :P I have like 6 lying around, lol!

The game is very different than any 2K basketball game I've ever played Drey, the momentum and being able to shoot leaners/fadeaways properly are pretty big changes. Not too mention the hop step and new downlow moves.

Thoughts...

Controls... Damn. Nothing I got used to doing last year works anymore. I can't back down at will anymore even though I'm holding the the 'back down' button. Seems to be position specific. I used to like to run the ball up court, and feather the back down button to mix it up w/ my crossovers. Works nothing like that now.

Game Speed... I can't stand it at the default speed. I put it to fast and it's tolerable.

Camera... There doesn't seem to be a 'free' camera option that would allow me to place the camera anywhere like in 2K3, but what's there is an improvement... But why the fuck can I not change the camera while playing street ball!!!?/1 Oooooooh that pisses me off. Hopefully it's unlockable since the camera options are just greyed out.

I love the front end, even more than NFL2K5.

Maybe i just haven't played the new one enough.. I'll try it out more this weekend and probably find a lot more of these differences. I loved 2k3. I played the hell out of that game. I got 2k4 but sold it soon after. I'll have to spend more time with it to creat a true impression.

Played some of Live last night. Visually, this game pisses all over ESPN. The animations are fantastic! They're so fluid and natural, nothing like ESPN's sluggish, awkward style. Default speed is way too fast, but you can slow it down with a slider. I didn't play the previous Live games very much, so I'm not very good with the freestyle controls at the moment, but there seems to be a lot you can do with it. I'll need to play this game more to form a better opinion, but I think I'll be spending more time playing this than ESPN.

I was wondering if anyone has the PS2 version of Live? There's noticeable slow-down in the Xbox version for some reason. It seems pretty random, and while it doesn't take away from the game it's still distracting.

More ESPN impressions:

Pros

- Online play on XBL is great

- Once you get used to it, momentum works pretty well

Cons

- Layups and dunks are too slow, if that makes any sense. Players get off the ground way too slowly on a layup or dunk attempt, effectively eliminating any advantage earned by blowing by a player. Defensive players can usually recover (or help comes) quick enough to block/disturb the shot.

- Layup animations suck and are stupid. Too many times I've seen players go for a reverse INTO TRAFFIC when they had the open bucket right by the hoop. The reverse layup animation seems to occur more often than any other layup animation, too. Retarded.

EA's crap ass servers all but ruin Live for me...I've yet to get a non laggy game, while ESPN's are perfect.

But I played some random dude in Live yesterday and he did some of the most biggest BS I've ever seen.He would get Wade and just starting doing spin moves until he got to the goal where he dunked it every time, nothing I could do.

Both games have pretty major gameplay flaws,IMO.

oh yes...pissed me off as well....and i am doubtful about "unlocking" more camera views for street....

god does that shit suck....

I was playing Takuan, somehow Jason Williams had 4 blocks on my big guys in the paint because of the retarded layup animation :lol

I've definitely found more things to dislike about ESPN but good god LIVE is ugly. I don't understand this at all.

I think it's a matter of personal preference. Most of ESPN's faces look fucked up to me depending on the angle, and I've always hated the sweat filter. Jersey & shorts look spectacular, though, as do the courts themselves. I don't think ESPN can hold a candle to NBA Live when it comes to animation. Layups, dunks, and crossovers all look better. Jumpshots look good, but there's more variation in ESPN's J animation (the step-up jumper looks particularly great).

:lol DMczaf. That game was entertaining, to say the least. You got the win, so you should be happy. :p

What is 24/7 mode?
You create a player and build up his traits through a variety of drills. For example, the mid-range drill challenges you to make a certain number of midrange jumpshots on a defender, and if you complete the drill successfully your midrange trait goes up. There's more to it, but I haven't really played much of the mode as it doesn't interest me. I'm all about regulation games.

Sure, but then the hopstep button goes somewhere wonky. I'm sure the PS2 controller is a lot more comfortable than the Xbox, maybe I'll use my adapter...
