Power Pro DS

Blackace

if you see me in a fight with a bear, don't help me fool, help the bear!
Let me say that this game rocks hard! graphicswise it looks pretty darn close to the PS2 games but it is yours to take on the road.

I have not played a power pro game since like 7, but this game takes place in High School. Your character that you create gets picked to become the team captain. You train your team and play games with the gaol to win the high school championship before you finish school in 2 years. The game is simple to play, hard to master (with all the training and randomness that goes into it) and very addictive. Been playing it more than Grandia III... Anyways tomorrow I will be getting Power Pro 13 the DS version sold me on it!

How does it look graphically?
How does it use the DS's features?
Any chance of it coming out here? I've always wanted to play a Power Pro title.

Eh... after this many Powerful Pro games I think it's safe to say it won't be coming stateside.

But then again, if they did bring it stateside it would be a monopoly in the genre. There are no other baseball games on the DS and oddly, no developer is making one for it.

:)

The two screens are used pretty well. Since it is a sim the top screen displays information while the touch screen is used to make choices with the touch pen or the dpad and buttons. The touch uses are pretty lame and the game was made pretty much to play without it; it seems. As for it coming states side...I doubt it.. I would just abnout bet anything that it won't too many Japanese culture things in it...and besides the fact that you have to pick your high school in Japan. Like I said about the graphics..they are nice! nothing that would put the die hard sports games to shame. but nice cartoony characters and a solid frame rate makes me happy

wow just like a PS2 game

:rolleyes

wow... what an insightful comment..

The PS2 games are not the leaders in the graphics department it is nice that they didn't skimp out on them and if YOU happen to like the PS2 games this is great... I happen to like what I have played before and am glad that they have not tried to make a more real looking game or have fooled with the look too much

Well it is debatable (those screen are pretty bad but they are the best I could find).

What isn't debatable is that the DS version really doesn't look like the PS2 game (2d vs 3d) and I am willing to bet if there was a GBA version of the game it would look identical to the DS version.

In screens, maybe, but I'll bet the DS framerate is much smoother.

have you played any of those games? or are you just talking about screen shots? I have not played the GC version and the latest one I have played of the PS is 8 I am about to get 13 tomorrow because the DS version got me hook on it.. Compared to the last on I played it looks very near...

simple question is the DS version 3d or 2d?

I have played the Ps2 version (7 I think) and I own some dam version of it for my Saturn and they are both 3d not 2d like the DS and SNES versions.

The 3D versions look like ass.

And this is the first thing to convince me that the DS's 2D abilities surpass the SNES's significantly.

Far and a way, the DS version looks the best of all four. So the nit-picking PS2 fanboys should probably sit this one out.

The SNES version looks better based on these screens. But then I'd guess you've never played the 3D versions if you want to make excuses for the DS one. That screencap doesn't really represent it that well.

Are there any other Japanese baseball titles coming for it? Does the PSP have any besides Powerful Pro?

The reason why I asked if you have played the game is because 80% of the game is played in a sim, as in you are not playing baseball games. Which is in 2D in all of the games. The DS fakes 3D quite in the baseball part of the game but no it is not in full 3D.

i don't think it's that big a deal, I think people should be able to see that the PP series has always taken a different tact with graphics than their counterparts. I assume the language barrier is pretty big in this one?

There a pretty good barrier but it is not as bad as the PS2 counter part which I just picked up... happy birthday to me.. But if you have some Japanese skills you can get through it. The Kanji level isn't too bad and all the words they use are standard High School words...

Looks like they're playing on a clay court. Is it cel-shaded?

I hope this makes it stateside in some form. Baseball games are perfect for handhelds.

I doubt it will come to the states as it is... it is a game about baseball in Japanese High Schools... Too many things that happen in Japanese culture do not happen in America culture it will be hard to bring over. I think it would do well.. but I don't think Konami will do it.

maybe we'll get a Mario Baseball for the DS. I'd prefer something a little more middle of the road sim/arcade wise, but that would be nice.

This is just the simulation spinoff series iirc (continued from GBA), but DS will also be getting the licensed Jikkyou regular series too. And that'll be online. :)
