Pre-Load size for NBA 2K23 on Xbox Series is over 150GB.

https://mp1st.com/news/nba-2k23-pre-load-on-xbox-series-is-live-weighs-over-a-whopping-150-gb
If you’re planning on buying the latest iteration of NBA 2K this year (NBA 2K23), you may want to be sure you have enough space, as the NBA 2K23 pre-load has officially gone live for Xbox Series owners, revealing that the title clocks in at a staggering 152GB.

For those who currently own an Xbox console, the pre-load for NBA 2K23 has gone live (via Xbox App), allowing you to download the game ahead of the release this week.

While that’s all good, what came to a surprise to many who started pre-loading was how big of a download the game is. To be precise, if you want to download NBA 2K23 ahead of a release, you’ll need 152.02GB of space available on your Xbox Series X|S.

It doesn’t appear that the pre-load for last-gen (Xbox One) is live yet, and PlayStation owners (PS4 & PS5) will have to wait until this Wednesday (September 7) in order to start pre-loading ahead of this Friday’s release.

The file size is expected to be slightly smaller on the PS5 version than the Xbox Series’, though most likely not as much given that NBA 2K22 was only 6GB less on the PS5 than the Xbox Series version.

In fact, in comparison to last year, NBA 2K23 requires an additional 35GB of space, going from 115Gb to 152GB on the Xbox Series.

For quick reference, here are the file sizes for each platform for last year’s version of NBA 2K.

NBA 2K22 File Sizes (Launch):

  • Xbox Series X|S : 115.56 GB
  • Xbox One : 84.3 GB
  • PS4 : 99.137 GB
  • PS5 : 109 GB
  • Switch : 45.2 GB
  • PC : 110 GB
That is certainly is decent leap in download size. In fact, this puts it up there for one of the biggest download sizes for a game on the platform yet.

Destiny 2, which is also considerably large, requires less than 100GB, while Apex Legends comes in just a little under 90GB on the platform.

Call of Duty Warzone, has seen some reduction in file size over the years, bringing it to around 110GB as of right now, depending on the platform.

That is, of course, if you don’t count the installation of Modern Warfare, which does bump that size to over 200GB.

So yeah, NBA 2K23 is definitely taking a huge chunk of storage space, and this isn’t even counting the title updates for the game, which, based on series history, have also been hefty downloads.

Either Xbox Series consoles have extra content and uncompressed assets or the game is unoptimized to heck.

That's over 1/4th of the onboard storage of the Series S itself, definitely not going to have space unless you haven't downloaded any games yet, might need to get a storage card if you don't already have one. Most likely players with a Series X are about to run out of space too.

I think that when we see more optimized and unoptimized current gen only software,, these 500Gb and 1TB onboard storage sizes won't be enough. You'd need maybe 2 at minimum 5 at Maximum for todays games. This is especially true for the Xbox Series consoles Game Pass subscribers.

I mean 115gb - XSX
109gb - PS5

For NBA2K22. Going by that example 23 would be around 140gb on PS5.

Most sports games dont come close to this size, so not sure what it is here. Also i dont know why games dont let you pick your language before installation, so games dont have to install 20 language files.

I'd love to see how they manage this ridiculous size. Seems more like a take 2 problem than a "sports game" problem.

Or how about zero commentary language packs?

I turn off play by play commenting when I play NHL.

When watching real sports on TV, the best feeds I've seen have zero play by play. 15 years ago CBC had a worker strike so NHL games had nobody working the pressbox. Somehow they got cameramen to still show the game. It was awesome! Turn up the volume and it's so much better to hear the players and sounds of the game.

Every once in a while some shady streaming site will have a feed with zero play by play too. It's like a zombie feed with just camera work. No studio analysts, play by play or other network TV stuff. No intermission show either where the armchair analysts go over the game. Sometimes the feed shows the half time or intermission show being done at the arena! You never see that on TV.

Are YOU going to read the thread, it says PS5 file size is unknown, but given the difference with 2K22 the PS5 version will likely be marginally smaller, definitely not some substantial difference

The question you're dodging is why would it be more on Series S than the PS4, if the audio was the reason for the large size. You guys have to read the original post that was quoted by NeonGhost (whi had no proof that was the reason btw.)

At the end of this gen then any pre order gets a physical storage with it for each game.

I am guessing commentary in 10 languages, you can't really cheap out on sound too much.

Onboard storage of Series S is 364gb.

This is shocking optimisation from EA. They don’t give a fuck.

NBA 2K is 2K Sports, but I'm sure optimization would be worse if NBA Live was still around. Actually too me a couple of minutes to remember what EA"s basketball game was called.

I wonder how much storage is dedicated towards the anger inducing unintentionally hilarious cringefest that is the story/career mode of these games.

The anger inducing comes from the heavily scripted on court gameplay (i.e your team would miss everything for 3 1/2 quarters of a game to set up your player to overcome a 70 point lead with 5 minutes left in the game. )

Because the PS4 is the last-gen version and the XSS is running the current-gen version at lower res. Just like madden and all the rest. 🤷‍♂️

Are these file sizes all confirmed?

As long as it's not over 320GB, I guess you can still make it work. Like what has already been said, they should make the base package as lean as possible and then you can download different languages etc., with maybe only English and Spanish included by default in the US, for example.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.

They already do that on PS5 with some games, can't remember which one but I have seen it.
But if go to the manage content content you'll see the languages that aren't installed

So I found the one terabyte Series X/S storage upgrade for $25 off in a Meijer today and pulled the trigger. SSD prices in general have come down to the point where it absolutely doesn't make sense to buy it for anything more than that. I saw it on Amazon for $220 and that is just a rip off. I'm assuming they aren't selling well at retail so hopefully you'll see more discounts on it at brick and mortar stores soon. I'm not one for cold storing games and then loading them onto the internal drive.

Install sizes are not going to decrease, especially if you're a AAA developer and you're not interested in refining your engine year over year for annual releases.

Multi-platform company fails to optimize their games for specific platforms? the culprit Take 2 and others Like Electronic Arts? They launched one version for the S and X? not surprised at all. Not sure why this is such a topic? Buy a half assed console, expect half assed storage space. X or bust man, S is for people who are willing to compromise. When a game gets to big it can't be installed at all on the S, please let me know.
Not sure I see the point of this, it's obvious, the answer is TAKE TWO and the same SKU? just a guess!
