PREDATOR: BADLANDS Trailer (2025)

A little too dramatic there

This looks ass but fuck it, I've read some atrocious Predator novels and short stories lately and this can't possibly be worse. I'll go watch it in my local theatre.

Awful to the point of secondhand embarrassment while watching the trailer, which is becoming a theme with much of the new film trailers I've seen as of late.

Endless trash indeed.

My god, it looks worse than anyone could imagine.

Shit CG Predator. Awful MCU lines and the Predator now talking. Holy shit.
The Predator even dropping trailer quotes and audience hype bait (you just know they are hoping for the US cinema audience to cheer when he delivers that line).

Brain rot shite.

Nooo, who doesn't like a buddy movie? Imagine bad boys but with out that cuck and an android and a predator instead buddy cops. Same same but different. Let's Gooooo! I'll take this over Avatard in every timeline.

Jesus you lot are bunch of fucking negative ninnies, that looked glorious, another Predator movie from the dude that gives us the excellent Prey? Count me the fuck in, after the brilliant Predator animation and now this, great to see the classics come back

Yeah, I'm not getting the hate, lol. Some folks just want the same movie over and over again, how about we try to expand the universe in interesting new ways?

Prey was fantastic, Killer of Killers was fantastic. I have high hopes for this.

I've been hearing that based on this new trailer (and all of the little things hinted in it), this movie seems like it is more for fans of the Predator comic books, which is why fans of just the movies (especially just the first 2 movies) might not take well to it.

I don't know what is wrong with the predator's look, but it's got a case of the Sonic the hedgehog movie. They need to change it before the movie releases.

Gave it a more flesh like color, dumb looking pony tail. It's probably going to end up being a lady predator. GURL power.

Edit: guess my lady predator thought was not unique, after perusing the thread. Shoulders are pretty slim, almost no sounds from the voice other than that one scream. I think this is a high chance.

Also, I must have seen a different Prey movie. I was not blown away at all.

Predator 1 is one of the best sci-fi movies ever made. That's among all sci-fi, not just the predator universe. Still holds up. None of the other predator movies come close.

Seems to be catering to a very specific male demographic which is evident in this thread.

The expanded lore and connection to Aliens could be mildly entertaining. But the Predator does look legit retarded and it's yet another movie with a white female lead + her diversity friend, which we just got in Alien Romulus.

which is why fans of just the movies (especially just the first 2 movies) might not take well to it.
Yeah that must be it, March 🙄

I'm talking about the primary casual base, not the culture war types and rage baiters, that's a bubble audience.

You know, the same primary audience who gave AvP tons of ticket sales but didn't really show up enough for Predators and Predator 2.

I Like Elle Fanning. Not a fan of the buddy cop idea. Seems off for a Predator movie.

But, i did enjoy Prey, and thought it was a very good film. Badlands looks somewhat interesting, and at least i doubt it'll be as bad as the autistic predator.

If they really want to push the lore, just make the yautja a hermaphroditic race.

The actual fan base will only really want one look for a female predator, and we all know what that looks like....

but sexy lady predator really makes no sense. Why does she need breasts? Are they mammals that feed their young milk? Why the wider hips? Do they lay eggs or birth live young? But regardless of the "Why" behind it, the female preds gotta be sexy to the human male gaze, this is true for the female version of ANY fantasy creature barring making the females a brood queen like Aliens.

I liked the Prey reboot and the Predator animation was mostly great, but this teenager Predator just looks weird.

She would be the definition of a butterface though

This looks like shit, i'm sorry but you'll never top the first two, what the fuck is this design and stop with the marvel humor... And of course it's now tied with the Alien universe, i'm telling you know, in a few years it will be like Star wars now, worthless !

I mean predator 2 is already light years from the first one, i would not put them in the same realm.

No. It's the cutoff point for quality of this franchise. Every predator movie since 2 has been awful and 2 was just okay.
Then the cutoff point should be just one, not two.

Again, two stays on people's lists due to nostalgia. It constantly gets a free pass.

It's the TMNT: Secret of the Ooze conundrum.

No. You're stuck in this mindset that the people that hate the predator movies after 2 only do so because they're newer. They just suck. Badly. 2 is a better movie compared to everything that has followed.

The secret of the ooze is fucking terrible too. Nostalgia can't save that one. The same with Ghostbusters 2. It's awful.

Exactly, and Predator 2 deserves to be next to these two is what I'm saying.

Only Aliens and T2 deserve the praise they get as sequels. P2 does not belong there and shouldn't be considered a cutoff point for the franchise.

Predator 2 is a goddamn masterpiece and I will hear nothing to the contrary.

It was a fantastic sequel, you where never topping the lightning in a bottle original and to go from the Jungle to the Urban Jungle was a class move, action was top notch with an incredible opener showing us the violence of downtown LA perfect for a Predator, it had everything, superb protagonists.. foookin voodoo magic maan.. the always brilliant Pvt Hudson and a Predator laying waste to everyone, icing on the cake was a Gary Busey giving it millions... Predator 2 would never be as good as the 1st but it deserves to sit in it's shadow as a decent Predator flick as does Prey and hopefully this one

I think Predator 2 is a fun movie. I don't think all fun movies are excellent movies, but that doesn't make them not fun. Same with Ghostbusters 2 and Secret of the Ooze.

Sometimes I'll even find myself humming these two songs from time to time:

Having fun with a movie involves being okay with a level of cheese and/or dumb moments. Predator 2 fans want to have their cake and eat it too, but then in the same breath they might say that they don't think that AvP and Prey are fun movies.

I think we can all agree that Predator 1 deserves the pedestal it's placed on, but either Predator 2 goes with the other fun ones or it doesn't, but it damn sure doesn't belong next to Predator 1.

The SDCC Panel:

Some notes:

Dan Trachtenberg (Director)
  • He was a fan of the franchise since he was a kid
  • He collected Predator comics and even read Gamepro magazines with predator games on the cover just to know more
  • He wanted to make a Predator movie where we finally have a Predator as the protagonist who goes through a journey
  • He wanted to do something different than the typical movie where the Predator is the same slasher villain he always is
  • He thought of the Predator in this movie as a Conan type of character; someone who kills and follows their own path to glory
  • They had to flesh out the speech of Yautja
  • Wanted to involve Weilan Yutani due to their usage of robots
  • Due to the above, he wanted to avoid using actual human characters as much as possible and wanted to focus on just creatures and robots
  • Wants to go back to AvP someday and do it better
  • Ends the show with showing the audience the first 15 minutes of the movie (not shown in the youtube vid for obvious reasons)

Elle Fanning (Actor)
  • Loved Prey when she watched it and she was interested in the new movie's role
  • She mentions an uneasy alliance between the Predator and her robot

Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi (Actor)
  • Demetrius (Actor who plays Predator) and Elle had to learn Yautja and speak it well
  • Did stuntwork with a lot of physical training beforehand
  • He had to carry Elle on his back with a harness for multiple scenes (and she felt bad about that)

Alec Gillis
  • Art/FX Lead who worked on Predator since the original with Arnold
  • Loved his team's work on AvP
  • Loves to use practical effects a lot to a good, reasonable degree
  • Starts showing practical equipment that was made at around 17:00
  • Movie shot mostly in New Zealand, actual trenches, etc. to avoid VFX soundstages as much as possible
  • Collaborated with WETA workshop

Sounds fucking awesome tbh.

Well, they are certainly SAYING the correct things, lets see if it works on screen.

"I've been a fan of XXX since I was a wee baby" has been bandied about so many times to justify nonsense, it has lost all meaning.

I condensed that part because there was much more detail to it. Just keep in mind that this director is much more of a fan of the Predator comics and mythos than just the Predator 1 film.

Shane Black liked just Predator 1, and that's why he gave us The Predator 2018.

I thought the new trailer looked awesome. Leaned in heavily on sci fi and the technology Yautjas use. Definitely seeing this on the big screen. Can't wait.

Yeah, it's clear he's an enthusiast of the franchise. Predator/Aliens has always had awesome lore and it's about damn time they do something with it.

After watching Killer of Killers the director has earned my trust. Curious to see where he goes with Badlands.
