PREDATOR: BADLANDS Trailer (2025)

Maybe they're setting up a new cinematic universe that'll end with Alien vs Predator: ID4

That truly would be scraping the barrel.

Predator 2 added the Xenomorph skull to the Predators trophy room as an in-joke that was done by one of the prop designers. But it lead to the Aliens vs Predator franchise... which IMO is not the worst thing to happen. I always enjoyed the games that came out of it. The movies are a mixed bag, but a guilty pleasure.

If Fox wants to consolidate all of the 'Alien' creatures into: AVPVH.... sure, why not? I had to google the name of the Alien race from ID4. They are apparently called The Harvesters. Which, is what they do. Maybe they can go one step further and add Mulder and Scully into the mix?

Sounds like you'd be a perfect fit to run this franchise further into the ground.

Alien vs Predator is its' own unique franchise. It's not cannon to the stand-alone Alien franchise. But apparently is cannon to the Predator universe. I was joking about Mulder and Scully, given that X-Files exists outside of Independence Day. The X-Files movie had Mulder piss on an ID4 poster in a back alley. But there could always be a non-cannon 'X-Files' in the AvP universe where Mulder is already aware of the 'Predator race'.

It already seems like the Harvester race from ID4 is now cannon to the Predator and AVP universe with this movie.

Also, Aliens vs. Predator (with an s) is technically a different franchise from Alien vs. Predator. Aliens vs. Predator is connected to James Cameron's Aliens and features the space marines.

Like any horror villain, the Predator, and xenomorph, skynet, etc, the LESS we know about them, their motives, their wants/desires, the better. As a reflection of aspects of humanity we can project onto their inscrutable thinking, the better they work as villains. The Predator represents the base male desire for dominance, conquest, and the hunt. Which is why trying to pivot the series to women isn't working well. The xeno biology of implantation and (horrific) birth is much more suited to a heroine to deal with, and the series are really never strayed from that formula. No one has really delivered any good background lore to these creatures, skynet is constantly shifted around as well, so just stop trying.

A tie-in to Independence Day......sure, why not? Except that their tech, now adopted by humanity, is the EXACT OPPOSITE of the grimy, industrial, blue-collar aesthetic that makes the Alien universe so appealing. Slick force field clad laser ships are not what I want dealing with xenos. For a little fun nod in the background, sure. Even a little "what-if short in an anthology series, go ahead. But a full blown theatrical effort to tie in those franchises......? nah

is this the Official sequel or the so called Secret sequel shot in tandem or something like that.

Didn't they announce they secretly shot a second movie.

I'd rate the face better than Feral and Spider Predators, but on par or slightly worse than number 10.

Contrary to how nostalgic everyone is being in this thread, I still think Wolf Predator from AVP2 remains the best looking one.

I've never seen Prey but I have to admit I like the look of the Predator in it.

The second thing is Killer of killers

The second thing is Killer of killers

is it? I swear the director of the movie said they shot 2 films.

maybe I misunderstood what he meant.

Skynet was always pretty self explanatory. Even from the first movie. There was never much mystery around its' motives. Kyle Reese explains everything to Sarah, including Cyberdyne.

The Predators' motivations in the original movie were pretty well laid out and is slowly revealed over the course of the movie. I guess it spots Dutch and his group of bad ass Commando's and comes to a conclusion that those specimens would look great in its' trophy room.

Predator 2 has Gary Busey bring the movie to a complete halt for a moment, just so he could explain to the audience that the Predator is there on safari.

I think the original Ridley Scott Alien did leave a pretty good mystery for the audience to solve with the space jockey and the origins of the facehuggers. But each following sequel did try to explain more of the backstory, including Ridley Scott's own Prometheus.

But I do agree with your sentiment that sometimes 'less is more'. I think some of the Predator backstory can become a bit much. I'm not sure how much was gained by learning the back stories of the space jockeys in Prometheus. I didn't really hate Prometheus, myself. But Skynet was always pretty well explained. I guess Skynet's backstory changes with each movie, because the time loop continually changes.

In the original Predator movies, the female human was left unharmed. I would amuse because Predators' follow some sort of universal hunters code of never harming the females. So the planet can be repopulated for future hunts. Predator 2 simplifies this by showing that the female cop was pregnant through Predator vision. So the Predator leaves her alone.

So basically the cycle continues.

Predator, Predator 2 - anything after is shit. Ignore.
Alien, Aliens - same (but Romulus is a worth a watch because the effects work is incredible).
Terminator, Terminator 2 - same

In my opinion the more we hear/see about skynet, the less intimidating it becomes. T3 started having it branch out to Connors lieutenants which just seems silly, the T4 has the whole corp cyborg angle, then it gets worse from there. Genysis being the worst with nano-Connor. Even the TV show with all these 'stranded in time' Terminators was a WTF moment.

Terminator isn't a universe, its a horror film about an unstoppable force. Skynet is a boogeyman incubator.

Again, keep it simple. We don't need to know the home world of the preds, their society, etc. Lay it out through their interactions while on the hunt and that's all we need to know. Badlands with what appears to be pred home world stuff fills me with dread (and not the good kind).

The less said about the black goo, the better.

See, here I would say its the Predator leaving a defenseless HUMAN behind, which in this film just happens to be the only female, as ALL the men are otherwise sexual tyrannosauruses.

In Pred2 I think it WOULD have killed lady cop, but her pregnancy spared her as the Preds are clearly pro-life. Fighting the preds and then surrendering doesn't spare you, you have to be weak and not worth a trophy from the get go.

This is a simple concept and can be played with a myriad of ways from the human perspective. THats what I would prefer, rather than start having all these shades of preds with differing attitudes and more complex motivations that will often put them at odds with what we've seen already. I've high hopes for the cartoon as anthologies to show us the way.

Though I admit, a film where skynet has won, the humans are in hiding, a few in the radioactive wasteland of detroit power up Robocop while a heat wave brings preds to earth to hunt terms and humans and a Harvester ship, now contaminated with xenos with whip tentacles due to mixing with them crashes into Earth.......I'd buy that for a dollar :P Old Dutch helping out could meet young Model 101 :P

What else could Disney/Fox throw at it? Some Marvel heroes? Nah. Klaatu, why the F not?!? Alita, some Avatar blue cats? Maybe. Have the undersea Abyss aliens pop up? HELLS YEAH!

Gonna be interesting seeing the Predator drop the hard R.

Now you've bought that to attention I'm expecting the Predators to get cancelled on Blue Sky.

Why can't movies make the Predator look good? Only the original it doesn't look like a guy in a suit. The mask quality and everything has never matched it.
