PREDATOR: BADLANDS Trailer (2025)

Did not have in bingo card that I would be liking this movie but here we are. The trailer did dirty for the movie as the Predator makeup does not look as shit in the movie. Its not Predator 1 make up though nor is it a Predator movie either. Miles better then Alien Romulus and I would but in the camp of Prey. So in order from best to worst - Predator 1 & 2 then Badlands and Prey. If you go into this movie looking it to be dark and gritty you will be disappointed. It is its own thing. Its a Lethal of Weapon of Predator movies and I'm quite okay with that. What Fox/Disney has put out in the recent years this is far from the worst. Its not great but certainly worth a watch.

The fact it opens up the lore of what Blade Runner and Alien hinted with the Weyland Yutani androids connection is what I like about the movie. I get why others might not though. Its more adult here then it was in the Alien Earth TV-show which is not saying much as the Jar Jar Bink comedy relief character of the show shoots the mood down quite a lot. But it's there and I have always wanted them to dig into it more. More darker tone would not hurt either. But at least here the androids are not complete morons or are the main characters either. I did not like the way they took Predator gadgets away from him and made him rely on MacGyver shit but I guess it was to portray hes ingenuity with all the odds stacked against him.

I agree with most of your points there and your linking thoughts about the company.

For me though. This was just a predator movie that went in a different direction. I think this just felt more fitting, after prey and these 2 movies exist by themselves. As essentially 1 & 2 do

It's not a perfect move, but as I mentioned before. The trailer made me think they were undoing the good will of prey. Then the predator designs really had me cringing

But for me. It all just worked in the setting and universe that the director is clearly building. It was a fun movie that embraced some changes and tried to do something a little different

It just felt that this movie is pushing the bar on what a predator movie could be these days (with 3 being like a remake of 1 and 4 being what a really disappointing predator movie looks like)

Do I need to watch any previous modern Predator movies before this? Only ones 've seen are the first og 2. Havent seen the one with the natives either, just wondering if they are connected or nah.

Nope. There are little nods the Prey and Alien but I dont remember towards the newer Predator movies. The movie is pretty self sufficient.

The animated one "Killer of Killers" is probably the only one as it gives you a little bit about some of the Trachenberg predator society. But not really required by any means.

I wouldn't say so. I haven't seen the other recent stuff and it worked fine for me.
