Predict what your top 5 games of 2025 will be and we'll see how accurately it turned out a year from now

I only played through Kuro No Kiseki (Steam) and Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition (Switch) when it comes to games that actually came out this year so I'll say those two in that order are my favorite games I played this year that came out this year

I'm gonna match you on Metroid Prime 4, Silksong, and Ghost of Yotei in my top 3. But then I will swap in Reanimal and Professor Layton and the New World of Steam in the last two spots.

Mmm, I liked all three of those but I don't think any of them make my top 5. Reanimal and Prof. Layton were delayed. Not a super great result, oh well.

Let's see:
  1. Mario Kart X
  2. Fire Emblem 4 Remake
  3. Doom The Dark Ages
  4. Dragon Quest XII
  5. Grand Theft Auto 6
  6. Half-Life 3*
*It's real to me damn it!

Yikes! MK World was not the game I was hoping for and Doom The Dark Ages was just flaccid. All the other games didn't even come out.

Clair Obsur and Trails 1st Chapter were the hits I didn't even know I wanted. AAA gaming is in a big rut right now.

In no particular order:

Death Stranding 2
GTA6
Ghost of Yotei
Monster Hunter Wilds
DOOM: The Dark Ages

Judas could be there if it releases, MGS Delta is a remake of one of my GOATs, RE9 rumored...

As always, I know there will be surprises that come out of the blue, whether indie or yet unannounced AAA. Unicorn Overlord and Wukong both surprised me in 2024 to make it in my top 5, Inscryption was in my top 3 of 2023, let's see what happens.

Well well well, the surprises did indeed come, hot and heavy. My top 5 of 2025:

1. Death Stranding 2
2. KCD2
3. Expedition 33
4. Silksong
5. Silent Hill f

DOOM was very good, got the plat trophy, just couldn't compete with a lot of the other stuff that released. MHW was solid but overall a step back from Worlds. I'm still playing through Yōtei, love it but it won't crack my top 5. GTA6 obviously didn't materialize, neither did Judas. MGS Delta IS one of my faves of the year but I made an arbitrary decision to exclude remasters/remakes from my GOTY list so Tactics is out too. Split/Fiction and Nightreign were up there until September delivered Silksong and Silent Hill.

Overall a fantastic year, lots of great stuff on the rest of my top 10 like Ender Magnolia, Hell is Us and Khazan, still need to get around to stuff like Cronos and Ball X Pit, looking forward to the already super stacked 2026!

Edit: and I'll add no doubt Hades 2 would be in my top 5, waiting for the PS5 release, Bananza quite possibly too but I'm in no rush to grab a Switch 2 yet.
