OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
I was listening to Purple Rain on the way from work yesterday, and couldn't believe how well this album stands up to his other albums even today! I have always liked Prince's earlier work with The Revolution and could never figure out why he split up with them and proceeded to go in a more R&B direction. I like his rock-ish, edgy sound displayed on classics such as 1999, Let's Go Crazy, When Doves Cry, Computer Blue, etc. 1999, Purple Rain, Under the Cherry Moon and Sign of the Times are by far his greatest albums! After that all his material went to shit. I haven't sat down and listened to any of his albums all the way through since the Batman soundtrack. The newer ones are too R&B-ey for me and I just couldn't get into them.

I haven't heard his latest album but it got pretty good reviews. What can you guys tell me about it? Are there any signs on the album that he's going back into the rock, guitary, Revolution-y type direction? Or is it the same ole cliche and generic R&B shit?

Oh and Computer Blue>>>>>>>>everything else! His most underrated track ever!

why would trent be influenced by that?

nin were around way before prince came around.

Prince was the cause of much public drunk ridiculousness on my part during this past school year. Damn you, infectious, hot, steamy tunes!

Purple Rain is such a class album, not a duff track on the whole thing.

The new album? Well I wouldn't say it's rockier, not to my recollection (I haven't listened to it much recently), but it's definitely funkier, less soppy stuff.

I agree with you wholeheartedly Isamu. Post Revolution = shit. Old Prince = The Awesomeness. I've just totally given up on buying new albums from him as they are ALWAYS a dissapointment.

Prince in concert here in DC... what was that.. last year? Kicked so much ass....

Prince is incredible... a lot of his albums during his contract troubles were shit. Rave was an improvment and Musicology was fantastic. Darien is correct that Prince in concert is something else.

17 Days is his best song :)

Prince, Detroit Masonic Temple, Fall 1982, BEST CONCERT EVER.

Not to mention he was touring with The Time and Vanity 6.

OK, I'm old.

Little Red Corvette is my fav prince song, one Night when playing Halo 2 on live with wedge I was Dj’ing our matches to the sounds of prince.

I hope he tours some more but I heard a rumor he was done.. like for good. who the fuck knows though

UPDATE ON PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOT OFF THE PRESS..........

6/10/05

"Ex-Revolution drummer Bobby Z. Rivkin, who just came back from a visit in Paisley last week, made these startling comments today to the New York Post....Bobby explains, "I was forced to listen to Prince and Larry Graham engage in a homophobic rant, according to another former band member whom Rivkin told about the meeting. Prince explained to Rivkin that prior to any reunion of the Revolution (an idea discussed several times overy the years), Wendy and Lisa would be required to publicly renounce their homosexuality. As Rivkin listened incredulously, Prince said he would insist that the women hold a press conference and "apologize" for their lifestyle

From there, the discussion veered toward religion and race; Prince and Graham got on a bizarre jag about the word "jew" meaning "black." Rivkin, who had been looking forward to this rare visit, excited Paisley Park in a state of disgust. Afterword, he told a former Morris Day that he didn't care if he ever saw Prince again."

WHAT THE FUCK? So Prince doesn't want any lesbos in his mind and this guy goes nuts because of it??????
