I am looking to replace my old HP Deskjet 825C. It will be used mainly for printing out text. I would really like it if the cartridge replacement was cheap.

Any suggestions?

Canon IP1500 is $50. The replacement carts are about 8 bucks each. They don't hold much, but it still comes out cheaper then almost everything else.

I have one of the Lexmark X73's.

It is ok.

I think it is relatively cheap, plus it has the flatbed scanner/copier thing.

Cartridge's are a pain in the ass, though. I buy knock-offs for $20 each on eBay...I think they are around $30-40 each in the stores.

Thanks hepcat. Looks like a decent deal, but I wouldn't mind paying a little more for something that is multifunction. And something that has good, cheap, speedy B/W output. Any suggestions?

Ugh, 30 bucks is a lot for replacement carts. :(

If you buy a Dell branded printer the only cartridges that work with them will have to be ordered directly from Dell I believe, which seems like quite a hassle. IMO, if you're only worried about B&W text output you may as well get a consumer laser jet printer like the Samsung ML-1740 or one of the HP ones.

I could live with a laser B/W, but I would really prefer a cheap multifunction if possible.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Replacement carts don't seem to be that outrageous. 20 dollars for a B&W which from my experience with HP usually prints over 500 pages.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
Modern color ink jets are like modern consoles. They sell the initial hardware cheap, but the cartridges (literally) are ridiculously expensive. It's a little box full on ink, how much could it possibly cost to manufacture? Apparently enough to charge consumers, on average, about $20-$30 a pop for them. If you're mostly going to be doing or can get away with B/W, I'd highly recommend just picking up a lower-end HP laserjet. If you do alot of printing, you'll save a ton of money in the long run. You can find them for like sub-$200 these days easily. Personally, I save all my printouts for work or school, where I can waste their money.

I still like the ability to print something in color every once in awhile, especially since we don't have any printers that can do this at schoole.

I think I have settled on this printer unless someone can tell me why not to get it. It has decent speed, good print quality, and 4 cents per page is not bad at all. The ability to scan documents will come in really handy as well. Comes to $86 with the mail in rebate and I am going with an Epson because I was really impressed with the photo printer from Epson.

My sister got that printer for free with her laptop, its pretty damn good for an $80 printer.

I can't be seen with the same printer as a Jordaphile! That decides it, looks like I am getting an Epson! :D
