I keep getting this error when I'm installing the game. is there a way to make it work? the disc isn't scratched or anything either.

Try copying all the discs to a folder on your HD and install from there.

Steampowered.com's support area says this for error 1334:

If you get this error, you need to restart Steam, let Steam update and then restart your installer again. Steam will rename and update the missing files and your installation should continue normally.

Make sure you install both HL2 and CS:Source (not just HL2).

ok, tried to run steam and when I go to create an account I get this:

I've looked it up on the steam website but have found nothing so far. why is it not connecting? I am connected at the moment so it should update, right?
