Red 5 Studios Licenses Next Generation Offset Engine

Aliso Viejo, CA - February 13, 2006 - Red 5 Studios, an independent developer of massively multiplayer online entertainment, and Offset Software, a developer of next generation games, today announce that Red 5 Studios has agreed to license the Offset Engine for use in Red 5 Studios upcoming massively multiplayer online game (MMO) title.

Offset Softwares next generation graphics are simply stunning, said Mark Kern, President and CEO of Red 5 Studios. And Offsets content creation tools will enable Red 5 Studios to add real-time cinematic quality to our game world.

The Offset Engine bridges the gap in quality between real-time and pre-rendered graphics. Using revolutionary technology which combines effects elements with unified lighting, shading, and shadowing, the Offset Engine is quickly becoming a top choice among developers of next gen games.

Every aspect of the Offset Engine is designed around the goal of reducing development time and cost, while empowering designers and artists with the tools they need to create spectacular visual effects and immersive environments.

We are excited to work with the world-class team at Red 5 Studios, said Sam McGrath, Offset Software Founder and Technical Director. Based on their previous experience making the most successful MMO to date, we are looking forward to seeing what they can do with the Offset Engine.

Red 5 Studios will be demonstrating the Offset Engine at the upcoming Game Developers Conference in San Jose, California, March 20 - 24, 2006 in the Red 5 Studios/Premier Search Career Pavilion at the San Jose Convention Center.

Interesting.

Nope, no publisher yet.

I'm not an avid fan of MMOs, but I think this technology could be put to really good use in one. It's pretty cool that soon MMOs will have graphics comparable to single player games.

Project Offset is an mmo? Because the G4 interview says its an epic fantasy FPS, with a multiplayer component, team based missions etc. If anything this game is morrowind with dev hosted servers for online play.

Despite the opportunity to improve heroes' arsenals, the core of combat still relies on the skills of the player and not their gear. The battles of this conflict are not won with weapons but with the skills of those that wield them.

Heroes may band together in cooperative play through the single-player campaign hosted on developer-run servers where persistent experience points and rare artifacts provide a compelling reason to relive the adventure again and again.

Game looks awesome, and the engine was running on a system you could get off the shelves 5 months ago amazing for the image quality.

Hmm..first I've seen of Project Offset. Looks interesting. Could bring some cool new elements to the MMORPG genre.

The real question is, who is left at Blizzard that gives us confidence that they can deliver their next game at the same level of quality that we're use to? It seems like there has been a mass exodus, and Blizzard remains in name only at the moment. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not sure I want so see a crappy sequel to StarCraft 2 from developers who had nothing to do with the first game.

Make sure you check out the vids on their web site Kung Fu. Their engine seems pretty awesome.
