Prototype - X-Play World Premiere Trailer

Looks a lot better now. This and inFamous will make my year. I like Prototype for the more original powers, I like inFamous for strafing away from the classic openworld structure (as I like to it, a semi-openworld. There's a free world to explore, but there's still a missionstructure) and creating a world where stuff happens and you get to choose whether you want to act on them or not, and if you do, you can choose how to act.

All in all, great year for the superpowergames.

Originally this was supposed to be released last year, but they pushed back release to polish it and change a couple of things, and I'm really glad they did. I'm really looking forward to this one, would be a shame if it sucked just because they wanted to rush its release.

Been looking forward to this game for a long time.

Did you see him throw that guy at a helicopter!?

There are some videos which I think are new here

Looks seriously cool, especially the free running video. There's a lot of other new stuff on there as well.

Is there any differences between this and Infamous besides tenticles and electricity?? Both look amazing, not sure which one I want to play though
One of them is a bit serious business, and it's not the one where you run on the sides of buildings, explode choppers by trowing people at them and elbow drop tanks. Prototype looks like mad fun. The only question is for how long it'll remain that way, as you typically get tired of monkeying around after a while. Compelling missions please.

Crackdown says "Shuddup foo!"

Guess so ....the new black jacket thing is too douchey for me
Come on, everyone knows that vests are more douchey than jackets.

BTW, I got up this morning expecting something awesome on the official website but when I access it, all I get is a message that says "Countdown Completed" with nothing else to see.

EDIT: I see the links in this thread allow me to see other stuff. I wonder what the deal is when I just go directly to the site.

EDIT 2: I see, you have to go to http://www.prototypegame.com -- http://prototypegame.com doesn't take you past the countdown completed note.

Can't see at work but,

Still M-Rated? I heard a while back they were doing something ridiculous like toning down for a T-Rating.

Yeah, there's a couple of new videos in the media section and some new stuff to find by messing around in the Helix part of the site.

Man holy crap at this game. Infamous now looks slow, how will they come back. I hope this competition from them both make for two wild games. I love how it's like you can sky dive without a aircraft... Sick

That would be like saying Crackdown was going up against Assassin's Creed, but they weren't, and neither are Infamous and Prototype.

damn those video's look good. now I only hope the missions are interesting enough to keep me playing. I wish they would show some of them to give us an idea of what to expect.

It's a bit closer than that. Lost memory, super powers, shadowy group that's looking to control things, jumping and vertical scaling of buildings.

There's also differences in regards to tone and presentation. But I do think the games are close enough to be direct comparables.... and I also think that Infamous does very poorly in the comparison. This game just looks FUN in the same way Crackdown is, while Infamous is? And maybe that's the problem with Infamous, it's trying to be an Assassin's Creed + Crackdown but is going too much the one way. And I really enjoyed AC too.

Looks pretty sweet. I just hope the frame rate holds at around 30fps.

when the game was presented for the first time - most of the demo code was at 60fps and that was the target too!

btw. is the splatter gone now?

Holy shit. Those IGN videos are fucking amazing. Looks like so much fun. And wtf at the human surfboard in the first video :lol

The gameplay mechanics look cool. Only problem is that for a sandbox game, I hope the missions are varied to a point where a lot of them will feel different and unique.

Looks really good. Art style is a bit eh, but it looks to be a blast. I wouldn't say it makes Infamous irrelevant. Infamous seems to have a more intimate play style which doesn't make it worse.

As long as they don't tone down the gore I'm still game. I can't wait to cut people in half and generally cause havok.

Since it was delayed maybe there will be a E3 co op surprise or something. Those vids are awesome.
I wish, but I doubt it. 1UP.com (R.I.P.) covered the subject less than a month ago in an interview with Radical's Chris Ansell:

1UP: Is co-op still a possibility?

CA: We made the decision earlier this year to focus the development team 100 percent on the core single-player experience for Prototype, so there are no plans for multiplayer co-op functionality. We were really glad to see that the large majority of our hardcore fans agreed with us in making the decision to leave multiplayer out of this product and focus on the core experience.

1UP: Is there any chance of co-op making its way into the game as downloadable content at some point?

CA: The honest answer is that while it would be incredibly cool, adding a "bolt-on" cooperative mode to a big open-world game that was sculpted around a single-player experience would be a gargantuan task and difficult to pull off with the same levels of quality and polish of the original game. This is why we made the decision to deliver a knockout punch with Prototype's single-player game experience.
--------------------

I certainly don't agree with the statement claiming, "We were really glad to see that the large majority of our hardcore fans agreed with us in making the decision to leave multiplayer out of this product and focus on the core experience."

The cutting of co-op is about the only thing preventing this from topping my most anticipated titles list.

Dang, this might actually out-crackdown Crackdown.

Meh. Granted, what makes me want to play this game is the same "over the top" feeling that made me want to play Crackdown, but they play completely differently (just look at the way both of these game's leads move through their environment), and there's a lot of things in Crackdown that you can tell won't be in Prototype (and that's not a reproach, I don't want the Prototype guy to drive a giant SUV with harpooned corpses flowing with it like birthday balloons, just pointing out the differences.

They're both in the "over the top fun in open world" category, but they provide (for what we know right know) different kinds of fun. I wouldn't go as far as comparing them directly.

Wow really nice vids on IGN. Really liked the body surf in the first vid :lol
Looks like a sandbox game that could be as fun as Crackdown.

The IGN videos look much better than the CES trailer. A mod should edit the original post to include the IGN links. Bodysurfing and flying through the air FTW.

Okay that trailer sucks.

EVERYONE WATCH THE IGN VIDZ !!!

When he jumped off that building's wall and started to fly around I felt the same "omg" feeling I had when we first saw the game in those old Gamersyde vids.

As did I. Those few seconds of him jumping just put this game at the top of my list for 2009.

Oh god, those IGN vids look sweet.

Mafia II (as long as they don't GTAize it) + Prototype = best year for free roaming action games evar.
