PS Portal question?

I'm very interested in getting a PS Portal tomorrow, but can you remote play all games as long as they are installed on your PS5? I really want to play 3 specifically Wutherijng Waves, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, and Zenless Zone Zero. Your help on clarifying this would be greatly appreciated. I didn't Google it already, but I need more specifics about it.

Thank you all!

Make sure your PS5 is wired to your router, this is a must for a seamless play experience.

Most games will play but I remember
Puyo Puyo Tetris saying something about not being able to Remote Play

Wait and buy the Nintendo Switch 2 instead. I know what I'm saying.

Honestly not necessary, my friend (who owned it before me, and playing theirs was what convinced me to get it) has a PS5 on Wifi, and the Portal still worked just fine for all but the most input intensive games.

That said, OP is planning on playing network intensive games, so your advice isn't bad as a general rule regardless.

everything that works with the PS Remote Play app on your phone will also work on the Portal.

the Portal is essentially an android device that runs a modified version of the PS Remote Play app

I use a retroid pocket for this with the added functionality of android games and emulation up to gc

I think you'll enjoy it. It's one of the best gaming hand helds out there. The only issues are the tiny thumb sticks and the lack of Bluetooth audio. But beyond that, the screen, the other controls and everything else is very, very, very good.

I don't believe I've ever found a game I can't play. Works surprising well, even outside the house.
Ive never been able to get it to work outside of my home, ive got gigabit bb too, maybe the places I visited, seem to always be quite remote. Last two places I went were in the country with barely 30mb BB and it didnt even connect so I had to doom scroll instead.

Like not able to connect, or bad connection/experience ? Cause the first one is pretty common and you need to open ports in your router

The Portal is a great device. Open up some ports on your router and gaming outside of your home is very good. As long as you have at least 40-50Mbps upload, it will be fine for every style of game. I have Gig down and 400 up. I play Marvel Rivals on my Portal at work on lunch, It is like I am playing it at home. I don't know how they are doing it, but they are.

It is streaming over the internet
MS sure as hell isn't streaming like this, neither is Valve. I've tried all of them, Sony is crushing it. Playing Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, any fighting game, etc., streaming from my PS5, to my device that is on a network of hundreds of devices, with no noticeable latency and perfect visual quality is quite impressive. No shit, it is streaming across the internet, but to do it as good as Sony is doing it is saying something. Thanks for pointing this out, Captain Obvious.

My home connection is 1gbps, but at work we only have a "modest" 50/5 Mbps connection and it works flawlessly. The first time I tried it, I didn't expect a playable experience yet I could hardly tell a difference.

I am not able to create a thread yet, so I will ask here -

For anyone who streams PS5 games, have you tried either or both? I have a Steam Deck OLED and I have tried Chiaki recently, works well for the most part, but I was curious if others thought the Portal is the better option of the two? I may just buy a Portal and compare but was curious on others opinions who have tried both options.

If you have a bad remote play experience on PC/android/iOS/SD whatever, the same is going to be true on a portal since there's no "magic sauce" to speak of.

In fact, until a few months ago, you could argue that the RP experience was actually better on anything besides the portal since Sony hadn't fixed yet the 59.96.Hz stutter which was due to a Hz mismatch between the portal's 60Hz locked screen and the 59.96Hz signal from the PS5.
On chiaki and Psplay there was an actual option about this very problem that you could activate, it was either that, or, using RP on devices that had a >60Hz refresh rate screen (phone/tablet etc).

Got it. I usually have a solid experience when using Chiaki. I was also curious if the portal experience, screen, controller etc was not enough justify $200 over the Steam Deck.

Yes, the 8" screen , proper PS/dualsense controls, haptics/rumble make it worth it Brandwin IMO.

If you can get behind the fact that this is only for streaming...it's actually a really nice device 😉

Thanks. I might just buy one and if I don't like it, I could always return it. I appreciate the replies.

It is shocking how much better Sony's streaming service is than Xbox. It seems like it should be the other way around.

They're roughly the same quality, where PS Portal wins out is the Dualsense functionality (such as triggers and haptics), as well as better ergonomics.

Personally, if you for some reason have $200 to spend on games, Portal is a great device to get for a PlayStation owner looking for more ways to engage with their library.

Thanks. Any thoughts on which screen has the better picture?

I don't know how run ZZZ because when I play SF6 online was a delay. But single players run smooth.

Steam Deck's OLED is absolutely the better screen by far, but the LCD on the Portal is surprisingly great. It's a downgrade from an OLED, but a very small one, small enough that the pros of a Portal make up for it IMO

(both are better than the Steam Deck LCD lol, but you said you have an OLED so that's really a moot point)
