PS2 to PSP Ports

So, which ports would you be interested in?

Some of my picks:

Soul Calibur 2
Virtua Tennis
Katamari Damacy
Rayman 2

It would be really great if publishers were to do quick ports and sell them at a premium price of $19.99.

Of course, original games are preferred, but quick and cheap ports for some games would most certainly be welcomed.

Drakan:The Ancient Gate. In fact, bring back the multiple-player modes of Drakan:OTF with WiFi multiplayer gameplay then I'll be really sold.

I must make a note that I don't support porting as a general rule, but in the case of the PSP, since the PS2 software is so recent, and since it makes complete sense to release a line of cheap ports, well, I can't say no to it. It's too enticing.

What I categorically don't support is the practice of porting games over and over and over again.

Nintendo, I'm looking at you! :p

BTW, where in the heavens is a Kid Icarus port?

f*ck ports. i want to see psp exclusives that take advantage of the strengths of the hardware.

Isn't there room for both these AND ports? Like IJoel said, especially if they're at a budget price.

Anything good that lends itself to quick gaming sessions and can be replayed:

Frequency, Amplitude (would these two work well though, triggers on PSP are not quite as responsive as those on PS2?)
Gradius 5
R-Type Final
Rez

just to name a few.

Ijoel, how would Katamari work without one analog stick?

What I'd really like to see ported...

PlayStation 2
-Dual Hearts
-Bombastic
-Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
-MegaMan Anniversary Collection
-Viewtiful Joe 1+2 (on one disc)
-Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
-Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil
-Dragon Quest V
-Sonic Mega Collection Plus
-Super Monkey Ball Deluxe
-Gradius V

Dreamcast
-Jet Grind Radio
-Virtua Tennis 2
-PowerStone
-Marvel Vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes
-Border Down

GameCube
-Mr Driller: Drill Land
-Home Land

...I think all those could actually be perfectly ported in terms of visuals and inputs.

The entire Suikoden series! I would be in heaven with that!
they just need to port the first two, fix the bugs and translation errors in the second one, and print "suikoden final" on the disc ... and then stop making new ones.

The major problem with this idea is that it doesn't work. I'm working on an article about this right now, and initial response from developers seems to say that although you could just port a PS2 title to PSP, the usability drops like a rock because important visual cues to the player get obfuscated or dropped on a smaller screen. So you end up having to go back in and redesign the game. Yeah, this would still be less work than a brand new game, but if we see Katamari on the PSP it won't just be a port.

Not to mention the fact that you and I both know Katamari is a better fit for the DS.

I could see some games (horizontal shooters being the best example) making the transition unaffected. Gradius V, Einhander, and R-Type Final are all perfect candidates.

All of those would be excellent choices. Frequency and Amplitude might be a bit tricky with only two triggers instead of three (I'm an L1-R1-R2 user), but two triggers and a face button would work (as some other players like to use on the PS2 games now).

I also have to go with some of the fighting games, especially Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution (or maybe we can get Virtua Fighter 4 Final Tuned instead), Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (hopefully with a more reasonable difficulty curve for Hyper Street Fighter II this time around), and War of the Monsters (preferably with support for 4 or more simultaneous players).

I just got Alien Hominid a few days ago; I think that would make a good PSP game.

Classic arcade game compilations would be great to have on PSP, especially Atari Anthology and Activision Anthology. Midway's packs are good fun, too, but some of the arcade games (even back in the early 1980's) were done in resolutions higher than the PSP's screen.

I'm more concerned at the fact that budget prices probably won't go into effect even if ports were into gear.

Nintendo seems to be selling old software at an outrageous price quite fine, why does Sony have to top it when they can just make the price the norm compared with other PSP games - especially when people will buy a portable version of their favourite game.

if publishers were to do quick ports

That's pretty much expected, isn't it?

and sell them at a premium price of $19.99.

That's so not going to happen though.

What I'd like to see ported are games that'll work well with the format. Faster play/arcade style games and games that don't require long loading. If 2D fighters become filled with loading again (I have not seen Darkstalkers PSP in person so I cannot comment) I probably wouldn't be able to hold my interest long. A port of Soul Calibur 2 would pretty much sell me on a PSP right away though, hopefully that wouldn't be too harsh on loading considering how fast all the games in the series loaded on the various consoles.
