PS3 and Revolution dimensions?

sly

Banned
I know we had several threads during E3 discussing the Xbox 360's size and we eventuallly got the official dimensions. Have Sony and Nintendo released the official dimensions of the PS3 and Revolution?

God damn the Revolution is a sexy machine

Totally agree. At first I also liked the 360 look, but looking at the three side by side, it does look like a PC. And the PS3... WTF is Sony thinking?!?!?!?

Unless Nintendo is working on some waky cooling system there's no way their console's cpu is gonna be a dual-core one.....let alone one with 3 core's.......that thing is just too small.

I heard on the Nintendo.com forums that Nintendo is going with a liquid oxygen cooling system and they are using 6 cores.

When standing up, I like the PS3 design the best by far.
When laying down, I guess the cable modem is the most pleasing...

So lets see:

Standing:

Xbox360: 486 pc??
Ps3: fridge?
Rev: cable modem??

Laying down:

Xbox360: 386 pc??
Ps3:griller??
Rev: pc cd-rom/writer??

Yap that wraps it up....

Yeah, but we won't be draggin' them around with wired controllers this time so I think the size really is quite astonishing and refreshing for a console at launch. Don't forget that they actually said they're trying to make it smaller. :P

These images are not roughly to scale since PS3 is bigger than XBX360.

But since you'll be working extra hours for it, you'll want the extra volume to assure you that you've purchased something worth its weight!

Always love those comparison pics with the consoles at completely different angles to each other and probably taken with a lens that also fucks up the perspective. Tray/slot measuring.. Super.

Kutaragi can lick my balls, mang. I'll buy the system when it's 299.99, not a penny more!

He won't fool me...

To me it would. Right now it looks like it would fit in a drive bay in my PC.

Holy shit, your post just got me thinking, what if it DOES fit in the drive bay of your PC, and then you connect it to your monitor....how cool would that be?

:lol I know you're joking, but that's not even a remotely reasonable proposition. It takes massive amounts of refrigeration equipment to cool oxygen down into liquid form. It's not something like freon that you'd actually use to try to refrigerate something else. Not to mention that LOX would completely freeze over the Revolution so you could shatter it with a pin drop.

I'm such a nerd.

The 360 is so ugly :( Why is the controller so cool yet the design of the console itself is so ugly? :(
The PS3 looks wierd and the Rev is so sexy :D

I saw both the Xbox 360 and PS3 in person in E3 and I could swear that PS3 is bigger.
I dunno - they weren't side by side, and without that I couldn't pin one as bigger then the other - they both looked of very similar sizes to me.

But then again, both of them were just empty boxes at E3, so who knows how reliable those mockup sizes are.

The scaling is based on the fact that they all use 12cm discs--so drive size, if you hadn't guessed. I shrunk the X360 a little more, just for you. If the drive behind that panel is 100% edge-to-edge, that's as small as it can get. It's not a big deal, is it? I made that picture for my nephew, who was jealous that I got to go to E3 and wanted to know what the new consoles looked like in relation to each other. I never saw the PS3; I didn't know it's supposed to be larger. If you've got dimensions, post them. Otherwise, this is as close a comparison as you're going to get.

PS3 is slightly smaller than X360.
X360 = 309mm*258mm*83mm = ~6,616 cubic centermetres.
PS3 = 320mm*240mm*80mm = ~6,144 cubic centermetres.

I posted this yesterday. It doesn't really matter, but after seeing that locked thread, I thought it was funny.

I just love the size of the Revolution. It's so perfect, simple and small. Just how I like my devices. When Nintendo showed the Rev and announced it was about the same size as 3 dvd boxes stacked together, I actually had 3 dvd boxes right next to me stacked together. Coincidence? ;) And yes, you people heard correct, the final design of the Revolution is going to be even smaller and I have to say I'm not sure that's a good thing. But this concept is very sexy anyway.

Xbox: 1.466 Gflops
PS2: 6.2 Gflops :lol

So basically the PS3 is longer(or stands taller if both consoles are placed vertically) and sits lower than the middle of the Xbox 360's nexus???

X360 dimensions are officials, that's what MS sent to retailers, dunno if it's with or without HDD. PS3 dimensions are obviously estimates (1 chance out of 1000 for all dimensions to finish with a 0).

If Rev offers a handful of really creative/clever games, is half the price of the other two consoles, and a quarter the volume, what gamer wouldn't pick it as at least their second console of the next generation?

After seeing how similar their size/stats are, owning both an X360 and a PS3 seems redundant by comparison.

I'd buy that Rev looks like a cable modem or a bay drive, but the blue LED makes it a damn sexy modem IMO.

Why is everyone ignoring the shiny exterior? Modems don't have that. I read the IGN hands-on article where they said that white Rev looked like an apple product.

Interesting. I want Sony to release official specs, though.

PS2: 6.2 Gflops

That are the flops of the cpu I belive. The PS2s cpu was far more powerful but also did the GPUs work. The xbox has a seperate GPU so they each do individual work so both of thier Gflops added would be higher then the PS2s Gflops.

The same people who didn't pick up a GC this gen?
