You're not alone. There's something to it that makes everything look very similar. I still get the "Unreal Engine Demo" feel from all GOW shots.

I was only talking to gigadent. Epic is a very talented company and it's known that they have been working on this engine for a while. Is there ANY Sony dev out there that can make an engine similar to U 3.0? No and especially not Capcom. GoW is going to be one the best looking next gen games on any system.

It's a shame that we won't see the Unreal 3.0 engine on Playstation 3. :(

No disagreement here given seis's previous record, but I haven't read the last page or so of this topic so I don't know what he's said here, I just saw Doom's post and it's utter stupidity caught my eye so I had to post. I would even be inclined to let Doom's post slide if he'd said something like PS3 launch software wouldn't match it, that might be tolerable, but to try and say no PS3 software through its entire lifetime will ever match GoW is entirely laughable.

Given the right hardware (PS3) I'm sure Naughty Dog could destroy any next-gen engine, same with Polyhony, and anything KCEJ can cook up.

Oh and who says that UE3.0 won't be on PS3? UE3.0 supports OpenGL, and 3rd parties who choose to use it can make it work with PS3.

I would be more surprised if UE3 wasn't announced as being available (or to be available going forward) for PS3 at E3. Epic look to be on to a winner with it, and it'd be a shame to cut out a large (the largest?) market for game development. It has to be truly multiplatform if they want it to really take off..

Also, NVidia in PS3 might make it technically fulfilling for Epic to do so (not to speak of Cell). NVidia's next-gen part also has UE3-specific optimisations...

Where did you got that from? As far as I know MS has a licensing deal for five games with Epic, and is licensing their engine. I think anyone else willing can license that engine and some are in fact doing so.

Not that I think other engines won't catch up to it quickly. That very old head tech demo from Heavenly Sword for example looked like it's using more complex shading (it looked like it has sub-surface light scattering) than these U3 demos.

Remember Doom 3? That graphics engine was hyped to the skies and beyond, then a small team in northern Europe gave us the awesomeness that is Riddick, with - if you ask me- an more impressive engine than the one in Doom 3. I doubt Starbreeze spent 1/3 of the time ID did with the D3 engine.

Or am I mistaken?

Having a publishing deal with MS does not constrain them exclusively to MS platforms, and certainly doesn't keep their engine on MS platforms only. They can work with other publishers too, or publish themselves. I don't think Epic would sign away the right to put their engine on other platforms - the loss of potential revenue would be BIG.

You're wrong Doom Bringer,Sweeney and Epic are definetly planning to bring teh Unreal Engine on PS3 :)
Sweeney has already praised the presence of a nVidia GPU in the PS3 since the Unreal Engine is specifically optimized for nVidia's cards.
Microsoft has only licensed the UE3 from Epic for a number of their MGS games.There's no contract of exclusivity.

I meant launch games! Of course both PS3 and 360 will have better looking games compared to GoW down the line, it's only a first gen game after all...
 
The only thing I ask to the PS3 is that it allows me to use my old Dual Shock 1...like PS2 did. They can pack whatever controller they want, I'll continue using the DS1.
 
Epic is NOT A SECOND PARTY to Microsoft.

They have a PUBLISHING AGREEMENT, just like Temco and Mistwalker and everyone else unnamed.

Phil Harrison the Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has revealed that Sony are investigating the use of motion sensing technology for the PS3. Sony has used the Eye Toy to test out this new area of gaming, which seems to have a huge potential. Tell me that most people don't expect the PS3 to destroy what has been shown for Xbox 360 - it may turn out that the PS3 is just as underwhealming ESPECIALLY to all the posters who keep expecting Tekken 5 intro in real time.

I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 "demos" will be more impressive, since they'll be well, demos. I would be curious to know if they announce any games at all, though..

I think they will announce some. Koei will have their own PS3 game footage at their booth, apparently (Oni). I'd expect a mix of tech demo and game footage.

Judging by the reactions to X360 unveiling, it seems like plenty of people wouldn't have had any problem resolving reality against their expectations satisfactorily if MS hadn't made the baffling decision to showcase the most underwhelming software they had over the likes of GoW, 99 Nights, PGR3, etc.

Yes, there are some who clearly are having a harder time keeping their head out of the clouds. But that's not close to everyone from what I'm seeing.

Well, it looks like there are a lot of people expecting too much - and i guess that's who i was addressing, but i think DDKawai has since address that in more detail in a seperate thread now, so i'll shut up.
 
How soon after the conference ends will websites have video streams up? Is anybody doing a live audio steam or something?
 
is that sony ad for real? You would think if they were planning to focus more on ps2 or psp that they wouldn't so publically let the whole community in on the ps3. I mean i figured itd be mentioned in the private press conf but nothing on the show floor itslef. God, us launch 2k5 here we come!!! :D
