Interesting thing is, this could imply that as many suspected, it is really doing half the normal things a normal gpu would do. That is if the name chaperone has any reference to the biological counterparts found in cells (real cells, not THE CELL)... but hey, could be a clever play on word courtesy of sony n nvidia. ;p

if i remember bio 101, chaperones are proteins which help other proteins do a variety of tasks in cells (including and most notably folding properly into their tertiary forms).

The "CELL" is the star of the PS3, the Nvidia chip is very much like a "chaperone", so its a good codename if true.
