May 16, 2005 - Despite early reports that claimed Grand Theft Auto would be a PS3 launch title (gotta love that early launch chaos), we have confirmed with our editors at the Sony E3 press event that no new GTA title has been confirmed for Sony's upcoming machine.

What Rockstar did confirm, however, was that it would be supporting the powerhouse system in the future and that it's looking forward to creating living, breathing worlds with the Cell technology.

Sony NEVER claimed that GTA Next was an exclusive OR a PS3 title.

They had Rockstar at the press conf showing a western "game"... that's it.

You probably remember and article that IGN posted claiming that GTA Next was announced as a PS3 title... but I believe they also recanted that.... I can't remember seeing any references to GTA Next on any other site.

It was a rumor posted on Sony.com's forums, nothing they confirmed themselves.

But if you think GTA Next won't show up on PS3 first...

It's interesting that they had to make that clarification though since most people assumed that GTA would make it to the PS3.

It will be interesting to hear what comes of this.

It almost sounds like someone said something they shouldn't have and they had to retract. The news came out during all the pre-show rumbling, right? That's when people are just standing around and really have nothing to do but talk.

Totally baseless, but just an interesting thought I had.
