PS3 Home Official Thread

Just had a look at the Socom space. Very well made (to my surprise).

+ Interactive map you can present to an audience via a projector (you can turn projector on and off in case you must make preparations). Unlike Warhawk this one is actually really useful (first of all you can easily see and understand it all). It's advanced with all sorts of items and waypoints you can place and it will display paths according to how you plan things (which makes it look like the planning tool like in the classic Rainbow Six pc games). You can choose between all maps, all play modes, you can highlight blue prints for various floors..etc..etc. It's really really deep, looks great and it's probably the most impressive tool I've seen in Home yet. There are two of these presentation tents.
+ Trailer screens, interactive computer (that has description of all maps)
+ Leader board screen that changes between All time, Monthly..etc.
+ Space detail is nice, pretty skybox
- 20fps when running around outside

Check it out.

I can't believe that after months of release the Siren space is still packed and impossible to play. What is the deal with this? Horrible user experience. I wonder how many people leave the room never able to play. Why don't they just reduce the max number of users in that room to 8 max or something.

Well, after Xi stuff there's really no reason to log onto Home for me now. The ending for Xi was quite shitty though. :pThey need more spaces like Xi, or at least playable spaces.

I hope they do something cool for the InFamous space.

The Home space?

Soooo.... I logged into EU Home last night. Nothings changed, totally disappointed. We don't have even half the spaces the US does, what is up with that?

Do you guys know if there's any plans to put the home spaces map in the XMB?

I don't use Home much but would check out new Home spaces much more often if I could just pull them all up as a submenu of the Home icon in the XMB.

I haven't logged into home since they added the redbull game. I've heard a lot of good things, but I heard crowding is still an issue. Has that been alleviated any?

To get hold of this rare item simply keep an eye on the EU blog over the next couple of days. We will publish a promotion code, as a comment within this article, which you will need to redeem; (T’s & C’s apply – click here) but you’ll have to be quick; the promotion code will be valid for one week only!

There will also be a second limited edition promotion code available on Killzone.com which will unlock another exclusive item for the Visari Throne Room. I won’t give too much away here, however be sure to keep an eye out Killzone.com, since no Visari Palace would be complete without one of these rare items…

EU guys, make sure to let us know here at GAF when the code is up.

Also sorta jealous KZ2 stuff only coming out on UK Home first.

Just went to add the two Killzone items to my summer house apartment...... I can't!

Whether its funiture or ornaments it just gives me the message "You have reached your furniture limit for this space", WTF it still looks empty! Here's a quick list of what i have in there...

5x 'sofa' chairs
4x sofas
6x small chairs
4x tables
1x footrest
2x arcade cabinets
2x stools
2x lights
2x plants
22x ornaments including Xi trophies, RE5 figures etc

okay that looks like a lot but thats spread out over the 3 areas, outside, lower floor and upper.

I'm in the UK so cant comment on picture frames but i'm guessing it wont let me add them either.... what happens when more items can be earned in games? I wont be able to put them anywhere unless I buy more apartments! Which i dont intend to do, I havent paid for anything in Home and I don't plan to start...

I can understand a limit on furniture (within reason) to stop the apartment being too full for people to move around... but ornaments too?

Looks like i'm gonna have to get rid of some chairs!

So what's the game launching list look like at this point?

Warhawk
Resistance 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Resident Evil 5
SOCOM: Confrontation?

Am I missing any games?

The framerate is terrible at the Socom site. They really need to mandate a locked 30fps. There is no excuse. It would be nice if Home really was still in beta form and they eventually released a full version with vastly reduced load times. Have your Home personal space displayed under the Home tab on the XMB with instant entry on selection.

Thanks, guys.

Sony should have release date game launching available for all their games that feature a multiplayer component. Is Killzone 2 going to gain the ability to launch from Home?

Devs have said that it takes them at least 6 months of having features in hand to implement widely. Prior to release of a game that is. So we will see more and more come with it, but you cant force games that are in development to adopt something like that.
Sony has said many times that they will not force things onto developers unless they have to (trophies). And even then its with a lot of heads up time.

I would love a lot of the PSN games to have it. Wipeout, Burnout, Kung Fu, HVB, PAIN... Makes it easy to hop into somehting without getting up to fumble with discs.

I totally understand what you're saying. I was speaking specifically of Sony published games.

How can they ask for 30fps when they can't even manage it themselves? The EU Home Square lags like a bitch.

Doesn't for me. The only time I've seen framerate issues outside of the Socom room (I have access to EU and US Home) is when it is downloading the videos played on the virtual screens. Once they are downloaded it runs smoothly.

Accurate reproduction of game performance. Actually, I think the Home space looks better than the actual game.

Yup but its not fun as the game nor runs as smooth as Socom does now. That space needs some serious tweaking.

You're wrong. I don't know when you last played Socom but it runs very smoothly. Tearing can be found with high player counts but in 4vs4 games tearing is rare. Framerate in the beta was all over the place.

I know. I was exaggerating just to make fun of the game.

Oh.

...

Infamous site is nice. A first I thought it was going to suffer the framerate problems the Socom site has but it was caused by the video download. After that it was all good with only tiny drops here and there.

Siren space looks fantastic but I've never been able to get into the 'game'. So frustrating.

I finally realized by searching online that you just need to have the Siren game selected on your screen with the "this game is occupied" message there. Just keep that screen up and within 5 or so minutes it should light up and say "Play". Then be quick and select it. I was finally able to give it a shot but died pretty quickly.

Infamous space contains an easy minigame that rewards you with the trish outfit(male version also lol) and a figure for your apartment. only bad thing is that the rewards are buggy since the scoreboards arent functioning properly.

The EA space got a golfing minigame too with its own rewards.

Also add Far Cry 2 to the list. It got a patch to add game launching.

So current list is then:

Warhawk
Resistance 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Resident Evil 5
SOCOM: Confrontation
Street Fighter 4
Crash Commando
FarCry 2

Cool.

I was in Home earlier today. It's interesting to see how far it has come since it launched in December.

Motorstorm doesn't work yet, at least in the EU it doesn't.

I've downloaded Home and deleted it many times but I'm actually kind of enjoying it now. Are they ever going to add new arcade games?

There are a bunch in the Xi space you probably never visited. It's accessible via the World Map. Once in the Hub, use the teleporter to get to the gaming area.

Like what? I've been there about a month ago. I thought the text adventure was fun but the driving game was terrible. Is it different now?

I meant the bowling alley btw. I should have said that. :D

It the same. There is also that time attack mini-games collection. But if you already played this, then no, there is little more you could do besides the RedBull stuff and the inFamous and Resistance 2 spaces games. Oh, you might want to check the Siren space as well.

Forgot the EA space. Racing game is horrible but poker is... well, poker.

How come every time I go to the EA space I have to re-download it? Its a pain in the ass....

They have recently added 2 racing game set ups (4 total now) and moved poker to the second floor. That's why you had to redownload it I guess.

I hope they add more user generated content. The Graffiti is kinda interesting but it's too lonely. Controller UI is too weird for content creation.

They should allow importing media from PC, or may be create a new create/edit tool using the upcoming motion sensing controller. Best is to create a mouse mode for the controller.

Socom doesnt have game launching. it was a promised feature guy unless patch 1.4 has it which i doubt.

In my opinion besides Game Launching this this one of the major features which would really drive home. If you could get something special for a platinum or a free PSN game for all Trophy Level 13 ppl for example (or one year free Qore for level 20). Some ppl already buy/rent every shitty PS3 game (Hannah Montana...) just for the Trophies. Such a reward system would sell some extra copies.
