XIII apartment is free download until 01/14/2010

Honestly, this sort of thing (Sodium) is what I've been wanting from Home for a while. I know, I know, Micro transactions, but really? I real game (or game with real scope rather) within Home? A persistent game space that evolves? Sign me the fuck up. If I don't like it I won't pay for anything, but the fact that this level of commitment is finally starting makes me very happy.

Also, I couldn't find the free island apartment.

EDIT: That FFXIII area looks incredible.

So I've registered with Sodium, but is anyone else having a problem with it? I can register just fine, I used the in game code they gave me, and received an activtation e-mail to my personal e-mail. But when you do the whole:

Thank you for registering, there's just one more step to complete before you're good to go!

All you need to do is follow this link and follow the on screen instructions.

If for some reason you can't click the link above, copy and paste the following into your web browser:

it only ever loads up a blank page.

Sodium is pretty cool. Minus the mass spam to your PS3 friendlist for "gift friends."

US's christmas tree is still doing "BUY OUR SHIT" for items. It's sad, really.

I'm pretty happy with the update, otherwise.

How do you region hop? I want to get the FFXIII apartment and Toro item since I know SCEA isn't going to fucking give us Toro (or the cardboard boxes for "Torostation News") and Square will be asses and take forever with FFXIII US Home, I'm sure.

Sodium is pretty amazing (for an Home based game that is). There is a lot of stuff to customize your vehicle with, from weapons (repeaters, cannons, homing missiles) to anti-AA modules to auto repair and so on and every equipment you buy does actually show up on the 3D model of the craft. Very nice dedicated interface as well.

During combat u collect stuff to spend for upgrades and get new equipment every time you pass a level. You also get some minerals to be sold at the female robot shopper and use the virtual money to buy avatar clothes and stuff. There is also cool neon-lit furniture to be purchased (with real money). It's really packed with content. Oh, and there's also a minigame where you have to walk around in the sand stomping bugs coming out. :lol

A free-upon-registering Facebook application allows to check leaderboards via browser.

Game is very smooth as well since it's basically played alone against AI (tutorial arena got me worried cos it runs like crap, but that's because it's built within the main area, with people around it), with some nice visual effects. You can't play the whole thing unless you buy (can't progress past Level 5 - it's 4,99 dollars). Which is what I'm gonna do right away.

Home needs more of this.

So from the sounds of things Sodium is a new platform for a whole series of social games. I'd never heard of it before today.

From the EU Blog:

A new benchmark for social gaming in general and a huge leap forward in terms of content for PlayStation Home, Sodium will launch with an explosive arcade game known as SodiumOne

According to the Gamasutra article, Sodium 2 is already on development.
So you really like it huh? Gonna try it later today.

I agree. I'm really impressed.

Just "bought" the FFXIII Personal Space with my japanese PSN account.

It looks awesome. There's a TV that just shows a black screen (for me, at least), and it's pretty small. I'll gladly fill it with FFXIII furniture, haha.

Some screens I took:

Not to derail (Sodium looks cool) but does anyone know when we are expected to see more furniture items?

I remember all of the PR for home saying stuff about how you could place a Bravia tv in your homespace...etc..

They need to make a FarmVille killer where it's the same premise of FarmVille but at a close up 3rd person camera style where you control the farmer. People would buy PS3s just for it!

I don't know about all that, but it would be a great way to bring more people into Home and more revenue along with it.

Basically.

I was going to post some impressions, but I guess I'll just go ahead and create a topic for the new Space. It deserves it.

just visited the japanese home area. fuck, there is a football stadium. it looks awesome. but i have no clue what it's about. too bad you can't go on the pitch :(

Man, the more cool stuff comes out for Home, the more I absolutely hate how the avatars look. If they had a little more mii/avatar feel to them, little more life, or something. I don't know, the ideas there, and now these spaces are coming along nicely, but the models of the characters really hold me back. That and it's so sluggish. If the modeling animation or something was better, and more of the stuff like Sodium rolling in, I'd love it.

Always thought it would be cool to have an open area that you can fight mobs in, like a mini mmo side to it. I love grinding. =)

how are you guys getting onto Japan Home? Logging in via a Japan account or something? I thought it restricted by IP?

No, it isn't. Just log in via a JPN account and you get there.

It's only restricted by account no IP, but you can't buy anything without JP PSN cash.

So basically, I can login with my Japan account. Then switch to my US and be in the Japan home? o_O How the hell was people getting the reward items from Japan home with their US accounts?

Edit: Wow, Japan's central plaza kicks the shit out of US Home's. I kinda wish I could move my US account over, if only so I can have the Disgaea 3 Prinny trophies from Disgaea 3 Blu-ray rewards and Toro. :lol

Home has really evolved, a lot of stuff to do now....I wouldn't mind logging on everytime I turn on my PS3 but it still takes forever to load up. Any chance of it getting faster or is this as good as it's gonna get?

No. You can't do that. You need to stay logged in with your Japanese account and content "sharing" between accounts has been axed.

What happens in Home [Region Here] stays in Home [Region Here].

That's honestly the most important thing that needs to be addressed at the moment. They could make it faster by simply streamlining the log in process (which currently asks you to press X like 1000 times), but of course there is room for improvements elsewhere (optimized netcode, faster servers, slicker user interface etc)

Lame. I really want the Toro item on my US/main account. :(

after the whole 12gb cache fiasco, i really doubt their ability to make it load that much faster

although things like checking ur purchases really should take 1/3 less time than it does now, if not instantaneously

What's this about? I have it enabled but I don't really notice it doing anything.

It was supposed to make Home load faster. It didn't. Natch.

Wow, Home in Japan is limited in areas, but for the most part the stuff they have kicks the shit out of the US with quality. I'm pissed that they get Disgaea 3 shirts and a NISJ area with Prinnies and stuff, but the US is high and dry. I bet NISJ is cock-blocking NISA from releasing Disgaea 3 stuff in the US. Lame. :/

the opposite happened, even, stuffs loaded slower :lol

switching back to 3gb made the loading seem so much faster, so they sorta accomplished their objective >.>;

This. So wait, switcing back to 3gb makes it faster? I put in on 12 and left it there.

And what is actually out in US? Sodium, and FF13 but not Audi?

Only Sodium. FF13 is JP only, and Audi is EU only.

EU home must be getting hammered. Checked the winter wonderland space earlier and it was completely packed with people. Now I can't get on or get booted off after a few minutes.

It's probably US people because US Home's Christmas is shit sucks compared to Japan/HK/EU.

Yeah, I randomly jumped in today and ended up spending two hours just browsing some of the areas. The place is pretty cool now.

Ahh, so where do we go for the more representative build of the game?

There's a portal like wormhole in the space, like the one that you came in on. It loads you into a personal space that's given to you when you enter Sodium.

Any level other than the tutorial. 1-5 are free.

Also, what is the financial commitment to this? Will $5 cover it, or is microtransaction hell inside the full game as well? And will the $5 net you some unlockable clothes/items as well, or just more levels?

Just more levels (all 50 of them, no microtransaction hell) and a jacket. By playing the game (as well as earning "achievements" in the main SodiumOne space) you collect virtual currency to buy some clothes (hats and t-shirts IIRC).

It was so packed for me earlier that I couldn't speak to the elf in the winter wonderland space, get to the consoles to begin the Audi race or even get a deep look around Sodium. I'm glad people are using the service though, its much much better than the media make out.

(cut for length)

Yeah, I really enjoyed it. It remind me of tunnel B1 for PS1 in style. I finished it and enjoy the upgrade feature. I saw your name on the leader board (Bloody_Marcel sp). Gratz
