PS3 Home Official Thread

Yeah that new indie game announcement was weird in a way, they had a guy talking in an interview recently all about trophy stuff, then hinted at something coming to Home that would be announced on Monday. Everyone thought it would be trophy related (trophy room, anyone?) but alas, no.

There's a TON of neat personal spaces, but at $5.00 a pop it's a bit absurd. They'd probably sell a shitload more than they are if the prices came down a by a few bucks.

I dropped into Home the other day to check out The Midway and Wipeout spaces. I love Wipeout, so it was a neat, if brief, walk through some of that history. The Midway was nothing but people bitching about having to pay for those shitty minigames they had in there, and I can't say I blame them. Who the fuck would pay per play to do that "test your strength" hammer game?

Isn't it 0.99 dollars for 90 50 (thanks darkwing) tickets or something? I think it's quite honest pricing considering you also get item prizes.

I think the spaces are getting better. Early on at $5 with nothing in them it was stupid. But more recent spaces come with 1-2 minigames which award items, so really for $5 or so dollars you get a space, games and items.

As to Midway, the best would have been to give out 10-20 tickets to everyone who first walks in and then charge for more. Though you get 50 tickets for $1 as TTP said, and from the forums it seems you can end up getting all the items and everything for about $5 total if you know what you are doing.

You can play the (/some?) games in Midway for free but it's only a very short period of time + random. They announce which game is free via popup IIRC.
It's enough to try them out and I even won a T shirt.

Just picked up a PS3 over the weekend, and I'm almost ashamed to admit how much time I spent doing nothing but gawking at virtual items for my apartment! Can't help but feel like they're on the cusp of something pretty awesome here, but not quite there yet.

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/07/21/playstation-home-mystery-of-the-wise-man/

Not a very content-rich update this week.

Over the coming weeks your Home Square will take on a new look as the current mini-games make way for a new series of features and mini-games.
Our first such change will happen this week, with Shooting Hoops making way for a visit from a wise old man. Those who approach the wise man may be gifted with a cryptic message in the form of a philosophical saying. Can you decipher the mystery of the wise man?

I'm getting Sodium One newsletters that don't interest me at all, but for weeks I've tried clicking the Unsubscribe links in each one, but it just takes me to a 404 page.

Ugh, I really hate being reminded that this low-budget shit exists, arrgh

I decided to go Home today out of boredom, and because that I haven't been there in months. The playground is pretty cool, and I was surprised at the amount of spaces now. They've added so much since I was there the last time.

PPC made the live-action promotional video that's been running in Home for a while now.

“We have been very excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to create and produce a promotional video for their community-based social gaming networking service ‘Playstation Home’ on PS3.

As recognised ‘Home’ developers we have been working ‘in-world’ with Sony for some time, creating branded avatars, hosting special events and providing video materials; and this video has been produced as a promotional tool to introduce the un-initiated into Sony’s expansive virtual world.

Shot in East London the video mixes live action and 3D computer graphics to communicate what ‘Home’ is and gives viewers a taste of the experience it offers.

The video is viewable on the site if you haven't seen it already.

I found this interesting: Japan now has a bigger presence in the Home MMO Sodium than the UK:

News Update: Japan region has replaced UK in 2nd place on the #sodiumone regional leaderboard. Is the US reign about to end?

Japan goes crazy over butt nekkid cyborg women, no surprise there.

I wonder if Sony will ever release the total revenue Home makes. I imagine with Sodium, the shopping centre and the Midway space its now taking in a lot of money. We know they made a lot from the easter bunny and santa outfits. About 60% of the people I saw in Home around those festive times were wearing them.

We should get our next big batch of Home stuff at Sony's Gamescom conference, although last year they announced shrinking potions and those never happened.

I think Sony makes a good amount from Home. Everytime I visit Home I see people running around in clothes they pay real money for and they're not exactly cheap. :P Especially not once you get the whole set, I mean how much does it cost to create those virtual items?

Can't be too much. Once you have the template for a T-shirt, you can just change the design and whatnot. I think Jack Buser said that every item in Home is profitable. Clearly it has high profit margins.

I'm suprised that they don't actually have more clothing released more regularly. If they had a largeish once a month clothing update, they'd make more money. If something is regularly occuring, people will remember that and will come back. Not knowing when random food parcels will drop gives people more incentive to not come back for a while.

Meh, the free Star Wars items aren't that great. :/ I kinda expected more from LucasArts. :/

The Stormtrooper one is alright and a given. But what are you expecting? Vader would be nice, but can only be one Vader...

Would like Darth Maul outfit or just the double red lightsaber. I'd pay for that.:lol

That's what I was talking about. And it's pretty lame. I expected something more from LucasArts.

They should realese the virtual tv for people to place in their own space. They don't need to allow users to play stuff from their HDD but they could use it to show live stream from events like Games Com or E3. That way you could invite your friends and watch the stream with them without a bunch of other users spamming the chatbox and you would be able to use voicechat.

Agreed. Huge missed opportunity. :(

Or it could have been:

Girl, aged 11: "Mommy, can I send my picture to this guy I'm dating on PS Home?"
Mom: "What?? No, are you crazy? What did mom and dad tell you about this. Delete him immediately or no more Home for you."

(I mean, from the OP he seems to have about that mental age ... )
