Look at this year, Xbox - even though its on its final legs - has 3 major 3rd party exclusives the PS3 doesn't have: Half Life 2, Doom 3, Farcry Instincts. It is a fallacy to assume both systems will have all the same games. There will be a large number of distinct, high profile titles exclusive to each system.
So my next gen combo right now is PS3 and X360. Sony has done a great job as a publisher over the Playstation and now Playstation 2 era, and I expect this to happen with PS3. Sony is racking up one hell of a development support base of their own. Personally, I think Sony has surpassed Nintendo as a first party publisher for games. For this reason alone I'll pick up a PS3 for their first party releases. Heavenly Sword and Warhawk yummm. Oh, and MGS4 and DMC4.
Having said this, I'll probably pick up a Revolution when the price is right to see what the fuss is about. I.E. 99 bucks.

Juice said:If you had to choose any two systems from three, where two of them followed an extremely similar paradigm with an 80% port rate of big-money games, why would you pick the two similar ones over the better of the similars (PS3) and the one that offers some variety (Rev)?
Variety is good.

I think the rationale behind why so many people are declaring PS3 + Rev as the new two console future is pretty damn clear.

Juice said:You know, maybe it's that both of their controller's layouts are nearly the goddamn exact same thing as the last generation. Or maybe it's that their new consoles focus on nothing but faster specs. Or maybe it's that there have been and will be so many more mergers in an increasingly low-margin industry that every game that can be played on two systems should be designed multi-platform.
You put an X360, a PS3, and a Rev next to each other and I think there's a pretty clear fucking difference as to which one is the odd one out.

Plus, the underdog can surprise you with support.. But I agree that "X console" with Revolution is a better combo than PS3/360.
However, I thought Xbox/Gamecube was a great combination this generation, because it really covered a lot of genres and offered great graphics and online at the same time.

xabre said:And what the fuck have you offered to the discussion?
Anyway Rev and probably PS3 at this point.
Juice said:I'm a moron for saying that the PS3 is going to be a stronger platform than the Xbox 360?
Redbeard said:Yes, you are. It's your platform of choice, not the "stronger" one.
Redbeard said:You buy the systems that have the games you like, period. Anyone deciphering which combo is objectively "for the win" before any of them are even out (and before they've even seen any games for the Revolution) is a fucking moron.
Juice said:Kid A ends up with less good games to play than Kid B.
and Microsoft's failed to find a reason to make it appealing to anyone without an HDTV and nothing to do on the weekends.
Mrbob said:I'm saying Sony is a better first party publisher than Nintendo now, and publishes more types of games *I'm* interested in. This is my reasoning for getting a PS3 instead of the Revolution as a two console combo punch. Plus the PS3 will get high profile releases like MGS4, DMC4. FF13 and Dragon Quest 9 will follow. Playstation 3 will get the big boys.
At the moment, Xbox 360 control pad is clearly ahead of the boomerang and it looks much more comfortable than swinging around a remote control. Why redesign the S pad anyway? With some subtle changes the X360 controller is officially the best next gen controller to game on. Maybe you think slashing yourself is cool, but it is the same shit repackaged in a new format. That isn't too exciting to me.
As for your last statement, I agree. Variety is good. I want the highest number of quality games to buy so this is why I'll be getting a PS3 and X360 off the bat. I'm not going to cry about missing the occasional Revolution big release like I didn't care missing the occasional Gamecube big release. Besides, I'll buy a Revolution eventually just like I bought a Gamecube eventually. We'll see if the Revolution has enough pull for me to keep it, unlike Gamecube.
I won't buy a system based on controller design alone. Otherwise I wouldn't be getting a PLAYSTATION 3.

---- said:Yes Rev + PS3 for the win, cause as we know winners are the people who don't get to play Halo 3.
Monk said:I think you are looking at this wrong. Think of it more like the eyetoy with more dev support.
Slo said:Stop saying that, you're making me lose interest. Eyetoy games are just the kind of crap that I'm afraid will flood the Rev library. I don't want to wack ninjas out of the air or block imaginary soccer balls with my elbows. Give me real games please.
one game? that's it?---- said:Yes Rev + PS3 for the win, cause as we know winners are the people who don't get to play Halo 3.
:lol
BuzzJive said:Revolution is really the only key factor in the winning combo. 360 and PS3 still seem pretty interchangeable.
Monk said:If you dont like new kinds of games then you can stick with the other two. Thats why they are there.
