PS3: No standard memory card slots?

Sorry if old, no search and all - but how are we supposed to go all BC with older games if the system is lacking a standard memory card slot?

Probabaly just going to emulate a memory card on a memory stick is what people are thinking.

I would prefer a memory card slot personally.

What I'm wondering is, how will we be able to get our saves from PS1/PS2 memory cards onto memory sticks? Obviously there are workarounds, but nothing I can imagine that would be made "official" by Sony.

Maybe future PSP firmware will enable it to connect to a PS2 and copy saves from your memory cards? That would probably be Sony's solution; "sorry, you need to own a PSP to use your old gamesaves!"

I'm more wondering about playing PS2 games on the sucker - limited shelf space and all - and I have a half-dozen memory cards. How will I transfer the files over? Perhaps Sony will sell a USB adapter or something...

The PS3 has USB ports right? Maybe there will be some sort of transfer software on the PS3. Or if you can hook up your PSP to the PS2 and wirelessly transmit it to the PS3.

Speaking of which, where do you insert the memory sticks? Am I just blind? All I see on the front of the system are four USB slots and the power button. Does that section next to the disc drive lift up or something?
