PS3 Purchasing, Dodgy or Trustworthy? (Brit Bloke Buying)

Right, I know now I must get to the point and buy myself a PS3. Of course for MGS4, however I'm stuck for choosing. Just to point out this isn't a thread to choose between the 80GB or Gun metal or whatever as I can't afford any of those. My budget is £265 :(

Now, my question I am asking is regarding the purchase of one of these two. A Preowned 40GB from my local GAME store or this one I found on eBay.

You see how shite it be for me to get a PS3. Well my issue with the Preowned is that is £250 and of course preowned, but I do get a year warranty from both GAME and Sony. As for the eBay one, its a NTSC console but sold in the UK so no risk of tax with Sony warranty all for £229.50 inc P+P. My concern however for this eBay one is the message about Paypal...quote

Attention due to new PayPal rules we can post your item only after we receive positive feedback from You, so if you will pay with paypal you need to leave feedback straight away after payment or your payment will reversed and transaction cancelled i know this sound weird but for us new PayPal rules sounds much more weird and we don't have any willing to wait 21 days before get our money, so feedback in advance or no bidding please!
Now, that seems weird give positive feedback as soon as I pay? Dodgy? But my faith does go into the fact of all the positive feedback this seller does have as well as being a Power Seller. Possibly Trustworthy?

So GAF! Share me your advice which one should I go for? Advice is all that is needed...Thanks in advance.

I sell a lot of items on Ebay and always leave positive feedback for my buyers the second they pay, so that part isnt dodgy at all.

Oh after reading it again hes asking for positive feedback as soon as YOU pay that is dodgy I would steer clear.

I would personally avoid the ebay deal and possibly just save up a little more. I know that's an annoying answer, but honestly, sometimes it's just worth waiting a little longer. I'm doing the same right now. I can afford a 40gb but I would much rather save and get the MGS4 bundle. BC and a game coming with is definitely worth it.

if you read some of the sellers feedback it's no wonder s/he wants a positive left right away...

i wouldn't touch that auction. just buy the preowned one at GAME

I know at the most I'm nudging towards getting the one from GAME. Annoyingly all I have as said is about £265 for a PS3 and then I have £40 put save for MGS4. So it is awkward for me to have any chance of getting a brand new PS3 with MGS4. Unless theres a bundle deal for exactly £305!

Yeah, not trustworthy at all.

Paypal rules didn't changed at all.
It's the eBay feedback that's changed.

Now it's not possible for eBay SELLERS to give negative feedback to BUYERS.
But of course buyers are still able to give negative feedback without worrying about retaliation from the Seller. That's why this guy wants you to give him a positive feedback first, so if he doesn't send you the PS3, he still has your positive feedback.

better be safe than sorry. i would say go for the one at ur local store. that what i would do if i was in ur place. for the warranty AND to feel safe, i would gladly take the one at local store. at least i know my system is covered under warranty, this alone means much to me.

your money is important. don't risk it.

just wait...mgs4 wont disappear from earth after a week...get a full new system when u had the enough money it will worth the relief of getting a clear ps3 lol...
tho if u ask my real opinion i am type of guy who never makes price research and buy at the first chance! hahah i hate waiting!!!!

My sources tell me over messenger (Kazenone :D) that there is actually a MGS4 Bundle for UK?? But its like all the others? You know 40GB, Sixaxis + MGS4 (damn SCEE) Is it true? Possible price the same as the GT5 one?

I was in a similar situation PS3-wise. I ended up buying a 2nd hand 40GB console with 2 games for £240 on another forum. I've always had minimal problems with 2nd hand stuff and my wallet is happy with the extra cash saved.

I can see the listing you're referring to and what's quoted does sound really dodgy but the seller does have a lot of positive feedback and they're selling other hardware regularly to happy customers. I'd buy from the dude if I was looking for one at that price. But at the end of the day, if you're one to worry about warranties and whatnot just go get the one from Game.

Interesting, I just recieved an e-mail from the ebay seller, a Mr Shahzad Khan and he says the whole reason for this for immediate positive feedback is because of this; qouting from PayPal official information when using ebay...

What will happen if my payment is held?
If you receive a payment that is held by PayPal, the amounts held will show as “Pending” in a separate PayPal balance on your account page. You will still have access to all other funds in your PayPal account.

Your funds will immediately be released when one of the following occurs:

The buyer leaves you positive feedback
21 days pass without a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal filed on the transaction.
If you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the hold, PayPal may hold the payment in your Account until the matter is resolved, even if the claim, chargeback or reversal is made after the hold is released.

So he's saying when I make a payment through Paypal it'll be held? Until either 21 days pass or I give him Positive feedback. Could this then make this Mr Khan a trustworthy seller?

Maybe you want to get this. From Official MGS4 thread

Yes, Paypal has this bullshit policy in place, because they are a bunch of uncle fuckers.

The policy is to protect paypal against unreliable sellers with high volumes of chargebacks and fraudsters. Basically anyone can sign up for a paypal account, so if someone is selling fairly high value items, or has a newish account, they hold the money for a cooling off period of three weeks. If the buyer leaves positive feedback, it is likely that the retailer has provided the item correctly and is legitimate - hence the funds are released.

If the seller is confident in his ability to provide the item, he will not make the unreasonable demand of asking a buyer for positive feedback ahead of the sale being completed successfully. There are plenty bargains to be had on ebay, but this is a red flag when you consider you are spending over £200.
