Given that bluray movies on PS3 will have different geographical region allocation compared to DVD and that Japan and the US will share the same region.

Does anyone know if the games will be the same?

im looking into this too. i think i remember hearing somewhere that there no region code for games.... not sure though... I hope it's import friendly because i might be going to japan this spring...

I sincerely hope the system will be region free for games, but it would be the first major non-handheld console to be that way, so it doesn't really seem too likely.

Regions will probably depend on the media, so any blu-ray games will be region locked to the new regions.


Sony did say they wouldnt region lock games (i think) but thats just the same as MS with Xbox and 360, it will be up to the publishers, most of whom will region lock.

Didn't Kuturagi apologice this spring(before PS3 revealing) about having region coded their games in the past aswell as there being in Sony spokesman this summer/autumn saying that the PS3 would most likely be region free gamewise?

Oh man, i hope it's just like PSP at the moment -> No region lock for games. Region lock for UMD movies.

I need PS3 to be NOT region locked, otherwise I'll order an US PS3, EU sucks.. ><

Yet THEY are the ones trying to ban importing and such. Just a funny observation.

I don't think mass-importing is what they had in mind for the PSP. More like giving the customer the ability to safely purchase (playable) games while travelling.

I'll be getting a region 2 PS3 cause there's no way i'm getting stuck with Euro pricing for Bluray movies. Plus the extra wait etc...
