PS3 will invariably have a poor launch line up

But will the fact that it will be one of the first (if not the only) sub $400 HD movie players be its saving grace?

I'm looking at the PS2 launches (Japan and US) which were pretty sparse but the DVD playback was a big feature which got mentioned a lot in the press as a reason to buy.

Now looking at the X360 launch, there is nothing but the games to focus on (since DVD players are ubiquitous now) and there seems to be a mixed reaction in the press which I wasn't expecting for a next gen piece of hardware especially considering MS' marketing muscle.

Are we going to be seeing more mentions of Blu-Ray than games when the PS3 launches? I'm beginning to think so.

How much is the Revolution going to cost? And what will the launch lineup be like?

For real though... I thought the PS2 launch sucked ass. Hopefully the PS3 does better.

FLAME ON!

Perhaps poor wasn't the word I should have used - 'average' would have been better :D

Anyway the point is I think the PS3 is going to get A LOT of positive press because of it's BRD playback and won't need to rely on a stellar launch line up to push hardware.

I think we'll see the same as the 360 to be honest, annual sports titles (though they will benefit from being the second next-gen installments) multiplatform sequels and a handful of first-party and exclusive games.

Actually I think MS have helped Sony get a reasonble launch line up.

360 launch has gotten at least some publishers up to speed (not necessarily full speed) so that will help in terms of getting ready for 'next gen'

Plus these days you have the usual suspects who can be relied on to roll out the usual franchise suspects - Tony hawk, EA sports/NFS etc

If it launches worldwide will depend on western franchises. If they are ready it'll launch. If not, then Japan will get the usual shit (Some hot Namco lovin and a couple of mah jong games) and they'll lap it up as usual.

Agreed.

The first platform out has the toughest time with launch titles. PS3 will benefit from EA, Activision, Take-Two, Ubisoft, all being up to speed. And then add in the Japanese support and first party titles and it should be fine.

It hasnt worked out that way for any 3d console so far, you could say the N64 benefitted from the PS1 blazing the trail in 3d games, thats about it.

I-8, Heavenly Sword & Warhawk wants your name.

Yes, I can also see into the future. These are the launch games. Maybe a WipEout aswell.

Warhawks probably the most likely of those to make it out. Add a Tekken and i'm cool with the launch.

Every console launch is a next gen launch...PS2 included ;)

I expect it to be more exciting than the 360 launch line-up. Not that it takes much.

Man, the OP is so unsubstantiated I feel dizzy thinking about it.

Look at the NA PSP launch. Sony may have learned their lesson. Actually, they would probably be better off spreading some of those games out for slower times.

the quality of launch lineups is in fact variable, and you have no idea what the ps3's will be like. fanboy talking points are in a way consistent, though, and i'm sure ps3 will be the subject of the same "lol at least it plays movies" rubbish that met ps2 and psp.

Cartridge (and lack of middleware) killed any easy PS1 port. Meanwhile PS3 has way more space than X360 (and every big publisher use middleware).

Add all the non-exclusive 360 games + First party games + third party exclusive games + Sony "Hype machine"© + BR compatibility + PSone/PSTwo compatibility = successful launch

It will have a far better launch than the ps2.

That's not saying much actually.

I think it's funny that anyone here knows how good the launch line up will be. Can I borrow your crystal ball?

SSX and Tekken tag fucking owned.

Then my PS2 ate my tekken disc and the GC dropped with monkeyball and that was enough for a fuckoff sony.

anyway, I have faith in the launch of both rev and Ps3 based on last gens launch support.

yeah, dont forget to add all the xbox360 ports of games from sega, ea, thq and so on. they will be all on ps3 too....at launch. this strategy proved sucessfull back when the xbox1 startet and many publishers ported their games with little extra content to the ms console.
