hi guys
i'm valuating a couple of ps4 used offers atm, and i'm seeing a lot of 500GB or 1TB models, but what the 1TB ps4 hard drive really is?

i mean, is it the 500GB one with the firmware update, or there were also real 1TB models?

also, reading online seems that 'upgrade' can lead to some issues, is it true?

Pretty sure all variants of the PS4 had a 1TB version, so it could be 1TB from the factory or someone upgraded the hard drive. Shouldn't be any issues though. I think the max capacity was 8GB for the internal drive.

There were 1TB models later in its life. The 500GB ones are likely older. Keep in mind the PS4 has a user upgradeable HDD so with second hand they may have installed the 1 TB themselves on an older PS4.

That's not true. Launch PS5s had 500GB if I remember correctly.

I put a 1TB hdd in my launch ps4. Pretty easy steps, then put the 500gb ps4 hdd into an external USB case.
From what I recall, you make sure firmware is current, make a backup, format a usb drive (fat32 i believe) then install the OS.

Launch period was 500gb - got mine few months after launch, but people easily change for 1tb. Games got way too big quickly
