PS4, duh. Xbox... umm... 720?

Just call it Xbox Live

Given that I think Microsoft will offer an iterative approach next gen and just stagger things (yeah, I know, I'm crazy), I'm damn near certain this will be the name. However, I wouldn't count on the PlayStation 4 being the name the next time around. They may well just dub it it "PlayStation" and leave it at that.

But again, I'm crazy.

[edit] Jeezus fuck, this entire thread is nothing but smart-assed replies, one after another. It's one of the single biggest reasons why this place is a shithole; a mass of people all trying to get someone to post a string of shitty laughing smilies as their sole response.

:lol :lol :lol :lol

Seriously though, do you expect 4 pages of serious thought out ideas? The name is to unpredictable for that.

They'll reboot the franchise and simply call it "Xbox," with according brand extensions to other devices and software platforms, allowing Microsoft to extend synergies across its entire product line and leverage monetizations through virality and the social web.

I guess I kinda expected some attempts at things. That was the whole point of the thread, I thought. This would normally be the point in the lifespan where we started concocting ideas for future system names. Xbox Next was kinda the unofficial moniker of the 360 at this point in the original system's demand, it's not unfair to imagine people would try to figure out the next .

Hell, the whole "360" thing was based on pure buzzword association research, and Microsoft was hardly alone; CNN and Yahoo immediately spring to mind.

because they've totally focussed their video game console market on synergizing their entire product line, right?

oh wait, the only crossover they've experimented with is their failed Zune project, which was headed by the former head of the Xbox division.

but yeah, expect the new xbox to boot Windows 7 natively and run .exe files..

I guess my post was a success.

Xbox 4US.
Not bad, that's clever. I like 4ALL too.

A lot of people don't realize that 360 was chosen because of that little 3, while Xbox 2 would sound like a generation behind the PS3.

A midlife restyled version of the 360 (slim?) would give the next Xbox the legitimacy to be simply called the Xbox 4, I was kinda expecting that tbh.

I was just thinking about what the next Microsoft Box will be called... I mean, 720 sounds pretty dumb, and later, 1080 will sound even worse. Any rumors/ideas/news on this front?

I believe Microsoft will give up the Xbox brand as they go for the more lucrative and larger casual crowd (not to say they will give up the Halos). Xbox sounds too masculine and unwelcoming. It will be called Us or WeGame or something like that. They want their console to have a wide appeal image. They are already trying to do that with Natal which will end up being named Fun Cam or something like that.

Indeed!

Even though I actually believe there is a ring of truth to it.

Microsoft will eventually tie Surface, Natal, Muscle, Traditional interface design philosophies together. Something that recognizes the future of ubiquitous computing.

That will come with a new branding. Something like Microsoft Everyware.

The console will be Playware.
The PC will be Workware.

etc etc

That's not nearly enough upward momentum on the paradigm-shifting marketplace that is our real-time social infrastructure, dude. Clearly they'll call it X, release it six months before they announce it to capitalize on viral marketshare synergy, re-launch the brand with a new sub-marketing approach and revitalize our collective active lifestyles to initiate global realization of their corporate memes with a hip new angle that focuses on the urban youth lifestyWHATTHEFUCKJUSTHAPPENED?!

They should go for sex appeal and call it the Sexbox 690.

Edit: Goddammit got beaten on the first page. That's what I get for not reading the thread.

I was thinking about that just the other day. Nintendo and Sega were pretty ballsy to change their game console machine almost every iteration D:

The slim version of the Xbox would be *something* 360. The next gen Microsoft console will be the *something* 2.

Flawless way to drop the Xbox name and launch a new console with a recognized brand name.

My money is on them giving it the 'Live' moniker. Its going to be more of a networked service than a fixed piece of hw so thats my guess. Next XBox will be called 'Live'. No reference to either natal or xbox.

Xbox Snow Leopard. Steve Jobs to the rescue!

But really, my guess is that they'll drop the # system and go with something revolutionary.
