So what? Is that all that you've got?

I'm more curious about what the plan is for the Wii, actually. It's been a while since there was last a Nintendo console name that they'd actually want to hang onto, so I'd be surprised if the followon wasn't in some way derived from Wii. Everyone says WiiHD, but that sounds too pedestrian.

I wonder if Nintendo will go completely classic, and release the Super Wii.

They didn't want to put "XBox 2" up against "Playstation 3." By naming it "XBox 360," you have a "3" in the title as well.
That is a compelling argument.

Wii Plus

ZuneBox, Zune360, Zuneplay -> for the Zune brand integration

or.. XBOX1080 actually makes sense. They can market something like "ALL GAMES ARE 1080P on XBOX1080!" it only does 1080 etc

I think that they're gonna try and drop xbox and keep live as the primary brand in their games division. That said, they're calling the games section of windows 7 phones xbox live.

Since it's the end of the 15-year business model or whatever, Xbox Final.

Then the next thing they do after that can be called something else. Walkman or something.

The bigger question lies with Nintendo. Will they continue with Wii? Will they go with something else? Who knows!?!

It'll be whatever gives them an psychological edge over their competitors... if ps4 is called ps4, then my bet is on x420. Although, that might have unwanted connotations.

XboxPS5 it is then.

I was sure with how the 360 doesn't have any 1st party studios left that Microsoft was going 3rd party only now. At least that's the vibe I get from this forum.

Xbox 5

Makes it seem a generation more advanced than the PS4.
From 357 generations ahead to 1 generation ahead makes it seem like they are losing ground fast though.

The Xbox 360 was named because Microsoft wanted to have a "3" in the title so it competes better with the Playstation 3.

So Xbox 420?

I really think they will call it something along Xbox 64-bit or Xbox Rox, but my senses say they will call it completely different from xbox and add Microsoft Label to it.

Wii Supreme!*

With Launch Month Sponser Taco Bell helping Nintendo sell to the "Mountain Dew/D:MSIFUSIHTS/SY2ISUDT" Gamer!!!

*comes with sour cream and tomatoes!

Is Playstation 4 a given anyway? Playstation 1 -> 2 -> 3 were obvious because of the strength of the brand and because people wanted an iterative step. For Sony's next console they may want a reboot of sorts, keeping the Playstation name but making it clear this isn't just a linear advance.

Why does MS have to stay with something divisible with 360?

Maybe...
xbox 1000
xbox 500

Microsoft could also move away from numbers.

Xbox Homelive
Xbox gamalon
Xbox xtreme

I was just thinking about what the next Microsoft Box will be called... I mean, 720 sounds pretty dumb, and later, 1080 will sound even worse. Any rumors/ideas/news on this front?
Lets face it, Xbox is a completely and utterly horrible name for anything, especially a gaming console. Despite this, Microsoft were able to top it as the stupidity of the name Xbox pales in comparison to the name Xbox 360. My point is that good names aren't exactly on high Microsoft's list of things to do when making a new console, it's down the bottom hanging out with reliable hardware and good d-pad.

I can only assume the next iteration of the Xbox will continue the trend of trying as hard as it fucking can to sound edgy by making it sound even more like a skateboard move. The Xbox 720 Christ Air is the only option.
