PS4 hardware design unveiled

pretty slick looking. You don't want anything to busy but your don't want it bland either. I'd say they struck a good balance

Code:
[ i]xbone[ /i]

But I like more to think it's 2 PS2 ducktaped, anyway it's a bit too much flat for my tastes, but less ugly than the MS one.

Can someone explain to me how they built a more powerful console with a smaller box and fewer ventilation? I hope it won't overheat, but otherwise, how the XBone so huge?

It's more me being pedantic about a shitty looking loungeroom - don't design a nice box that I HAVE to have a cable hanging out the front from.
I admit the PS Eye camera on the PS3 uses normal USB - on the PS4 it's proprietary and goes in the back so that's 1 free slot but still - some people do hook up HDD's. or in my case, I like a charge cable tucked neatly away so I can pull it from behind a TV or something.

Only now it needs to hang out the front like a cigarette out of a hobos mouth. Ruining my pretty console.

I agree with this. #teampedantry

No matter how long I keep staring at it, don't like it. Not the front, not the backside. The LED is 'kitch' and reminds me of knightrider.
The assymetric cross is a nice concept but the angle ruins everything.

I would have prefered something like this zalman HTPC case:

Compared to the launch PS3 with all that nice chrome, the PS4 looks like a budget case.

How are people thinking this looks the same as the Xbox one? It's not even close. Yeah it's a back box, like just about every other piece of entertainment hardware, but the actual design is completely different.

The three most visually salient features to me are the general proportions, the two-tone design, and the off-center vertical division. All of those it seems to share with the XB1

I agree. It's weird it doesn't have rear USBs. PS3's lack of them always irritated me.

When they unveiled it at the conference I literally said Damn outloud. That thing is sexy as all fuck.

I was like "meh" but the design is starting to grow on me.

I love how everyone who hated the Xbox One design is now saying that they love the PS4 design.

I always find these persecution complex comments amusing. I'd be surprised if you can dig up even just five unique examples. ;)

I don't like the look of the PS4 at all. Looks like a concept design instead of an official Sony product.

Feel the same way about the controller.

Love the design and the sharpness to it. My initial thought was not everyone is going to like the design but it will grow on people that may dislike it at first sight.

I love Sonys design language, simple, monolithic and industrial. They did a great job I think, same with their latest xperia phone flagships, beautiful stuff.
