Mines from hongfujin yantai china september 2013, works fine no issues so far. So its not all the units.
 
By the way, does everyone's system make a click sound (not the beep) when booting up? It's definitely some piece of hardware doing it.
 
Well time for sleep. I fully expect GAF to have a miracle fix by tomorrow morning.

So is anyone else getting a short lasting high pitch hinge-like noise on their PS4 when the disktray / fan starts working? It lasts a second or two.

I'll see if I can get a vid.
 
Amazon got the Duelshock 4 bundle in stock, so I just went for it. Extra controller I can always sell+ don't have to wait for sony to ship back. If it doesn't work, I wasted two days. Whatever.
 
I just wanted to chime in here - my wife works at a large retailer chain. They sold 220 units today and there was only one return due to a DOA unit.

I'm assuming the majority of these people checked their PS4 at some point today. So certainly not a 25% failure rate (as some people said before), at least from her store.

If I hadn't used a bunch of gift cards on my Amazon order I'd do this too. Sigh.
 
Popped in the stock drive and it works great.

The other drive still works just fine in a PC, though. So what the fuck?

Is there a comprehensive guide that lists out EVERY step required to replace the hard drive (including the setup of the replacement drive)? I can't figure out why this isn't working.

You could try to use this as leverage to get amazon to send you a replacement. These are amazon bundles, so it's not like this stuff is packed in the box. I didn't want to risk a sellout before I got it, but it could work.

Out of sheer curiousity, anyone can confirm what version of HDMI the PS4 has? Does it have 2.0 out of the box or via update?

I've seen however many cases of issues with devices like cable/satellite boxes with older HDMI versions and newer TVs with more recent HDMI versions. Any chance it's something similar if the PS4 has 2.0?

Well, that's a tricky one. We don't really know. The busted PS4's don't produce video, but it could also just be an internal hardware issue. I saw an article mention that it seems like the PS4 is stuck in some sort of perpetual "warm-up" state. HDMI issues are around, but the serious bricked issue's cause is unknown.
 
So guys I am able to get my system into safe mode but I am not sure which option to select....When I turn on the system not in safe mode I get blinking blue light with no output to the tv. The issue happened after I updated Killzone
 
Well, I appear to have the dreaded "Blue Light of Death" (BLoD) right out of the box.

I plugged everything in, I see blue pulsating light and no video or sound. I switched HDMI cables - use the HDMI cable from the PS4 box - still with the BLoD. I change source (from going to receiver to TV to instead going straight to TV) and I still get the BLoD.

I looked at the HDMI area - didn't see anything sticking up/down/out of place. I looked back at the HDMI cords to see if they've "pulled" something out of the PS4's innards - nope.


Correct me if I'm wrong, but the BLoD means the unit is beyond hope, correct? And the best course of action is to contact Sony directly and wait for them to send a box to then ship it to them? I'm on hold with Sony now....


I bought it from Amazon. Killzone Launch bundle.

Call Sony and get your coffin. *Sigh* We have another one boys.
 
Managed to get one of those Knack Bundles ordered from Amazon, the one I got today is all boxed up and ready to be sent back for a refund. I just hope that the one that gets here on Monday isn't broken as well or else I am just gonna lose it.
 
For what it's worth:

- Manufactured in China, Sept. 2013
- Switched out HDD with 1TB unit from amazon BEFORE setup
- Setup and updated w/ USB Drive
- Work with no issues

Thought I'd at least contribute

could depend on the batches and also if people return it the next day, that will be a better representation.
 
Wow, trying to use Sony's online chat is pretty frustrating too. I keep getting to the front of the queue and then booted out.
 
where can you find the manufactured date ?

and holy crap. these were manufactured just 2-3 months ago ???

anyone else's PS4's vents in the back get hot ? is this normal (obviously) but still, asking the redundancy...
 
So what's Sony's return policy like? Are they charging for shipping/repair? I'm thinking of just getting a refund from Amazon... they are giving refunds, right?
 
I just thought I'd share my experiences with my PS4.

When I first booted up the console, I had the controller that came with the console plugged into it, but I wanted to use a different controller so I unplugged that controller and I got the "BLOD" that people have been talking about.

I was freaking out a little at this point. I plugged the original controller back in and tried holding down the power button, didn't work. I gave it about 60 seconds and held down the power button again and this time it shut down. When I booted up the console a second time I signed in with the controller that was plugged into the USB and haven't had a problem since with my console.
