PS5 issues are freaking me out.

Not really true. Social media has been around for a long time, same with youtube, twitter, and GAF. Its just that people who have problems are more likely to post issues about them just like any review site
Social media was around. But social media wasn't as central to discourse in everyday life. It was more cat pictures and what you had for lunch. Being a professional tweeter or instagrammer wasn't the career in 2013 that it is today.

I've had zero issues. Unboxed it, plugged it in with a ethernet connection. Have been playing Miles Morales and Demon Souls.

I would do the system upgrades whenever I got the prompts though, namely whenever I tried to go into the store. I don't get prompts any other time (except during first use).

I do not use an external drive. In fact I haven't plugged anything into the USB ports at all (I have a charging stand for the controllers). Partially no need, partially paranoia.

No issues with rest mode.

Yeah I'm just talking about using my pixel 4a usb c to usb cable plugging in from ps5 to the controller. I did that one time and it charged a lot faster than the stock usb cable. I think the stock usb cable is bugged or something or something is going on with what the ps5 says is battery life in the dualsense.

I read that using the front USB sockets are bugged. Other people have been using the rear USB sockets for charging. Have you tried that?

Just out of irrational fear, I had been turning my system all the way off since the day I got it (instead of using rest mode).

The first time I tried rest mode, I came back to it like 6 hours later and it was fully off. It didn't turn on from the controller. I had to press the power button on the console a few times before it finally turned back on. Then it just turned on to a black screen.

After like 2 minutes it started outputting the video signal again and my TV thought it was a new device. Very weird shit! I guess I'm going to go back to being paranoid about rest mode again...

Are you using an external hard drive/system on rest mode?

No. I don't have an External HD and I turned off the console completly. I've played Astro, CoD Cold War, Miles Morales without problems. Downloaded Horizon, God of War and FFXV directly on the console and without problems, only Demon's Soul.

I fixed my corrupted database issues by downloading the latest firmware manually online and installing via usb. Only issue now is the coil whine.

Honestly just sell it in for a profit, here in the UK CeX will buy one off you for £600 even if it's used. That's a £150 profit. Let the issues iron out and pick one up later while enjoying s small profit.

Honestly the only times I had shit go wrong with my PS4 was when it went into rest mode. Just dumb weirdness like not being able to turn it back on or black screens or whatnot.

And the only time I had it in sleep mode is when I literally fell asleep and those were my settings after 3 hours, I never changed it. I just play for a session and turn the console off like in the old days, I don't feel comfortable putting a console into a suspended animation state. New loading times make cold boots a non-issue, Demon's Souls loads from the home screen in like 10 seconds.

My Digital edition PS5 has no issues so far. I've only had one software-related bug with the PS5 freezing/ restarting from Call of Duty Black Ops Activision account sign in screen, but it hasn't happened again and COD updated. I don't hear any coil whine either. My front USB charges my Dual Sense just fine too.

I have a 4TB external and my gold wireless USB dongle plugged into the back ports. That's BS FUD that you continue to spread here.

From all my reading I've done online about this it seems that the back ports are fine to use for charging controllers, but using a Lan cable for Internet and external hard drive can cause issues.

Never heard anything about them over heating though... Not sure that's entirely correct.

Dumbasses are standing up their PS5s upside down:

Aaaaand now we know why the failure posts on Twitter are popping up.

God people are dumb.

Very true. Social media is a totally different beast in 2020. Not even close to 2013.

I'm using Ethernet for Internet and have my 4TB external from my PS4 hooked up with zero issues.

Technically illiterate people have issues with hardware and invent causes and those invented causes become viral FUD on the internet.

I had an issue with Infamous. As I booted it up, it crashed my PS5. Only happened once.

Rest mode has been working as intended except for one time. When turning on the PS5 after rest mode, the screen appeared dim. I had to restart the PS5 to fix that. After that, it's been fine performance wise.

I initially did a reset on the PS5 after I did a data transfer. That was because I was looking for game data that was placed in the "other" section on the storage. There wasn't a way to see the files in there because it appears to be a section for reserved files. Didn't realize I had to look in another area for those games.

All hardware has problems, remember the crowbcat's Nintendo Switch failure video. Pretty telling but it resolved itself.

Don't worry because it is literally something you cannot control. There's always warranty or replacement.

This. And it's being used as ammo for people's narratives.

After reading the PS5 tech issue thread on reddit I am starting to get really anxious about what's going on.

From rest mode not working, controllers not charging, graphics issues in games, full on PS5 crashes and random shut downs, games being randomly uninstalled by the PS5, download bugs, PS4 games being locked for no reason in a person's primary account, and reports of PS5s bricking after 30 mins of use, I'm not sure what to do when I get my PS5 on the 19th.

Is this not freaking anyone else out? Nothing has been said by Sony and no one knows when any sort of patch will be released.

How are current PS5 Gaf users dealing with this news?
I mean this in the nicest way. But I think you are the kind of person who should maybe, be posting on reset era instead.

How's the FUD thread going? Still scouring social media for broken PS5s? Maybe you all can convince others to not order one, they are so easy to find ;)

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Better?

Fuck off with your low balling comment that has nothing to do with the issue at hand. If your going be so toxic then I suggest you go there instead or STFU.

By scouring social media do you mean the over 9K posts about broken PS5's on Reddit or do you mean to suggest people like Karak Karak are posting FUD? If you do, then say it to his face.

Since the update I've been having issues where on boot it says something like "game disc not supported". Have to eject and re insert

im confused. i have my controller plugged into the ps5 usb c to usb c.

to charge it, is it better to have the dualsense turned off? when i turn it off, the orange light starts glowing, but the charging symbols disappear on the screen.

when the control is pluggged in and turned on, no orange light but the screen says it's charging

Which one is effective

God fucking dammit :messenger_downcast_sweat: I think my ps5 may be defective.

I haven't had a single crash or any issue at all like that, but rather the console itself is not quiet like the reviewers claim.

I've seen people claim it's coil whine or whatever.. but mine has varying degrees to it.

Check it out. It's like when I pause the game on astro Playroom the coil whine changes pitches. Same if I un-pause it. In fact, whenever I move the camera around it even seems as if there's varying degrees of the whine.

Is this even coil whine? I saw people say it's normal but I'm afraid it's defective because the pitch of the whine will change based on what I'm doing.. :(

It's like I'll close the game and the level of it will change. This happens in Spider-man as well. In fuck I think notice now that Spiderman makes my fans go a lot more now. With my headphones on I of course don't hear it.. but come on this can't be normal. I can't imagine how my roommate will handle this if he can hear. This will be fucking humiliation

What do I do?

Yep. Coil whine. It reacts to current draw. I think it's really the side effect of having a quiet fan so people will hear coil whine now. Not to mention, the power draw on these new systems is way more than we've experienced in the past pulling in 200+ watts of power.

I sit about 4 feet away from my system so thankfully I can't hear it while I'm playing games but if my console was right next to me, it would drive me crazy.

Better to have the controller off. It'll charge while in use but only at a trickle. It's more feeding it power and not using the battery when you have it plugged in and are actively using it. One thing I thought that was weird is the default setting on the system is to NOT turn off the controller when it is not in use. I'd change that to 60m.

I just leave the USB cable plugged into the back of the system and plug the controller in when the system is rest mode when I'm done to charge it.

Look at the photos I added. When I have the controller off, I don't even think it indicates on screen that it's charging

When the controller is off, it's no longer communicating with the system. The orange light comes on to let you know it's charging. When it's plugged into the system, the software/symbol lets you know it's charging.

It'll charge faster when it's off.

I can also confirm coil whine on mine now. Also a loud disk drive when running games. Other than that, all good.

Yes crazy number when all of them are his friends ! it doesn't take a
statistics scientist to know this
I listed numbers for you and you still ignored it. Suit yourself.

Also, how do we know he's truthful or not? How do we know where they have their consoles placed? In a tight space with no ventilation? Upside down? Maybe all of them for it from the same store had a bad batch? There are many variables here. This doesn't make it "crazy high".

If we had twitter, facebook etc back when the older consoles released we'd have probably seen a lot of people complained too. That doesn't make it "crazy high". Take into consideration there are a lot of lying console warriors too on social media who's only purpose is to make the competition look bad. We can't trust this.

So far we can't take away anything from this. Let's wait for actual numbers.

Looks like my choice to wait until at least February or march is the correct one. .sadly.
Waiting is usually the safest choice. Of course, we have no way of knowing how many people are experiencing serious issues versus those who are not.

The games that are out now in my opinion don't justify taking a risk buying a new console if you are on the fence.

I had one system crash on launch day firmware. After the latest update no issues (been using rest mode, dont use external HDD, playing PS5 games only).

To me, being able to use the system from day 1 is worth the potential risk of gen 1 hardware/software issues as opposed to waiting an indeterminate amount of time for the next revision. The only time gen 1 hardware was an issue for me was the 360 RROD which was replaced from MS anyway. A friend of a friend had a dodgy PS5 (all games crash within 10 seconds) and he is getting his replaced by Sony, which is what I will do if I have hardware issues too.

Anyway I hope you enjoy your system whenever you end up getting it.

My games finally came from Gamestop. Is it supposed to really loud installing disk based games? It sounds like an engine.

I think the disc drive was an afterthought on both systems. They both sound like jet engines when using the drives. I still maintain that the PS5 feels cheap in general. They really feel like they cut corners in build quality. I've noticed it's not just Sony but seemingly every company that makes hardware from shavers, appliances, etc. all seem to be cutting corners for greater profit these days.

Just being cautious is all. New hardware, and so forth. Everything will be ironed out evenually.

I am getting a replacement/repair for my PS5. After tons of research it seems like error code CE-108262-9 means you are SOL and it's probably a GPU issue.
This error code doesn't seem to be as common as CE-108255-1 (which I also get). Sony said they are working on the latter code with a software fix.

Sony said it is about a 2 week turnaround time to send back the console.

If you continously read about problems the 1% are having of course you'll be freaked out.

The same way people develop a fear of flying after watching plane crash documentaries over and over.

Anyone else noticed you can't charge the Dual Sense 5 unless it's hooked up to the PS5 via USB-C?

For instance using a USB-C charger I can charge my Switch Pro controller directly plugged into a charger separate from the Switch with no issues.
