PS5 Might Seamlessly Switch To Your Second Controller When Your Battery Is Low

All I wanted was to switch batteries and continue playing... like on xbox. But if the battery life is 8 hours, I would not like to switch batteries. On xbox it works since I have to switch ikea batteries once every 40+ hours

Nice. Would prefer a longer battery life though.
We'll see what we can turn off to keep it running longer when we get our hands on it.

I rather just have the pause. Can you imagine playing a game then all of a sudden you are not. lol

This sounds terrible, I'm in the middle of a game and instead of it dying and me plugging in I have to run to the other side of the room to grab the second controller.

I wish you could remove the haptic bs, the touchpad etc and just have more battery life instead lol. I always turn off vibration in my games anyway.

Also I'm not buying an extra controller. Good try Sony

The console will send a low battery warning to the player, also presenting the option to switch to the second controller, creating a smooth transition.

So no. It'll just save you the step of doing it manually, but it'll give you plenty of time to decide to switch to the second controller.

That entire scenario sounds like your own fault.

You were being too lazy knowing full well you were notified that your battery was dying.

lol at "running to the other side of the room"

Who leaves their other controllers on though? My extras sit on the charger.. not turned on and active lol

But hopefully it would work like:
- Warning pops up
- You turn second controller on
- This gets detected instantly and you can then switch right away

But as it stands I just turn one off and the other on and it works pretty seamlessly anyways.

I have a young daughter who likes controllers and tends to misplace/hide them, I would be annoyed if my controller is low and my next game will be treasure hunt lol, I know that's my fault etc but I see potential flaws unless you can override and continue playing on near dead controller!

If Sony wants to frills up the Dual Sense with features, at least give gamers a choice of user replaceable battery.

Seamlessly switching to a second controller is a stupid solution, it would mean your second controller has to be always on? Not that arrogant Sony cares, it means another DS sold, nice attach rates figures. 🤷‍♀️

Isn't that a system wide feature? You could turn rumble off on PS3 in the settings.

Huh? Probably means your game pauses like usual and it turns on any other controller in the room. No need to log into a profile it's just on.

Again it's all your choice. You're given an early warning and prompt. If you can't find the other controller, you can ignore it and plug in the one you're holding.

Doesn't make much sense since who has both controllers on their hands at the same time...i mean, you still need to reach for the replacement, pressing the PS button when ready it's far from even an inconvenience needing solving.

This seems pointless unless the console magically swaps the controller in your hands with the other too.
Huh? If you happen to own an extra controller it gives you the option to switch to it, no fuss.

How can you complain about such a simple convenient feature? Reaching for an extra controller is a step too far, seriously?

They do have more battery... it was tested, it has something like 50% better charge from what I remember.

Nice feature, and desperately needed with the rumored battery life

You mean what I'm already doing now? In the time to get back to my seat from picking up a new controller I've already done the switch on which controller is active. At best this feature saves me a button press, maybe two. It's convenient but it's not like it changes anything much. It's just one of those bullet points you list to make it the look like you're product does a lot. Although to be fair to Sony, they're not hyping the feature up, it's not like we know if the feature is even implemented.

In offline games, dead Xbox controllers stop the game. But online, it keeps you in the game and you're a sitting duck until you fix it.

PS controllers don't let you charge and play at the same time?

When my Xbox controller is low, I just plug it in to charge while I play.

That's it. It's simple convenient feature. By the time you grab the other controller is already synced to player so you don't miss a beat.

I don't understand why it needs to teleport into your hand to justify its existence simply because a tiny bit of locomotion is expected of you.
