Not really.
They have the same OD, same RAM amount, same CPU. Differences is a 20% bigger GPU for XSX, but a far more advanced and faster SSD for Sony. I think the price of the extra die space will be totally negated by the extra cost of the tech Sony has in the SSD. SSDs are hugely expensive, and the PS5 one is more advanced than anything on the market. Heck, it might be more expensive than the XSX GPU additions.

Just watched the DF reaction and theyre saying tflops is a terrible representation of compute power, so this thing might really perform not all that differently. Plus it has killer load times. Tbh im so into Sonys eco system now, im happy to go ps5 even if its technically worse.

Its happening on here as well in the next gen thread. I fully expect to wake up tomorrow and the general concensous will be PS5 matches XSX. Then tomorrow, or whenever the forum mafia decide to return, PS5 will be 'more powerful'. Then this time next week XSX will need a Pro model to compete.ooof the spinning on reeeeee is hilarious

In lame men's terms, the One X is about 40% more powerful then the Pro, the XSX is anywhere between 20-25% more powerful then the PS5, depending on the clock speeds the PS5 is pushing at the time. So, not AS big of a Power gap, but 20-25% is nothing to sneeze at either.

The is being confirmed everywhere dude, from developer forums I've been on to anyone who knows anything about math basically, my 1st numbers came to around 18-20% but that was going with the highest clock speeds the PS5 can push (10.2tf), which there is NO WAY the PS5 is gonna push it's max at all times, expect another "Red Ring Of Death" situation if this is the case.

The xbox gpu is likely 56 CU with 4 disabled while the ps5 is likely 40 with 4 disabled.
Thats a 40% bigger gpu and likely 40% more expensive
According to the talk fewer CU at higher speed is better for same amount of tflops.
We dont know if rdna2 is designed for high clocks. Will need to wait for rdna2 amd gpus.

Honestly I don't know why I allow myself to get worked up about these console wars. I still have my XBox One X and am going to play the heck out of that for the next 2-3 years before buying the mid-gen refresh XBox Series X.

A Geforce 1080 level gpu on PS5 a year from now is going to be rough on the whole industry. It's already almost obsolete. The last half of the PS5 's gen is going to be rough for gaming. Don't expect quality ray-tracing on PS until PS6.

Overall they're both pretty much the same, Xbox Series X taking the edge slightly.
As a PC owner/builder, I'd just like to point out that there are so many more variables that come into play here. Yes the PS5 has lower specs on paper, but that doesn't mean it's going to perform a lot worse, especially in a multi-platform case. Also depends what Devs target.

While it sucks that the PS5 doesn't have a higher TF count I'm personally ok with the specs, I can see the XSX running native 4K games a little more than the PS5, but the PS5 should just be able to run the same games at 1440p and checkerboard render up to 4K with hopefully the same effects, etc. I'm curious to how the XSX split memory bandwidth is going to work overall, I wonder if that will hinder anything with the slower 6GB. Also we don't know yet if the CPU's on either console are running a stripped down version of a Zen 2 CPU (less cache, etc).

Higher clockspeed generates more heat and is less efficient after a certain point. Where that point is, and how well-managed the heat will be, are TBD. AMD hasn't proven yet that pushing clockspeed that high can product substantial gains without tons of extra heat and power consumption. Among other things, RNDA 2 should be a substantial leap forward in that regard so I'm excited to see what Sony/AMD have pulled off in that regard.
If I had to pick one today based purely on specs/design (assuming price difference is $50 or less), I would go with the more powerful, stable machine which the X will almost undoubtedly be.

I still can't believe KLee had everyone believing PS5 was more powerful. Even with the Reiner tweet during last years E3 everyone ran with that. KLee even doubled down after Dealer and Windows Central leaked the 12TF number. So called insiders here as well.

A dude people trust blindly said PS5>XSX. No numbers were involved. So people who were predisposed to like sony just assumed sony would be higher no matter what. Back when we thought the consoles would come last year at 8TF? Well PS5>XSX so PS5 must be 9 or something. When it became clear we were waiting till 2020, 10 TF became the goal, but PS5>SXS no mater what so it had to be 11 TF. We then got confirmation SXS was 12 (even after the only true leak already said as much) so people said PS5 must be 13 because PS5>XSX no matter what, even though the XSX=12 leak said PS5 was much lower. People believed a sweet lie that didn't need to connect to any other facts. if there was an XSX 200TF rumor, it would've been okay, because PS5>XSX no matter what, so it must be 201.
That logic was always faulty, and it was clear from the word go. The fact that we never got Insider "Rumored" PS5 numbers till after XSX ones, and then they always, invariably, were just Xbox +1 was enough to make clear to anybody who didn't want to deceive themselves that it was all BS. This lasted until it just became patently clear around February that it wasn't going to be PS5>XSX, and then some said that maybe PS5 was simply the same as SXS, or a hair behind. But still, many said PS5>XSX simply because PS5> XSX. I on this very form pointed out how this tautology was a logical fallacy based on one random statement from a random internet dude, and people said I was a troll who was clearly just a fanboy.

I like the SSD as extra ram bit but other than that this whole generation including the series X seems like a big let down. I mean we knew it would happen one day but the generational leap thing is over. All we are going to get from now on is incremental advances.

Disappointing reveal overall.
I thought the chances of PS1-3 backwards compatibility where slim to none. PS3 architecture was a bit of a mess and probably isn't the easiest thing to emulate. PS1-2 are probably more trivial, but I think backwards compatibility is one of those features a lot of people clamor for and never use. Because of price expectations of retro titles and the licensing effort required in a lot of them, I'm sure there isn't a lot of profitability to be had. What is disappointing is the limited backwards compatibility. I thought the idea of getting rid of Crazy Ken for Cerny was to have a sound architectural plan to have backwards compatibility moving forward. It's part of the reason I accepted the lack of backwards compatibility when the PS4 launched. My secret hope was that Sony had contracted Blue Point to help with their backward compatibility solution and that we'd get native enhancements to PS4 games on PS5 similar to what we saw Microsoft due with the Xbox One X and Xbox 360 titles.
Sony seems all in on their storage solution. It sounds impressive and it's great that they had the foresight to let us use 3rd party drives to expand storage in the future. I do worry about how advantageous this will be. Sony first part titles and some exclusive are sure to take advantage of the speed, but the majority of games are developed to be multi-platform. We'll probably see improved load times in those titles but I don't think anyone will be able to level design around these improved IO speeds when they are developing for more than just the PS5. For the most part, it seems like this solution will be a QOL feature (load times) over anything revolutionary.
The gap in performance on paper between PS5 and the competition seems rather large. Maybe that let's Sony price their system $100 less than the Series X, but I'd guess their custom storage solution probably takes up the bulk, if not more, of offering the less powerful system. I guess we'll see when the prices are announced. I'm guessing we are looking at $500-600 consoles from both camps.

Nice to hear mark touch on the the inadequacies (noise) of the cooling solutions in PS4/PS4 Pro. Hopefully they are engineering something better for PS5.
Also nice to hear about a focus on audio. I think that's especially important if Sony continues down the path of VR. I'm over the days of complex speaker setups but any benefits to headphone user are appreciated.
To circle back to backward compatibility, it seems wholly inadequate and oddly rushed. It's probably too late in the game, but with what Microsoft showed and the world's manufacturing reduced to a crawl because of COVID-19, I kind of wish Sony would have taken a step back, rethought some of their choices and delayed launch a year. I read a comment somewhere that it feels like boost mode in PS5 is reactionary and trying to make the gap in performance between the two next generation console seem lessened and that feels right.
If I weren't so tied into the Playstation ecosystem and if the Xbox user experience weren't so terrible, I'd probably switch camps or at least be multi-platform out of the gate. I'm certainly concerned about investing heavily into non-exclusive titles on PlayStation like I did this generation.
