It takes an internet connection to marry the drive to the console, so that means if your ID gets banned, they could terminate the connection. Remember a few years ago PS4 had an issue that would make the drive stop working, but I think they corrected the problem. It'll likely never happen, but it's just giving a company more ways to control what you can play.

Seems like paranoia to me:

The internet check marries the drive to the console but has nothing to do with your PSN ID. It's done the first time you turn on the console even before you actually login

Get used to it because Sony is not going to build the drive again into the console

Oh I will, bruh. I have hundreds of old games and dozens of old systems that can't be killed by a remote switch. No worries about online subs, performance patches etc. It's really gaming bliss that a large majority of younger gamers can't enjoy these days.
