That isn't the case, the game is very much alive, has more frequent content patches than any other MMO and makes more money now that it ever has in the past. It's also on the first page of Twitch streamers consistently and the added "benefit" of people losing a lot of money would entice these idiots.

There are technologies in place to safeguard against DDOS attacks. It's pretty poor to be falling for them at this point, especially for a service like PSN.

With things like the NTP reflection attacks even some of the anti-DDoS services have struggled to keep up.

Also if the attackers happen to find an origin server or network, no anti-DDoS service is going to save you from saturated uplinks.

I've had the misfortune of being collateral damage from a 400+ gbit attack targeted at a MMORPG provider who happened to be connected to the same carrier router as I was. They used well known anti DDoS provider. It didn't help.

Why not give those customers something to chat about and wage war with them, especially when one of them is a huge reason why net neutrality is at risk right now? Gamers are more reactionary than the people who use those services.

And yeah, theres always the fanboy points like you say. Go check the comments of news articles about this and you'll see a whole bunch of "lol Fuck Sony" comments from fanboys (mostly PC it would seem, but no surprise there).
