PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

As a followup to my analogy earlier, a DDoS is similar to an asshole parked in front of your driveway blocking your car. If you took steps to prevent that, they can always block the street, where you have no control.

That's a more useful analogy than I generally see to explain this sort of thing.

"Sign-in failed" error started popping up for me about a half hour ago. Before I had access (even when other people were having problems).

At this point there's no use continuing the discussion, but enough people have chimed in with the same issue that you should realize it's a problem on their end somewhere. If you think we're just lying (for what reason?), then whatever.

Actually i've only seen a couple. The other one in another thread said something about having two different accounts set as primary (i'm not sure how that is possible, I don't have a PS4 but just the word "primary" would lead me to believe that is not possible) which would leave me to believe their is some possible primary/secondary acct issues right there involved. Since many others are saying its working fine for them and we cannot physically go through your settings the discussion becomes pointless. Call Sony for support.

Idea for Sony, while you are getting DDoSed, why not do your scheduled maintenance earlier instead, during down-time, so we can play on Monday :D

According to the service status on their website they are "undergoing maintenance" but I don't know if that's just PR speak to just avoid admitting to this or if they're actually doing it now.

Tweet was just deleted; I wonder if they really got hacked or if that's the group behind them

To me it sounded like these guys hacked the Lizard dudes, but the way they worded the tweet could be interpreted as being with them, so they probably took it down?

Just my interpretation, though, i'm probably 100% wrong lol

This is complete bull. I can't play any games I've downloaded. Even single player because it says I don't have the license. My ps4 is set as my primary console.

I don't quite understand this.

Also, does PSN not automatically set your PS4 as primary if it's the first or only PS4 on the account? I guess I'll need to go set mine as primary if it doesn't once the DDoS is over.

I don't think it does, you should manually set it as soon as possible! I could play games of the account that set the PS4 as primary but not others.

Was it your primary console prior to this, or did you just switch it? It should be working.

Welcome to my experience with the PS4, where every other game session has some kind of issue like this. Only I usually get the added fun of having nothing happen when I hold down the Playstation button. My only recourse is to then hold down the power button for about 10 seconds until the system reboots, whereupon I'm berated by the PS4 for not powering it down correctly. It's always a fun adventure.
Well, in my case at least, it appears it's simply failing to load the next UI, leaving me with nothing but the background of the Dynamic Menu itself.

I'm not sure what you're describing, but it sounds pretty terrible. You might wanna do the rebuild-database/factory-reset dance, but failing that, you should look in to getting it serviced, since it's under warranty.

So funny if they got hacked.

PSN?

If that's what you meant, there'd be nothing funny about this. People play Playstation to escape stress. It'd be kinda messed up if PSN users were inconvenienced again by having their CC stolen all over again.

If you meant the hackers got hacked, then yeah, I agree. It'd be some sweet justice.

One thing that this illuminates is the weird difference across users. Some PS4 owners can play their installed DD titles just fine, and others are completely locked out?

How does something like that happen?

He mean the DDOS attackers, not Sony.

Did the Lizard Squad guy tweet something about his own mother spelling it "mom" ?

Inferring he's from the USA due to that spelling.

As EU AUS NZ UK spell it mum.

Anyway I'm out, hope its back up soon.

Think he was talking about the Lizards

Edit: Ninjas

You dont need PSN to download the patches. Those things are seperate. If you dont even have a PSN account, you can still download patches.

I told a friend of mine about six hours ago to wait until PSN is back up so he could download the latest patch for The Last of Us before he started playing. Whoops...
