PSN connection problems (12/24)

Well, I can't buy anything on the Xbox store now. I also tried to log into Destiny as a test and I got the "You need to be signed into Xbox Live" message, even though I was signed in. So apparently it is getting hit now as well.

This is *pure* conjecture, but usually large-scale DDoS attacks against a corporation is used as a smokescreen to hide actual intrusion attempts. I'm not 100% sure if the current group is doing it just purely for the lulz (since you can buy this kind of attack for less than $100 and you don't need any experience), or if they're using it to see if there's anything tasty to take on internal Sony servers - not that there must be much left. But they could always be going after redeemable codes or such to resell on black markets.

I understand network infrastructure. At least I hope I do since its my job , but sure. My point in the post you pulled was I don't understand theirs so I couldn't say what they weren't doing that they should be doing.

It sucks . Hope it goes back up soon. If that's all you want to talk about here then yes I agree. But just like you don't need to know anything about how networking works to understand that Nintendo is way behind in their network infrastructure, I don't think it's a stretch to say that Sony can't compare to Microsoft in that area.
 
PSN was working overnight, but started having problems this morning. Luckily I bought the games I wanted and they were downloading before the flood of new people logging in. PS Store says it is undergoing maintenance instead of the error messages I got last night.
 
I have mainly digital content and for some unknown reason, there is a lock symbol on all of them. I can't even access Netflix.

My digital content is locked to be only accessible when connected to PSN.

Let me guess, there will be no compensation for PS+ users who pay to play online. This certainly isn't the first time this year this has happened, and many of have barely been able to access or send PSN messages for several weeks.
 
Bought an Xbox One yesterday, can't enjoy it yet thanks to Lizard Squad or whoever is doing this crap. Checked my PS4 and of course PSN is down, too.

Losers.
 
Is it possible that Liztards targeting only US networks? I am in China and both PS4 and Xbox work just fine. PSN is slow as usual (compared to Xbox Live/Steam normal speeds), but still usable with reported speeds at 37Mbps. Friends and messages load as well.

Cross posting from Xbox thread, but Xbox works as usual except for strange issues with Xbox Music (song skipping or getting stuck in the middle of the song):

I got into CoD MP but then quit to install GTA. Probably won't get back in haha. Christmas is probably the best time to do these attacks. It's easier because there's already a higher load and more fustrsting for end users.

Might be, I can log onto my EU account without any problems, but I can't sign in on my US account.

I don't remember it being down Christmas. Earliest unscheduled maintenance/issue periods were launch and I think April. And then starting around E3 we had issues every couple months (P.T.+Hardline, Minecraft, Driveclub, DDOS attacks).
 
What brings a kid to become part of such a community, I wonder? Is it their fancy computers and non-existent parental figures that give them an edge in technical know-how but poor moral direction? I see people calling them kids and I don't know how old they are, but I just can't picture some kid being like this in real life. Maybe it's because I'm not technically savvy and thus my four year old is also without such knowledge but what the fuck drives kids into this?

Is this the Minecraft generation at play?
 
Everything is still locked cause it can't verify the licenses. I get it that my console is not primary because my friend has it but he's at work and I can't deactivate his console to make mines primary again. I can see friends online and see friends online until i click it and i get an error. Sad when you wana share stuff with your friend and this happens.

Really starting to dislike Sony. It seems like it's every other day now where PSN craps out and it doesn't seem like they're even doing anything about it. No way was it this consistently bad last gen.
 
XBL is also down. Looks like both are being attacked with the normal high Christmas volume on top.

Lot of people earlier need to eat crow. Sadly not much these companies can do about these sort of attacks besides going after the attackers. And no, XBL isn't immune either.

You do realize they are being attacked right? So perhaps you should place your hate elsewhere, like at the douchebags who are doing this.

Right now for myself both XBox Live and PSN are completely unreachable.

Yep. I was just bragging about Live myself and then bam. Both down for me as well.
 
Was working fine yesterday but now I'm logged in but nothing works.

Also Fuck you lords of the fallen, shitty game crashed on me thank god I saved like 30 minutes ago though.

I'm starting to think 35 bucks was too much

Yeah I figured I could at least play my disc of Dragon Age, but NOPE it won't load my game save because it can't connect to DA servers.

Yep, but it's been running like utter shit for the last 4 months and that has nothing to do with attacks or whatever.

I haven't forgot about anything. It's why I used the word consistently. Yeah that outage was bad, but besides that my experience on PSN was smooth last gen so I don't have any complaints about that whereas it's almost every other day now where my friends list doesn't load, I can't read my messages, I can't accept game invites etc.

...sometimes there's nothing that can be done. In this case arresting the culprits is about the only thing that can ne done, since ddos attacks are not preventable and are using how a network functions to attack it. And then there's no gurrentee other copy cats won't come along.
 
When I go to the store in any browser it just continually loads, I got a server error through my PS4. The thing that bums me out is I don't have access to anything I got through the store, it's all locked (NHL 15, Last of Us Remastered etc.) is that normal?
 
It was down for me for about 30 mins this morning. But since then it's been up, getting some errors here and there, nothing big though.
