PSN connection problems (12/24)

It taking this long to stop a DDoS attack is fucking rediculous... Sorry but it is. Not surprising given Sony's track record of incompetence with network security and infrastructure. Either this isn't just kids and the scope of the distribution is rediculous or Sony just sucks ass. I put my money on the latter.

Yes, let me taste your tears.

Hope this is fixed in the next couple of days. I'm getting Disney Infinity 2.0 in the mail and want to play all those cool user created stuff.

Chill out man we are only joking.

that joke is one of the most played out ones around. also since when did stereotypes become ok if you're "just kidding". the whole gamer/computer nerd virgin joke is horrifically unfunny and painfully unoriginal.

I can't believe I pay for PSN and XBL when some kids can just take the service down whenever they feel like it.

If a service exists on the internet, like say, your online banking, Netflix, GAF, whatever - it can be ddosed. That is a fundamental issue with the internet, that cannot be fixed unless how the internet works at a base level is changed.

EDIT: I'm watching Steam carefully - I worry it's next.

You are taking this way too seriously.

I'm sorry if this somehow offended you but you are blowing it up a bit, just relax.

Likely it'll be back tomorrow. A proper statement would garner Sony lots of credit.

Pity. Here's hoping the flash sale is extended though.

Just got a really weird bug that I've never had before, didn't even have it earlier today...

My PS4 wouldn't let me go through to any secondary menus (trophies/settings/profile etc.), it would just hang slightly before I hit the PS button to go home. So, I thought I'd turn it off but holding down the PS button, it would make all the sounds for the shutdown menu but wouldn't bring it up. Eventually held the button down on the console and got it in to Rest mode but it did the dreaded triple beep as I restarted it.

Then, the menus were working again once I logged back in but as I went to shut down for the night, I got another triple beep :(

I wish I didn't but I logged out a few hours ago and it would not even get to the log in screen but is now.... please bee close .....

also I downloaded the far cry 4 patch and got some thropies not logged in will they show up once online????

From my experience the triple beep happens when PSN is having issues; it's the only time I get a triple beep when shutting down. I recall weird menu bugs too, if you unplug your ethernet/disconnect from wifi it should work normally.

Yes, your trophies will sync and show up later. I got two offline and when I briefly came online, they appeared.

I just hope its up before midnight in NYC... I don't even want to play, I just want to get my Xmas rewards from Garden Warfare!

Rockstar is doing something similar with GTAO. For everyone who logs in on Christmas Day, they're supposed to receive some sort of special reward or something that won't be made available later.

Frustrated? Read a fucking book, go for a walk, call your mom. Jesus Christ.

How about stfu and get out of the thread if all you are going to do is talk down to people who might have worked hard all week just to sit down and play a game on their console. You are on a gaming forum and expect people not to be frustrated when they cant buy or play anything they want?

I'm sorry dude but maybe you're on the wrong forum.

i have to agree with this. don't be disparaging to people here who want to play games in a gaming forum.

Please, we all work hard every week. PSN and XBL are down for a few hours and you can do nothing but complain about how much it sucks on the Internet? I feel that there's no need to worry about it because it'll be up and running before too long and you could have done something more productive than letting it ruin your life. If I feel for anyone, it's the 12 year old kid who got one after waiting a year and he can't do shit and has to wait even longer.

I'm really not "blowing it up" I just think this is incredibly hypocritical and an extremely shallow and obvious joke/stereotype. It's like annoying shitheads on COD going "hurrr durr you have no life you're a virgin hurr durr." It's a ridiculously stupid joke, and just because these guys are assholes doesn't mean we have to sink to their level.

I was annoyed at first because I thought I would miss out on the exclusive stuff that was being given away for Garden Warfare today, but it turns out the devs are listening and extended the giveaway because of the downtime so its all good.

Can we all just agree that:

1. There are more important things going on in all of our lives than video games and we shouldn't blow this situation out of proportion. No one's life has been ruined and there are other ways to spend a day off having fun or being productive. I don't know if screaming for the IT guy's heads on a platter on Christmas day because they didn't immediately solve an attack they didn't cause really helps anything.

BUT

2. These companies have designed platforms that fundamentally rely on these network services so much that it is undeniably a design flaw that becomes more and more inexcusable the more and more games rely on those online services? Let's remember this next time "Online only is fine! Who's not online these days?" arguments get passed around.

Seriously? You do realize a lot of people have to work tomorrow right? That yesterday and today were their only days off to enjoy the holiday? That maybe they do get out and do other things with the rest of their time?

I also see no indication that anyone on this forum "can do nothing but complain". A few posts over the course of an hour or so does not indicate that the person has nothing better to do. I check this thread periodically just to see if PSN is up. Doesn't mean I'm just sitting here doing nothing between the times I check in.

In fact, I'd say you're wasting more time causing frustration with your nonsensical comments than anyone here complaining about the PSN issues.

^This. I wanted to play FF14 online, but PSN is down. I thought, "no worries, I'll just play Dragon Age instead". Of course it can't connect to the servers so I can't even play Dragon Age offline. That's what frustrated me more than the fact that PSN is down.

I find it ironic that an Albertan who lives in the coldest hell hole of North America is telling people to go for a walk in shitty winter.

We are supposed to cherish these days off in winter by cocooning indoors, playing games and watch movies with hot cocao

Flames suck

A few hours? It's been down for me and my brother since yesterday evening. It's a paid service that goes down far too often. We were going to get on and buy DAI in the flash sale and play, but nope.
