PSP 2k5 Predictions

Well, this 2k5 has just begun and since the new systems won't appear till 2k6 it's pretty
clear who will be the main characters of the console scene.
This thread has mixed feelings since perhaps I am also putting games I wish
to appear but more or less I think there are strong chances of them appearing.

suikoden.jpg

Genso Suikoden
Company: Konami
Origin: PSX/Saturn

Why ?
Because it's one of the finest and nicest RPGs ever. Cool music and graphics that could
be reproduced easily on PSP/DS. The PAL versions are nearly impossible to find. It's fair to say that the move would be welcome !

Probable ?
Konami announced Vandal Hearts for DS and also has Ys comming for the PSP...I wouldn't
consider this improbable.

beatmaniaiidx6.jpg

Beatmania/DDR/Pop n' Music
Company: Konami
Origin: PSX

Why ?
Because people loves that kind of games and PSP delivers quality sound-> Any better chance to port your old titles ?

Probable ?
A lot. They could even release small accessories like they did with the GB Beatmania.
tokimeki.gif

Tokimeki Memorial
Company: Konami
Origin: SFC

Why ?
Because the PSP market is still virgin at those kind of games and Tokimeki is the king. The demographics of the system are the perfect public.

Probable ?
A lot.

2003-chrono-cross.jpg

Chrono Cross
Company: Square
Origin: PSX

Why ?
Because they need Chrono Trigger freaks to be hyped for whatever the next release of the series is or the remake everybody is waiting for.

Probable ?
No ports of CC have been made to date...Perhaps it would be too much job for Square but well I think that this is the game Square would port if they had to port something to the PSP now. I see them rather undecided about where to put FF installments (the big ones I mean)
mvc2cov.jpg

Marvel vs Capcom 2 (or whatever vs title)
Company: Capcom
Origin: DC/Naomi

Why ?
I am sure Vampire Chronicle won't be the last 2D fighter to grace PSP. They are always welcome !

Probable ?
Don't know if there are license problems to release an old game (not a new one) but when I think in the chance of CAPCOM releasing a Street Fighter game on the PSP/DS I have my doubts.
Would they have the guts to release Alpha 3 ? Hmmm...I don't think so. Alpha 3 has been ported to nearly every system on earth: PSX, DC, Saturn, GBA and it even was announced for GP32...They could release Alpha/Alpha 2 but I see this even more improbable...Then we have the III series...A 3rd strike port ? Nah...the release of the PS2/XB versions is too recent...
Those are the reasons why I believe the next installment will be a VS one.

cover_rivalschools.gif

Rival Schools
Company: Capcom
Origin: PSX/Arcade

Why ?
PSP offers the ability to push decent 3D graphics. It's the chance for CAPCOM to push a Rival Schools for the system. It's an awesome game that has nothing related to the crappy Arika efforts.

Probable ?
Hmmm...the series have never been very popular so I am skeptical about it...But I have the feeling like if it was announced.

onimusha.jpg

Onimusha PSP
Company: Capcom
Origin: PS2

Why ?
Capcom has yet to show some games with a little content on PSP. Sure DMC / VJ are said to be comming but those are arcade games with more focuse on action than anything. Then we have RE series but I doubt they'll put them on PSP at that point...Onimusha has had 3 iterations on PS2 and it's very appreciated by Japanese gamers.
Probable ?
I see more probable a release of Onimusha on PSP than a VJ one...and well the second one has been already announced.
0711719743323.jpg

Tekken Generations
Company: Namco
Origin: New title

Why ?
Namco can be very wise and make money in the first year of PSP. How ? Easy, by just using the old
and loved franchises of the PSX. It would be welcome :)

Probable ?
Almost assured.

wildarmsbox.JPG

Wild Arms
Company: SCE
Origin: PSX

Why ?
PSP also needs to help people sleep. Is there anything better than a Wild Arms title ?
Probable ?
With Popolocrois announced, Sony already showed they were doing RPGs for their PSP but well...Popolocrois is only well-known in Japan. I think they may prepare some title for the US/EU that is a bit more famous.

Arc The Lad
Company:SCE
Origin: PSX

See above

E3 2005 will have a ton of announcements for PSP IMO.
Capcom has to bring Biohazard and Onimusha.
Konami could do Silent Hill and a Zoe episode.
Namco should bring Tekken and a new Klonoa game.
Of course a strong Square support is needed.

I doubt CAPCOM will announce Biohazard for PSP...at least this year. No doubt we'll probably see an Onimusha anouncement.
On the other hand I also doubt Konami will present a ZOE for PSP...Kojima doesn't like to port/milk his games unless there are strong reasons for it :) And well...Silent Hill popularity has go down a lot (thanks to excessive milking and the horrible SH4) although the 3 first games are awesome.
I agree that Namco will show a new Tekken for the PSP and well...a Klonoa PSP doesn't seem unlikelly.

I think it was Yamaoka that mentioned that if they did release a SH on a portable it'd go under a big change because they don't think that survival horror is suitable for portable system.

I'd like to see the PSP used to revive some of the older Playstation titles that Sony hasn't done anything with on the PS2. Mainly G Police, Colony Wars and Warhawk.

Before or After SH Play Novel on GBA ?

SH Play Novel is totally different from the SH games.

It was after the Play Novel. I'd imagine that since the PSP and DS are capable of 3D that it'd be a straight action title with the series name. Possibly a DMCish approach.

I would love to see a Suikoden 1+2 remake in hi-res 2D sprites with pre-rendered or painted backgrounds. I doubt they'll put that much budget into it but if they do that'll be awesome. I'm usually against remakes but Suikoden 1+2 are classics and 3 and 4 so far are a far cry from the original classics.

ZoE PSP I see happening. It's just what the PSP needs, a fast paces awesome 3D mecha action game on the go. With a touched up and improved versus mode, areas broken into more but shorter missions to make it easier to pick up and play, tons of unlockables, I see it being a bigger success than any of the home versions. The DS can get another strategy ZoE too if they want, the two screens and touch screen would be good for that.

Would really love to see the Magna Carta and War of Genesis games brought to the US PSP. I can't think of many import games i've wanted to play more. Hell i'd kill to have them on any system, PS2, XBox, GC, Gizmondo!!

I have to say... games don't just get arbitrarily PUT onto a system, especially just based on what system it has appeared on in the past. Sony has to prove to developers that they can create a market in the handheld arena first.

Genso Suikoden on PSP when Vandal Hearts which has only appeared on Sony consoles is going DS?

Chrono Cross on PSP when Square Enix has announced ONE game project for PSP vs the 5 or 6 announced on DS?

All of your other predictions look good, except for these two, which are obviously just on your wishlist.

Sony will not enter the portable market and just be given all of the IP they have been used to getting. Xenosaga, Castlevania, Lunar, almost everything Square Enix are all going Nintendo DS, so sometimes it is nice to wish (I do all the time for many different systems), but sometimes you have to look at the real situation and decide on how likely it actually is.

I really don't see Genso Suikoden going to the DS. Vandal Hearts was easy to convert for DS since it could made nice usage of the dual screens... But Suikoden 1/2 ? Hmmm...I don't see it...
Anyways there is still Azure Dreams which could be easily ported to the DS and sure would fit there.
About Chrono Cross ? This is perhaps the hardest one to see for now on PSP. But the fact is I highly doubt they announce a port of FFVI,FFVII, FFVIII or FFIX for the PSP this first year. I think they are gonna wait for that.
There is still the Saga series, the Seiken Densetsu series, Dewprism, Brave Fencer Musashi and tons of PSX games but well...if they want to have a hit on PSP it sure is Chrono Cross.

Except that Suikoden isn't an SRPG.

As disappointed as I am in how Suikoden 3 turned out, what I'd really like to see is an Suikoden MMORPG. Not gonna happen, but the Suikoden world is extremely well-suited for an MMORPG.

suikoden3.gif
suikoden4.gif

suikoden5.gif

Yep...the first two ones are totally different. I still remember the first notes of the Suikoden first track...sniff... Awesome game.

As I said now it's impossible to find it on PAL territories.

Square-Enix will announce more games, maybe Final Fantasy VII-IX ports/remakes.

Capcom will announce Resident Evil for the PSP.

Sony will introduce a 8-10 hour battery this year.

I'd imagine a beatmania game being better for DS... I'd rather see some new RPGs for the PSP rather than ports... I have a feeling a new ATL and a new WA will be there. God ATL2 was so good... Has anybody here played ATL Generation?

Why do you think companies will bother 'converting' titles for either system? Vandal Hearts DS has not been announced as a port. In all likelihood it will be a brand new entry in the series.

Suikoden, if it is made for a portable, would also more likely be a new entry in the series. Why would it be a port? Also, the DS features do not HAVE to be used. They are merely tools and interfaces for developers to choose from. So if Konami wanted to, not that they are extremely Nintendo friendly, they could port Suikoden 1 or 2 to the DS as is. Or, like Square Enix with FF III, they could port it with new DS features.

I think the idea of ports is a great idea, but not right out of the gate. New product should showcase the new machines, with ports filling gaps in software later in the life cycle.

For example, the GBA could definitely use some more games. Why not release old SNES classics like they have with the NES Classics? Super Metroid? Chrono Trigger? You name, there is a lot of money makers to be ported.

So for the DS and PSP... yeah, ports would be awesome, but down the road when support starts to wind down for the next cycle. Unleash ports then to keep owners happy. But spotlighting ports in a hardwares' infancy is simply highlighting the wrong software.

Fine, it's an RPG with strategy elements.

jeez.

All I want (not predict) is Super Puzzle Fighter III Turbo Ultimate for PSP.

Make it happen, Capcom.

Make it happen.

Jejeje...all you have converted this thread in a "PSP 2k5 Desires" thread...More or less I thought the majority of that games were possible on PSP...

For instance, I don't think Square is capable of putting a FF VII/VIII on PSP at that point. Nintendo still plays a strong role on the industry and DS is making them things very easy. I think that perhaps releasing FF III, FF IV, FF V and FF VI for the DS and then switch development with PSP would be a natural reaction for SQUARE, who probably wants to maximize profits with the less efforts.

And the same happens about RE. For now the franchise is strongly associated with Nintendo and all that shit. Besides, the PSP is not as consolidated as the PSX/PS2 used to be. Why should they take that risk ?

If I could choose some games for PSP those would be: Street Fighter Alpha 2 [with improved backgrounds in 3D form], Street Fighter III 2nd Impact and a new JSR.
The last one could made nice usage of the wireless capabilities in order to create some kind of "GANG ATTACK MODE". That would be like the 1P mode just that in that case players would play in gangs. For instance 8P playing in ths mode would split in 2 GANGS. Let's say the GGs and the Love Shockers. The Game Zone would be a city and all would consist into be the first to fill all the graffities.
I think it could be cool.

Thanks to my influences I had the chance to play it yesterday. So far the game is as pretty looking as it was on DC plus the soundtrack continues roking so much !!! They've added new tracks from Hideki Naganuma, Guitar Vader and the major artists that populated the first soundtrack.

Jejeje...Not really.... :(
This was the first picture I uploaded yesterday so I could check how cool a JSR would look on PSP.

Sega should step up with a NiGHTS remake for the PSP.
NiGHTS should go to DS (where the touch interface would work beatifully with it's mechanics). PSP would be better suited to PSO or Burning Rangers imo. :)
