PSP As Music Player

A question for those of you owning a PSP.

Honestly, I'm not too keen on portables, but the idea of being able to use a PSP as a music player interests me. Any comments on how well it functions? I realize this is a music-playing question, so I hope that I don't get nailed for posting in the "wrong" forum; I figured, game machine... game question.

Anyway, the only other issue I'm having is: I haven't seen a way to write music to a Memory Stick with a Mac. I know that Sony hasn't supported Macs will in the past (my brother has a Sony digi-cam that can't connect to a Mac), so this may require me to go grab my old PC.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

If you just want a music player, look elsewhere. But if you're willing to give it a chance as a game machine, too, then it functions pretty well on the music end. Its a little more cumbersome than a dedicated MP3 player, but its nothing too bad. The sound quality is fine, putting MP3s on the mem stick is easy, and it does come with a remote to use while the thing is in your pocket (though it has no digital display). So, overall, its only recommended if you plan on using the other features of the machine, as well. If that's the case, it works just fine. If not, you're better off getting something else or even a cheap-o flash player.

not sure about the Mac issue, but I doubt that's a problem considering iPSP 'n all

The PSP as an MP3 player sounds FUCKING AWESOME, but is very expensive if you use it mainly for that (using it as a game machine and enjoying the music playing capabilities is what I do and I love it). The PSP also has very limited storage capacity (a 512MB MS or higher is pretty much required if you want to use the PSPs other abilities

You also have to treat the PSP like it's made of glass...it functions well as a MP3 player but is fairly inconvienient and expensive if you JUST use the MP3 abilities

Thanks for the input. I'd planned on giving it a go as a game player, too. Lumines is the only game I'm interested in at the moment, but considering the PS1 started with so-so games, I can only assume PSP will get better.
