PSP case recommendations?

DarienA

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
Umm the case that came with the PSP is quite simply cheap and unacceptable. I can't even cover the screen and comfortably slide the thing in the case... so I'm looking for recommendations, what 3rd party case have you guys seen that you really like?

I've seen the $10 metal case but it seems a bit bulky... I'm not looking to protect my PSP from a fall, just to be able to cover and protect that luscious screen...

I am waiting for the Logitech Playgear Pocket Case it looks about the best out there. Comes out mid April for $19.99.

I'm gonna get that Logitech case definitely, but I'm going to pick something else up in the meantime.

I picked up the Intec metal case for $10 at Best Buy. Posted some thoughts on it in the Offical Thread. I actually like it quite a bit. It's a little bulky, but not bad and has plenty of room for the PSP, headphones, and several UMD's. I threw it into my backpack on the way out the door this morning and didn't think twice.

I'm waiting for that case that was shown earlier in the week that actually has a high capacity battery built into and will recharge your PSP twice before needing a recharge itself. That should be perfect for extending battery life for those long flights.

Who makes that one?

Ok let's shift gears for a second, what type of cloth is that included with the PSP, I'm definitely going to want to get a larger one sometime in the near future.

The padding is a bit firm. I am comfortable with it. It also covers the screen and all the buttons and joystick. It's very stiff flipping it up and down. It uses these two screws (best described as PC case screws) and screws into the top of the PSP. I am also waiting on some better products. I don't really believe in Mad Catz, Pelican, and Intec etc.

What I do hope that Sony does is releases a 12 pack of those cleaning cloths that came with the system for people who don't get that screen protector from EXiM.

A 12 pack? I can't see why anyone would need that. These cloths last forever. If it starts to get a little dust build-up, you can just wash it. Been doing it with micro-fiber cloths for years.

Anyways, I'm using the Hori pouch. Probably not what you're looking for, but I like it. Same deal as the included pouch, but much better material and covers the whole thing.

Ah so you can wash these cloths? I didn't know that... thanks.

Yeah, I picked up the Pelican face plate thing, too... it seems to be working fairly nicely. Now I'm wondering - I hear the screen scratches easily - so what's the best way to clean dust and crap off the screen? And also, what's the best way to clean all my finger prints off the D pad and button area :P

I'm very interested in the logitech case. It's reasonablly priced at $19.99 and you can play with the unit in the case.

The Nyko is a great idea but I'm concerned about it's weight and that my hands may get tired holding it. Also I'm not sure how easy it is to play with the PSP in the case, which of course is the whole idea of the case in that it uses the case battery before the PSP. The Nyko is also 3X the cost of the logitech.

Still on the fence but leaning towards the logitech.

I didn't get the impression that the Charging Case was set up for you to play the PSP in the case when I was reading up on it... more that it was a case to hold your PSP and recharge it while you were storing it in there...

EDIT: Weird the downloadable PDF at the nyko site does read like they expect you to play it in case... but that case doesn't seem to give you access to the shoulder buttons from the pictures....

I was also not unaware that you can wash those cloths. Thanks for the tip.

I don't know about the review for that face armor - mine has no problem what so ever. I can play with the system while the cover is flipped up.

I read something about the Face Armor and it said that it was terrible, didn't stay on, ad couldn't be played with it on. Sorry, Don't remember where.

As for a case, I'm thinking about ordering the Aero case.

They are 10 bucks at lik-sang, but the site wasn't loading.
I have this case, my only complaint is the headphones kit doesn't fit inside it very well.

I got Koei's All In Guard case. Faux leather, two pockets, a flap to protect the screen. Seems very roomy. The true test of usability will be when DVDSoon finally decides to ship my PSP. My DS fits very comfortably inside of it :D

Anyone have any experience/recommendation/caveats re: any screen protectors now available at retail?

I'm staying away from Pelican after the DS screen protector debacle. They also had some kind of garish green or red plastic casing that you could use. And some other protector by Intec (?).

I'm going to order a real one online based on some previous threads but in the meantime I'd like some kind of protection so I can use my PSP with reckless abandon.

Do you think DVDSoon will actually ship it?
I pre-ordered it from them but knowing them, we'll receive it in 2010

I went through and returned 3 cases so far and finally settled on this unlikely candidate which I was surprised.

For $15 you get the 'leather' case which has a hard top/bottem for protection, and you can charge right in the case. Has a nice feel and well constructed. You also get 6 UMD cases and a CRAP set of headphones.

I was looking for something to hold me over till the Logitech case too but this one is actually damn nice.

I have the Koei case, and it's very good although bulky like a shaving kit. Not a problem if you're putting it in a backpack or something.

If you're want to find a case that can still fit in a coat pocket, this one probably isn't the one for you.

Yeah, this is what I got. It's really nice, and protects the screen well. My only small gripe is that the felt from the inside will be on the screen when you pull it out, but that can easily be wiped away.

I picked this up for 10 bucks at Best Buy. I'm considering this thing disposable while the big boys bring their stuff to market

I just needed something - anything - to protect the screen while I set it down on the sofa and what not.

It works alright except for the 2 large thumbscrews that attach it to the PSP. I didn't notice those screw holes on top of the PSP before but I'm glad they're there.

Can you fit your headphones and games in the Koei case? I have the same case like MetalAlien and I can't fit the PSP headphones and control pod in it.

I picked this up today, it works great. Thanks for the recommendation!

I just wrap my PSP in A) Cloth B) The packaging it originally comes in and then C) Put it in the soft case.

Until I get a screen protector.

I left my cloth at work! Which one of these cases comes with another micro-fiber cloth?

Damn good deal for $15 ,the replacement analog nub is nice, the case is nice, and the screen cover is nice and solid.

How's the analog stick? One of my friends was telling me on the phone today that he got a package from EB Games with a replacement analog stick; I think this might have been it. He said he preferred it over the original analog nub.

Since the analog nub can be replaced, it's possible we might see more third-party accessory producers offering different analog sticks for sale in the future.

Just bought the case that MetalAlien and gigapower have -- it's Pelican's Headbanger Travel Case. Came in the Pelican Sony PSP Starter Kit ($49.99, get $10 off with coupon in pamphlets at Best Buy's PSP desk)

Love the case -- it has straps to hold the unit inside if you want to use them, 4 pockets for games, and 2 pockets for Memory Sticks. Also has a velcro belt strap and a mountain climber style clip to hang onto bookbags or belt loops. I don't like that it has no room for the headphones, but ahh well. Beats the tar outta the standard foamy case the unit came with. The center flap is softly padded on one side, so the screen won't get scratched. Especially true if you use the included plastic screen guard. The outer shell of the case is rigid--not full-on solid, but close. Whole thing feels strong and sturdy.

The screen guard that comes in the kit is awesome. It doesn't use adhesive to cling, and you can use the plastic mat panel that it's initially stuck onto to gradually put it on the screen without forming any bubbles or whatnot. Easy to lift back up and smooth out too, using the same plastic mat. Guard does seem to make the screen look a little shimmery, but it actually seems to be an effect from overhead light. No distortion in dim or dark rooms. One thing I like, once it's stuck on there, it's amazingly flush.

You guys didn't mention that the kit also comes with car charger, charger brick, and USB cable. That made it worth the cost. The charger brick is kinda gimmicky, but cool. Basically, you can use the PSP's power cord to charge it, and then plug it into the PSP as backup power. So, if 5 hours of standard battery isn't enough, it'll provide 10 more hours for ya.... if you don't mind it dangling off. Yes, TEN HOURS. Or, you can use it to recharge the internal battery twice before recharge.

Kit said it came with 1 cleaning cloth. Mine seemed to have 2 -- one black, one blue. Nice.

Is the nub is removable? ...or does it simply fit over the original one?

I didn't like how the game looked when it was on, kinda fuzzed it out a bit..

I picked this up today at BB for 10 bucks... I looks and works really well, it doesn't get in your way at all...the only thing is, it seems like it's VERY easy to break or that it might wear out just from normal use...but hey it's only 10 bucks.

It makes a tight fit for the case, but it does still fit in...

That's the one I have, I think (check my post above). I like it pretty well and I can actually set my PSP down now without worrying about it. Plus I can put UMD's in without smudging up the screen with fingerprints.

Just makes it a lot easier to handle.

But yeah it does seem pretty flimsy, especially the hinge. Kind of squeaks a lot like it's going to give way any second now.

On a related note I finally saw a PSP commercial and at the end the kid throws his PSP in his backpack raw. All I could think of was 'ooh he's gonna scratch his screen'

Yea Roland, that is the one I picked up...if the hinge was metal it might be a great product...the way it is now, I don't expect it to survive long.. :)

Yeah you can fit several games in there plus headphones. Very roomy inside.

i seriously need a case soon. The pouch is uncomfortably tight and lacks a belt loop, but then again, it's a freebie pouch. i'd like something like my current Clie case, which has a belt loop that can be unhooked for easy removal/placement.

Found this interesting case via Google ("psp case")

Not sure when it'll become available.
