PSP: for 262€ at the 18th of March in Europe?

At present some Freaks offer with eBay more than EUR 1000, around a Japanese PSP too ergattern - nevertheless these people could bite themselves already soon enormously in all who all this. With the British on-line distributing house Amazon.co.uk is possible it since today to book a PlayStation in advance portable one. Therefore the Handheld is to 18.03.2005 at a price of 179.99 Brit Pound in Europe. Converted that EUR 262 would be approximate. We wait for a statement of Sony computer Entertainment Europe.

Hahaha the Babelfish translation is so funny.

Anyway, as the article said, we wait for statement from Sony. I take all these listings with an ultimate grain of salt.

Those with the hardware in hand would probably agree that Sony could get away with that price for a pretty good amount of time.

But those without the hardware will be the ones making the decisions ;)

£180 is an intentionally high, placeholder, pre-order price. Much like Wal-mart having DS for $200 months before release that flustered folks here. I'll pay £130 but I'm not willing to pay any more considering the solo sells for ~£100 in Japan.

Yeah I'll be waiting for an official announcement before deciding on whether to get a preorder for launch or not. Afterall it's not like Sony haven't already suprised everyone with the price before. Besides I'm incredibly suspicious of any Europe date before April 2005. With production as it is I think they'll be stretched to supply the US for a March launch (but I think they will anyway, fiscal year end and all that), so Europe will probably be pushed back.

I believe this news.

Last time I talked with a Sony guy in the know (i.e. frequent meetings with Deering), they were struggling to push the price under 300 eur. Back then the date wasn't fixed, either. Glad they could get it under 300 eur!

My initial reaction when speaking with him was "wtf, I thought it was going to be 149 or 199 max??". He said that the Japan price is not applicable anywhere else in the world. They had been instructed to comment that "The price is for Japan only, and pricing for other markets will be announced at a later point."

Now the genius of this scheme is starting to become clear to me. The huge demand coupled with low quantity has made PSP the most wanted gaming item on the earth, and people are paying 500+ EUR to get one. Come March, 262 Eur will seem like a total bargain.

* bows to Sony strategists *

I think most of you are missing out the reality of the PSP price. 19800yen is only for JUST the PSP. I would say that just about no one buys that package, because the Value Pack is ~26000yen and has so much more. That price isnt all that ridiculous, especially if you were expecting 199 euros for 19800yen package. It's entirely possible Sony will push just the Value Pack price in regions outside Japan.

I think I never got what trolling actually is. I mean, _I_ think that the games announced so far are nothing buy worthy, if I announce this does it make me a troll? _I_ feel the mentioned price is too high and the battery time is pretty low, as probably most ppl do. What's trolling again?

This post isn't really informative. Most of us don't know the current yen value in comparison to their on currency, only the hardcore importers do. So when you compare the 199€ and the 19800yen price I don't think even 25% of us even know what the difference is.

Anything over €199 is more than I will pay. I'll import a JP unit once the market settles if this really ends up being the price.

So wait let me do the math: 200 dollars == 150 euros. So instead of lowering the price they're raising it? OK sony see you and your handheld in a year or so when you've decided that europeans are not freaking morons.

I dont think a direct dollar to euro conversion is fair since US dollar is unusually weak at the moment. IMO...

but yeah, I dont like it either when we euros usually end up paying little bit extra. :\

The price of video game products are more expensive in Europe than in Japan, and more expensive in Japan than in North America.

I personally expect at the very least $215-220 euros. But I think it'll vary around europe.

The PS2 launched for

300 in North America
360 in Japan
403 in Germany
414 in France
450 in the UK

If the PSP DOES launch in North America for 150 dollars, it's going to be at least 200 euro throughout europe, probably closer to 250 euro in most places. The fact that it won't be region specific will probably bring the prices closer together though, since all you would have to do is buy your system from another country to get it for cheaper.

This reminds me when MS tried to sell the Xbox in Europe for more than $600 :lol

and two months later offered some sort of "we are sorry we screwed you, here's a controller and two games" apology.

One note: PS2 launched before the euro era, with euro Sony is having unified prices among european countries.
Expect for UK where they're still using pounds and they pay slightly more than the euro counterpart.

Youll still pay more than north americans do for the PSP.

You guys should be surprised and thankful that SCEE managed to get the PS2 to 149 euros.

That was a true OWNED moment :lol :lol :lol

Man, this generation is coming better but living in Europe does suck when it comes to videogames.

Consider that european prices are always with taxes included.
In Italy where I live for example we have a 20% tax on this kind of products.
That being said I hope PSP will cost between 200 and 249€.

Jesus H. Christ, where does it say this price is official? It's a preorder price, just like some places had the DS available for preorder at $200 BEFORE AN OFFICIAL PRICE WAS ANNOUNCED.

You don't have to be a hardcore importer to know you can google for this info and have it in 2 minutes.

I really don't think anyone in the uk should be buying their psps there.

But this is probably amazon uk not knowing anything about the psp.

The PlayStation 2 is sold for 100 gbp, my thoughts with the psp's price in japan was that SCE was going to match the local ps2 prices, but if this is true maybe that is not the case.

about VAT

Belgium is at 21%
Germany is at 16%
France is at 19.6%
Austria is at 20%
Denmark is at 25%
Netherlands is at 17.5%
Spain is at 16%

Basically UK got screwed

It's going to be at least 120 when VAT is factored in. The likely price is 129 GBP.

Where I live there is a 5% tax, so if the PSP came out for 149.99 I would still only have to pay 157.49, which is the euro equivalent of 118.62 euros =)

That's canadian dollars isn't it? Everytime I hear canadians harping about prices, they always seem to use canadian dollars when everyone else is using american.

I don't think you guys were paying much of a difference at launch than us.

In fact this historical currency table shows that you guys were paying 9 dollars less.
