How much ya wanna bet one of the hardware issues is adding in regional lockout?

Wasn't it reported last year that the PSP did have a regional lockout but that it was disabled for games and would only be used for movies?

Developers could region lock-out their games if they want, but nobody is going to do that. Whatever the hardware revision ends up being, it is definitely not region lock-out.

I wouldn't put it past EA to do something like that, especially on licensed games where they may be contractually required to do so.

This is true, according to Sony at least...

I know it'll likely never happen, but it'd be nice to have a PSP without the ultra-glossy grease attracting plastic sheen and instead a nice, textured matte surface. The glossy case is nice and all if you plan on having your PSP hanging in an art gallery, but it's not exactly all that practical for a device that, by its nature, is meant to be handled all the time.

It's great to hear that Sony is addressing the square button issue. I was a bit irked when Sony initially claimed it to be a moot issue. I forget the exact quote (it's in this month's EGM), something along the lines of "would you criticize a renowned architect for placing the gate of a colosseum in an odd spot?".

gah, i'm hoping this "revision" is something minor, because i'm going to be pissed if the holiday PSPs are all "now with die shrink, and 30% more battery life" or somesuch.

Or how about one with that Clie OLED screen? ;)

Kids would have Kutaragi's head on a platter if they got a 3.8 inch screen instead of the 4.5 incher of the PSP, even if it was higher res and better quality like the VZ-90 screen.

Jesus, they're doing a hardware revision already? I'd be pissed if I bought a launch PSP....

Why? Hardware revisions are very common and generally occur without the general public having any idea that it had occured. With the PSP, there were problems at launch with a few aspects, so why WOULDN'T they try to correct the flaws?

Funny you mention that. The only game IGN tested to confirm no region lock-out was an EA game, NSFUR :P

They'll probably just release a better battery in the future, which will be sold separately, you could just buy that and stick it in the PSP. Problem solved.

exactly...

I remember back to studying industrial-design in school --- we got to monitor numbers and numbers of manufacturing firms from electronics to dog-toys...

hardware revisions are almoast on a weekly basis...

I think the DS is on its 7th revision, if the model #'s are of any clue... but I wouldn't be suprised.

um... if there is a significant design change (new screen for instance, or a small hdd included) with little or no price change this close to launch then i'm sure early adopters would be pissed.

The thing is, though, that there are TWO "square button issues":

1. 0.6% percent of PSPs were having a problem where the button was "sticking"
2. Virtually all PSPs have a problem with the square button being less responsive and feeling "different" than the others due to the placement of the buttons and screen

Number one was fixed. Number two is the one that most people seem to be concerned about, but there's no indication that it was fixed as well. That's different than a defect; they'd have to completely overhaul the inside of the machine for that. The news story said:

According to reports, a manufacturing defect caused some units' square buttons to stick when pressed and not pop back up.

Anyways, the "revision" could also just be that new models are shipping with that more efficient battery that Sony announced last month.

I reckon they'll add a better battery soon. :) Incrementally however. Already owners can buy it seperate. Its so they dont lose much money at launch.

A proper revision wont happen so quick. Let it launch in Europe first and wait abit.

I am sure they will do in long future. :) A metallic like surface alot like the GBASP would be very nice.

Quite frankly, I would prefer a finish that is resistant to my fingerprints.

GT PSP w/ GT4 PS2 game!

This is shown in one of the gamespot videos (The GT4 PSP). I'm not a big GT fan but I as soon as I saw it I knew that I wanted it. That video had alot of different colors.

I don't think this is necessarily true. On my PSP the square button feels and responds identical to the other buttons. If anything, my circle button feels a little weird.

Maybe mine was put together by the dyslexic guy?

Well, that's good to know. Hopefully I'm wrong. It just seemed like it was something that most people were dealing with and getting used to.
