PSP Import games at Fry's

I couldn't believe it but I saw three Japanese PSP Mahjong games selling at Fry's in Burbank yesterday.

One by Koei, one by Konami and another by Marvelous Interactive.

The sign at Fry's said "Japanese PSP Games - warning: text in Japanese".

How bizarre! Import games at Fry's! LOL!

I saw them this past weekend too, near Santa Clara. Too bad the price is too steep for a Mahjong game. I hope they'll have other titles in the future.

Strange, those three mahjong games and Namco Museum are the only imports they seem to be carrying. I wonder what titles they'll carry in the future, and why they decided to carry three different mahjong titles.

That is pretty weird... Is it even legal for them to do this? I can't imagine a whole lot of people wanting to buy a 60$ mahjong title they can't understand either...

What would be illegal about it?

You have to expect this with region-free systems. In fact I think the only reason it doesn't happen with the DS/GBA is that Nintendo would probably crack down exceptionally hard on any retailer who tried. I know it happened in the UK.

Yeah, I noticed that too when I was in there over the weekend.

The other interesting bit of information is that UMD titles are apparently selling incredibly well. The salesguy said that they sell out every shipment within 24 hours of putting them on the shelf, regardless of how crappy the titles.

Fry's ain't your normal large chain electronics retailer. They have a large assortment of porn dvd's! You ain't gonna see that at Wal-Mart or Best Buy. They also sell those large tin cans of Butter Cookies, socks, hydrocortisone, and I swear I saw coils of gardening hoses. THEY SELL EVERYTHING

Well, everything that is of any significance to the average geeky overweight American male anyway.

We don't have Fry's in my area, but Outpost.com does the trick quite nicely. I love that freaking site, especially for stuff like this. I just wish they still offered free overnight shipping like they used to. Nothing quite like deciding you wanted some new, cheap DVDs at 11:50PM and getting them delivered the next morning.

Fry's in San Diego also had Namco Museum.

The one in North County San Diego has nothing. No imports, no UMD movies, and only like 5 games total.

A midget from Fry's? Good luck if you ever want to return it. Mine died on me after just two weeks of light yard work and it was like pulling teeth to get a refund. I paid the restocking fee just because it was starting to smell.

I heard about a bad batch of them being sold, so i opted for the 3 year replacement plan.

Oh right, I had forgotten the system was region-free. I was just thinking about how websites like amazon.co.jp won't ship videogames internationally... But maybe that's just a decision they make on their own for some reason?
