SAN DIEGO, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony today introduced the availability
of a new Memory Stick(R) Entertainment Pack, (MSXM512SEP) designed to add more
fun entertainment options for the PlayStation Portable(TM) gaming device by
providing select Sony content along with the capacity to store it.
The pack bundles a 512MB Memory Stick PRO Duo(TM) media card with a CD of
audio and video clips provided from throughout the portfolio of Sony
entertainment assets.
"Memory Stick media has evolved beyond being just digital film," said Mike
Kahn, senior manager for Memory Stick media at Sony Electronics. "This
entertainment pack is a solution for personalizing and enjoying the
multi-media options offered by the PlayStation Portable system. With our
various divisions, we are able to provide this unique offering of content."
The specially bundled CD features 44 video clips including:

* Sony Picture Television show highlights from Stargate Atlantis and
The Boondocks;
* trailers of yet to be released films from Sony Pictures like The
DaVinci Code;
* snippets of Lords of Dogtown, Kung Fu Hustle and The Amityville Horror;
* new music video clips by such hot Sony BMG Music artists as Usher and
OutKast;
* demos of games for the PlayStation Portable system like Gretzky NHL 06
and NBA 06, and
* additional content from Sony Online, AniPlex, and Connect services.

Content on the Memory Stick Entertainment Pack CD is launched
automatically when loaded into a computer's disk drive. Users can click
through the content offerings and select audio and video clips to download to
a Memory Stick PRO Duo media card for USB transfer and use on the PlayStation
Portable system.
The MSX-M512SEP Memory Stick Entertainment Pack will be available next
month for about $75.

Nothing huge, sadly--just looks like a glorified demo packin with a slightly lower than usual MSRP. :\

I guess that's the first official support for running software off memory stick, but the price is still too high in comparison to what you can get a 512 MB stick for at the moment.

And why not just have all the content already pre-loaded on the stick?

Why would you preload it? It'd get deleted--permanent storage on a pressed CD is a far better option for this deal. :p

Yeah, that IS pretty funny...unless they artifically limit them.

ripoff total.

When I bought a 2GB Sandisk for $150 shipped from J&R (thanks to someone who posted it earlier in the week on these boards), I'm not thrilled with the price. The content is promo material, not value add to anyone on these boards.

It's slightly better than the SRP, but who in their right mind pays SRP these days?

If this has the same MSRP as the Sandisk sticks, then shouldn't you be able to find this for the same price as the Sandisk ones? (i.e. $45 or whatever) Unless this "pack" is sold only directly through Sony.

More than likely they'll just start bundling/shrink-wrapping the demo disk with packages of MSPD's. We'll see, however--but again, the most interesting part is Sony putting out official support for games via memstick.

Is this going to be the first batch of demos released on a memory stick? I would think its basically handing the piracy/mod scene a manual on how to enable memory stick gameplay once they reverse engineer those demos, interesting choice by Sony. Maybe they realize that the PSP just needs to move units and so are willing to get the artificial sales boost that an easily piratable console gets, much like with PS1.

I don't get why people say something is a rip-off just because you can get a comaprable product for a lower price off E-Bay.

Not everyone shops at online auction sites. And that's the entire point of E-Bay. It's like these people never want anything to be released again. Hell, why doesn't Sony just pack up and give up on their media, because someone is going to be selling it cheaper?

Hopefully this paves the way for PSP demos that you grab from an OPM disc in the near future.

Because its an entertainment pack for a portable entertainment unit - I should be able to pick up one of these packs and take advantage of the content right there if I have my PSP with me.

It's not that hard to find 512 MB MS Pro Duos for $50 at online sites other than Ebay. And, for me at least, I've been practically driven to buy Pro Duos online simply because higher capacity sticks seem to be in short supply at most brick and mortar shops I have in my area.
