PSP owners: US launch title recommendations wanted

To those who already have a PSP and a few games, what would you recommend if you could only pick up one title at launch? Obviously, you can't comment on things like Wipeout, TM, Untold Legends, etc, but I'm mainly looking at either Ridge Racers, Metal Gear Acid, or Lumines. Which would you recommend, if you could only pick up one? Replay and value do matter, but I just want the most enjoyable experience in any case. I love the RR series, the MGS series, and Rez, so just tell me which you liked better, and which you would go for.

I'm playing the ass out of Lumines at the moment - i didn't finish ridge, but i'm saving that for the flight home next month. Mingol is also awesome. Ac!d is pretty decent, but i got side tracked with other stuff.

AVOID Rengoku

Man that's tough. RR is spectacular and has enough tracks and cars for a goog amount of replay value. Lumines is awesome and the replay value is near infinite since it's so hard to get every skin. The big difference between the 2 you might want to consider is that if you want to play a quick game once in a while, RR offers that. With Lumines you can fool around in single player for a quick burst session, but if you're playing the challenge mode you will be sitting for upwards of 2 hours once you get good at it. Shit man, just sell a kidney and get both, they really are that good.

I'm probably in the minority when I say I'm picking one up for the music player and movies built in. I like the PSP for what the system can do and none of the games really interest me that much. Spiderman 2 is just icing on the cake.

I'm one of those people who represents the low-tie ratios. When I bought my DS, I bought *just* the DS. The Metroid demo was the only game I wanted to play.

If Twisted Metal turns out to be solid, I might grab it.

Our survey rocked more. 50% of those who did not own a PSP at the time of the survey plans to get one in the next 12 months. Keep in mind, this took place before the US launch info, and the announcement of online capabilities.

What poster were you referring to? This info has no relevance to this thread.

Don't even think twice about picking up Lumines. This game has legs, only game I own and I have no incling to get another game. I'll pick up more titles when the PSP launches in the US, but as it is, Lumines is MORE than enough to satisfy by itself.

back to the topic

Games i'm interested are:

Ridge Racer
Untold Legends
Metal Gear Acid
Wipeout Pure
Twisted Metal Head On
Lumines
Mercury

My budget only allow for three games max :(

I wonder when will the reviews come out? I need some other opinions.

Also, between Ridge Racer, TM, Wipeout, which one would you get? RR is good and all, but Wipeout looks sexy too...

I can only speak for the games I've played.

RR is great. A very balanced and playable racer and it really shows off the PSP.

Lumines is a reaction-over-brains puzzle game with great music where it can take well over an hour to finish a game as you get better at it. Worth 50 bucks? um.... maybe.

MGA is a cool idea in concept, but in execution it is a slow slog at many parts. Doesn't really have any of its gameplay in common with the console series to tell you the truth. If you're expecting an action game anything like the previous games, you're going to be disappointed.

Whaaa? Didn't Ubi confirm all the music and skins are in? I saw the thread about this, but what is different? I guess since the import basically costs the same amount, I'll get the Japanese version.

lumines is the best puzzle game since tetris. it's great for short bursts, and is the quitessential "portable" game.

Ridge Racer is the best in the series so far, so if you have any love for R4, you need to pick this up.

Lumines, Lumines, LUMINES! Anyone with a PSP should get Lumines or they should stop playing videogames FOREVER. Ridge Racers is good, but Lumines is the greatest puzzle game IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!

Darkstalkers Chronicles: The Chaos Tower
Minna no Golf
Ridge Racers
Lumines
*Twisted Metal: Head On
*Wipeout
*MLB

For me I'm planning to buy:

#1 Lumines
#2 Metal Gear Ac!d
#3 Wipeout Pure
#4 Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower

Those are the games I'm planning to pick up at Launch date (I've got a shit load of cash waiting to be spent!)

I've had my PSP since Christmas, I would recommend the following titles:

Ridge Racer
Everybody's Golf
Lumines
Ape Escape Party

They are all very good titles.

I got Ridge Racers and Lumines, and would recommend both games, they are really good. But if I have to choose one I would say Lumines, it's the best damn puzzlegame I ever played.

Dumbed down? Isn't the US version the same only with MORE features? Where's the dumbing down?

Darkstalkers and Ridge Racer are now priced at $39.99.

Namco and Capcom have wisened up. I hope other 3rd parties start to wise up and start to price games accordingly at $39.99. UBI, I'm looking at you with Lumines.

24 launch games @ 50 bucks each = disaster

Quick bump for a meta question:

I've just been sort of feeling out specific release dates for games, and the only relevant sites I can access from work are Outpost.com and Bestbuy.com. What I'm noticing is that neither has Lumines listed.

Is it on Ubisoft to update the retailers, or is the game getting pushed?

Also, say you were choosing between Ridge Racers and Wipeout Pure. Which one would you pick? (Yes, I know I may as well be asking if you'd like to have sex with two chicks at the same time every day for the rest of your life, or have $2 billion.)

The Launch Line-up is probably the best over all that I've ever seen. Lots of choices and lots of different types of games. (puzzle, sports, racing, etc.) I'm probably going to pick up three games at launch, but I'm having a hard time choosing which ones to get. Twisted Metal and WipeOut both look like they'll be a blast to play. NBA and NFL Street look like great fun as well, and I haven't played them on a console yet. I'm a big fan of golf games, so Tiger Woods could easily make my list, but Hot Shots Golf isn't going to make launch, at least the last time I looked. Untold Legends has me intrigued as well. It's the only thing close to an RPG for launch, but the random level generator has me a little worried. I may wait for reviews on that one. Needless to say, there should be something for everyone at PSP launch.

If the Ape Escape game ends up being a platformer, I'll be getting that. If it's Piposaru Academia, however, I'm not. Metal Gear Acid, Lumines, Ridge Racers, and Darkstalkers are on my list as well. And if Wipeout Pure doesn't suck complete ass like Fusion, I'll have to pick it up.

Having said that, I think Ridge Racers is the surest bet. I don't necessarily think Lumines is worth $50, but I'm buying it because I worry about low print runs like a moron. MGA is a card game, Ape Escape is a traditional platformers, and Darkstalkers is a fighter. I like the series, so it's all right for me, but, again, $50 per game is a lot.
