PSP - Ridge Racers Videos + PSP stuff

Obviously more for those who haven't been able to check out PSP yet. These vids have no shake, decent, large, bright quality 60fps video and direct feed audio. Includes the awesome opening sequence with Reiko, and many gameplay vids with the superb Ridge music. Also, includes lengthy 10-page PSP review, just in case you can't get enough.

Personally, Ridge Racers is utterly awesome but I am sure things will only get better for this machine of love and justice.

Please note that the article draws no attention to these new vids (as the review has yet to be posted) therefore making them a semi GAF exclusive! ;-) So don't fuck with me, or I'll make sure there's no more Erica in OT.

People in OT seem to be going nuts over her this last month or two. She married my pal 'Folder' on Dec 30. Thought it might be a good threat. :) Obv not

I was wondering where Folder went. I forgot he went to get married!

Good man, good man...

Indeed. He's back tomorrow I think. It's gonna be weird having your buddy being married. Anyway this has gone a bit, er, OT ;-)

I appreciate all the work that went in on encoding all them videos, but why oh why did you encode them @ 640x360?!? If I want to see them big, I'd have them run @ 200% after I downloaded them. Now even @ 100%, you have this 1.5x interpolation on the videos that looks horrid! ARRRGGGHHH!

Anyways, the game looks fantastic, and I love all the inclusion of all the original music! Most of the ones listed as unknown is from RR4 soundtrack, which I have and absouletly love. Even ripped it into my XBox so that I don't have to listen to that horrible soundtrack that came with Rallisport 2 while I play. :D

Yeah, your videos are pretty terrible. You should work at adjusting the codec settings.

Ridge Racers almost makes me want to buy a PSP. But it's really nothing new so I don't see the point. And the boosts tick me off.

Speaking of folder, where's the RE4 for Xbox announcement?

All they have to do is encode the videos @ 100% of the source's native resolution. They would have looks great.

Source is likely a DV cam, resolution 640x480. crop out the top and bottom as its not showing anything (widescreen PSP) and you get 640x320 (or thereabouts)

480x272 is a big video file. If that's not big enough for you, you can always set the player to play @ 200%.

The point is, 480x272 file played @200% zoom will look better than 480x272 source encoded @ 640x360 @100%. And it would be a smaller file to host. Win win.

Hardly "direct feed", ya? ;)

I swear, some of your are blind. Or illiterate. Or both.

Links working now. Good speed. :D

Awesome vids...really can't see what people are whining about - apart from the driving and that most of 'em are third person - Ridge Racer has always sucked in third person view - it's in-car / cockpit or nothing with a RR title.

This game is smokin' - anyone got a video of DS RR for comparision (seen pics but ain't seen it in action yet).

"I don't think I've ever had a Kikizo movie download. And I'm in the UK. Sort it out Doree!"

Only ever hear this from very few. All can suggest is disconnect, reconnect to change IP. Otherwise, fucked. Soz.

Really don't get this. Why not encode at that size/rez? No lossyness. More detail. No enlargement of source video. What is the problem with the size here?!

"How are they able to get direct feed videos?"

They aren't. Just good video (so I thought) with no shake and direct audio.

"Yeah, your videos are pretty terrible. You should work at adjusting the codec settings."

No. Maybe. Most can play these perfectly, based on feedback. The first person to suggest better codec encoding, it shall be welcomed. Has not happened. Good PC + ideally WMP10 + fuck knows some kind of magic = perfect result with the 60fps vids on kkz. Have tried really hard but don't understand conflicts with this, for the minority, with playback problem.

"All they have to do is encode the videos @ 100% of the source's native resolution. They would have looks great."

No, this is not the issue here and not related, surely??

... Zoom has nothing to do with playback...

"I swear, some of your are blind. Or illiterate. Or both."

?

"anyone got a video of DS RR for comparision"

LOL

"Awesome vids...really can't see what people are whining about "

Naturally, I agree with this. What is the problem?

Source = DV widescreen mode, df audio
Editing = DV widescreen, nothing altered
Encoding = fair size rez nothing changed in ratio, 60fps to keep motion in WMV (only way identified to work since WMV, far as we can tell, offers progressive = 60).

All I can suggest to anyone with playback problems is the same to anyone playing any Kikizo vids that are encoded at WMV 60fps; try WMP10 and a well specced PC. Not to insult those who are already doing these things. I am as keen to learn about where any probs may lie as any anyone - but don't get the problem here.

Out of interest, those with playback issues, please try playing the DF Tekken 5 vids on the site; if they work well then these should, if not, well WTF, there is more to learn here.

I guess it was my fault for assuming you had a method to capture the video directly at the native res. I forgot to get hooked on phonics. I didn't realise you were using a DV cam to capture this. So already interpolation occurs during the capture process and you can't avoid it.

I just HATE pixel interpolation, and just wished I can get videos off the damn thing at the native res via direct feed. It would look just as pretty as staring at the screen itself.

"I didn't realise you were using a DV cam to capture this."

I will take it as a compliment then; hey the could be mistaken for DF video ;-)

"I was just pointing out that you promised direct feed audio, not video. Nothing against you."

Coolio

"just wished I can get videos off the damn thing at the native res via direct feed."

I think the entire games media biz is workin on SCEI for this, ourselves included. It is possible; TGS PSPs were hooked up to live LCD monitors. Presumably via USB. (?) We need the PSPwideBoy. Matter of time.

Not that it needs repeating, but, damn, the PSP is one mighty sexy piece of gaming hardware.

Why, oh why, must Play Asia take so long to fill my order...

I played a bit of Ridge Racers and it does seem cool. I just wish that I wasn't being forced to buy it, since there are people around here I can borrow it from. Oh well.

I hope the us release is in March. That way I can just wait the 3 months. If it's any later, I'm going to import. RR's just looks too good.
