I usually just switch off my PSP in game. Does anybody know it it sucks any noticeable power?

I am pretty sure in most cases it will suck less battery than loading the game again (time and UMD access).

My theory is it doesnt need much power at all, because the PSP goes into sleep mode when the battery is empty.

Depends on the game for some reason, and even then different people get different results.
Wipeout pure seems to suck the most power for me.

I find it's using a percent or two of the battery per hour in sleep. If you left it in sleep for a couple days, it'd be dead. When it automatically goes to sleep because the battery is drained, it's not going to last hours and hours before you start getting it recharged.

Well, maybe my PSP is special, mine seems to use almost zero power. It's been sat next to me on my desk at work for two weeks, I've played it once for 5 minutes. Charge level now is 51%, 2 weeks ago it was pretty much the same level, maybe about 55%. So, I'm thoroughly impressed with the standby battery consumption.

I think it's pretty efficient. Over the course of a 5 hour Halo 2 party I had my PSP on sleep with MGA. I'd briefly play while everyone else bitched about what map/game to play next. Only used 5% battery during that time.
