PSP system software ver 1.5 update (for Jap PSP)

Are you guys doing the PSP WiFi Network Update or are you passing through the PC transferring manually the file to the Memory Stick inside the PSP ?

Me too. But you can download the update from the official playstation.jp website and then transfer it onto the mem stick if you don't have a wifi access.

Used my new wireless setup to nab the download and it worked great. Installation was easy and smooth, and now my PSP feels complete even though the update did practically NOTHING! :lol

Hot shit, I want to install this tonight.

BTW, I've already tried Spider-Man 2 on my Jpn. PSP... don't work.
WFT? Can anyone else confirm, that Spider-Man 2 isn´t working on a Jap. PSP? And what about after installing the update?

yeah, when going through lots of jpegs (manga viewing) at some point the zoom function freezes somehow (image stays out of focus) and you have to get back to the main screen and then back again to the image viewer.

Well, one of the first things I done was dump a load of JPEGS in to check out if the viewing had been improved in any way, I didn't experience anything like that.

So? Is the jpeg bug still there or not?
We'll have a better idea when we can start viewing comics/manga in the proper order again. I haven't noticed it thus far, but then again, I haven't been able to sit down and read a few issues.

I NEED YOUR HELP testing PSPhoto 1.01.

We THINK that the "randomization" bug appears ONLY after the conversion of .CBR and .CBZ files -- NOT if PSPhoto converts uncompressed ordered images in a directory. Could you guys also try converting uncompressed stuff in folders and then stuff in ZIPs and RARs and see if there is a difference.

I think you're right, caue I did a conversion from a zip and there's no probs.

So you guys can confirm that the new PSPhoto works with the 1.50 firmware update?

Is it safe for me to upgrade now? :)

Just for fun, I connected my new US unit to my WiFi network and we have no updates to install.

Something odd.

Some of my comics scroll nice and fast, some of them are choppy and sluggish. I can't figure out why, exactly, so if you guys have a minute, I'd appreciate it. Maybe someone could throw them on their PSP to ensure it's not limited to me?

Here's the one that goes fast (for me) - http://www.zombieculture.com/img/pspfast.jpg

And the sluggish one - http://www.zombieculture.com/img/pspslow.jpg

Oddly enough, the bigger one is the one that loads faster. Maybe it has something to do with the way it's encoded?

edit: Nevermind, they'll both scroll fine. Check below and see if you can figure out why one would scroll slower if it was in a folder with 20 other files while the speed of the other one remains unaffected.

Exact same thing happens to me with different comics -- they all used PSPhoto though.

I don't know. I thought there was something about the different versions of the image converter, but the tests I'm running aren't showing anything.

Alright, I'm starting to fear for my sanity. I think I've been messing around with this for at least an hour. After playing with various versions of PSPhoto and such, here's the only thing I can reproduce over and over again.

If there's a folder of images that scroll slowly, moving one of those images to the main PSP\PHOTO directory will temporarily resolve the problem.

It's weird, because not all of my folders have images that scroll slowly, and I can't figure out what causes it. Hopefully this provides someone with a clue.

edit: If you take a file from a folder of images that smoothly scroll and stick it in a folder of images that don't, it will still retain the quick scroll.

In case you're looking to do some experiments of your own..

http://www.zombieculture.com/img/pspfast.jpg <- scrolls nice and fast, regardless of placement.

http://www.zombieculture.com/img/pspslow.jpg <- performance depends on placement of file.

Downloaded the demo of iPSP. Every image that produces is quick-scrolling.

The problems? No .CBR/.CBZ support, converted files are automatically placed on the PSP, conversion take a bit of time. Image quality is much poorer than PSPhoto, even though iPSP's files are substantially larger.

Still trying to find the best settings, but fast scrolling images, every time. Wish I could figure this out.

edit: So far the best solution for fast scrolling/good image quality has been to run everything through PSPhoto 1.01, then run the files through iPSP with iPSP's image quality set at about 40%, that seems to keep the file size close to the original.

Feel free to play around with iPSP's settings, but be warned. Putting the slider at the far end of Better Quality transformed 3MB into 15MB 0.o

I've downloaded the update, and it sits on the mem stick.

But after reading all this shit, I sure am glad I haven't upgraded my firmware yet!

Manga = #1 reason I use PSP outside of gaming.

Hmm. I wish you could assign your own wallpapers.
We can, I just wish it would stay there permanently instead of just temporarly :/
I'm sitting out for this update.

I wish I had sat out on this update :/

Just figured out that iPSP puts the comics out of order. And running those images through PSPhoto results in the same sluggish performance. Ughhhh.

The PSP's background color rotates between 12 options, 1 for each month.

Pity, I wish I could lock it to PS2 Blue. Blah.

Since this is kinda networking related, does anyone know if the PSP can or will support 128-bit WEP or even WPA encryption at some point?

does the update not work for some people? i just tried playing a movie and then entering sleep mode. when i turned the switch again, the movie was gone. this also happens with the audio. let me know if anyone has had similar results. thanks
