PSTWO DVD player quality?

So is there an improvement? I'm thinking at least it should be just as good (or bad...) as the old PS2 but I'd like to make sure. Also, whoever has a PSTWO please feel free to post about your experience with the PSTWO in general. :-)

Thanks in advance for any help. XD

Quality is fine, and it does 480p in DVD playback now, so that's a plus.

Kind of an unrelated question, but what's that little stop thing doing there when the lid cover is open? It's kind of in the upper right corner near the laser...

My friend bought it and we watched several movies on it looks like the same picture quality as my launch ps2. The new pstwo does support progressive scan movie playback so thats a plus.

Also I heard it has better movie DVD compatibility than the old ps2's.

Is the volume level still really low?

There's a volume level option in the set-up menus, but I run it through optical anyway so that doesn't affect me and I've never had issues with the sound in either case.

Same as the old PS2 (minus the pro scan support): servicable, but not anything an average standalone player couldn't do.

I agree, but average in this case should be clarified as having the following attributes:

1) Progressive Scan
2) Component Out
3) Optical Out
4) Works out of the box (no extras needed)
5) Pretty darn good quality, especially with the color rendering.

Most of the bargain players have simple RCA jacks and look like poop.

There is? Had no idea... I just noticed one time that when I popped a movie out of the PS2 in to my regular DVD player with the same volume setting on the equipment the PS2 played much softer....

Is the volume setting that you adust in the setup menu a permanent setting change or does it have to be redone each time you put a DVD movie in?

Parameter setting as far as I remember that is probably stored in the system config file on your memory card.

As I said though, the option is greyed out if you have it set to use the optical output (at least it is in mine, and I don't remember if the PS2 outputs sound out of the optical and regular RCA jacks simultaneously, so not having the option available if optical is enabled could be a pain if you want to use RCA out at some time in the future), but there shouldn't be any difference in the sound-level output using the optical out anyway.

you have to press reset or something like that to save the settings, its in the manual somewhere
